~*~The After-Twilight Bookclub!!!~*~

Lowie I couldn't agree more! We seem to have the same taste in books;)
I am going through withdrawels, I need to be back in J R Ward's world!

I finished Shiver and I loved it! I just got a few samples on my Ipad and will give Tithe a try next. Anyone read that yet? It looks interesting.

I have to say I am loving my Ipad! There is a bookstore on it where I can purchase books and read right from my Ipad. At first I thought it would bother my eyes because I wear glasses, but it doesn't! I can adjust the brightness, font and text size, it's great! Only downside is there isn't a big selection. But, it also has an app for the kindle. So I can shop at the kindle store and get any books and it automatically downloads them to my Ipad! So cool!

i need recommendations for my son. he's looking for greek mythology books. he's nine years old and has read the lightning thief books already. he wants them to have 'real' facts. any ideas?

I saw this series on Goodreads and I couldn't help thinking about you and your DS. They're obviously not "real fact" based but they look like a hoot! There are at least 8 in the series:

[close] What a myth-o-maniac! Zeus's version of the myths is completely wrong. That story about Zeus single-handedly overthrowing Cronus, the big bad leader of the Titans, and becoming Ruler of the Universe? Baloney! He is officially Ruler of the Universe, but that's only because he cheated at cards. It's time to set the record straight. For the first time ever, Hades, King of the Underworld, reveals the true story behind the myths.

thanks for the rec, Mel.. I did a quick search on amazon and ebay and these books are CRAZY expensive!! Now i'll be on a quest to find them cheap.. I don't think our library has them but i'm going to check that out too. Like his mother, my son loves to OWN books. he doesn't want to borrow them.

I couldn't take it anymore! I ordered "Lover Mine" and "Dead in the Family" from amazon. Kindle's not getting them right now, but they were only $9.99 for hardback. Figured the kindle price wouldn't be much cheaper! Gotta read LM first!!

UGH!!! I'm about to break down and buy the books too. I would really rather have downloaded it on my Kindle though:mad:

We had 6 of the titles at our library. We can also do interlibrary loans where-in they will start searching the next counties, then the next STATES for the book and have it delivered to you. Love it.

EDIT: if you search on goodreads for the title and you go under the title you can see that they have it linked to amazon and for this title it was also a "Swap" choice: http://www.goodreads.com/swap/book/565137 maybe that's a good option for you? :)

thanks again! our library has the first book so I put a hold on it. If he likes it i'll go on a mission for the rest.

Finished Tithe and I agree with you. I was disappointed with it.

Now I am trying Intertwined by Gena Showalter. I am only 2 chapters into it and so far it's interesting.

A little while back I was mentioning an author that I had forgotten about who is really, REALLY, REALLY funny (IMO) she writes a series of books called The Idiot Girl's Guide to....and they are based on her real life. She's boozy and self effacing and she is absolutely hysterical. I often have to grab my asthma inhaler just to get through a page or two because I am laughing so hard. I highly recommend them: http://www.idiotgirls.com/books.html

This last weekend for Mother's Day my DH took me to see her for a book signing at Powell's books. It was so cool! Anyway, I have pics... and food porn... and ....A GREAT BIG

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
to all of your wonderful, wonderful moms out there. :goodvibes

I was so happy that in our very brief chat I was able to make her laugh. Felt good.. I was so proud of myself!

Afterwards my DH took me out for dinner at the Deshutes Brewery a few blocks away and I ordered the cheese plate appetizer..

The beer cheese was YUMMY!

The piece de resistance, however, was the dessert. Do not think me odd when I tell you that this was one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted. Eating this made me feel like I was MUCH richer than I am. Fine living, baby.. fine living.

Warm Flourless Chocolate Cake with House Made BASIL Ice Cream
2010-05-07MothersDayDatenight1-1.jpg

Yes, you heard me right.. basil ice cream .. and it was fantabulous. I went to this place because I had had their house made cardemom ice cream and it was the best ice cream I had ever eaten. They didn't have it this time and I'm glad cause it gave me the opportunity to branch out and this was a HUGE HIT.

Anyway, happy reading and I hope you had a truely memorable day.

Sounds fun Mel, happy mothers day to you too! although i have to say that basil ice cream just doesn't do it for me ;)

I'll check out those books. I need some cruise reading and funny stuff seems to be the way to go. i wouldn't want to be crying on deck while having a fruity drink.

Don't knock it till you try it! :thumbsup2

Oh, and, I'm totally jealous that you're going on a cruise :D

Oh yea, AND... I can't vouch for the new book she has out that you see in my hands as I have not read it and it is only her second attempt at fiction (my DMIL said the first attempt was good though and that gives me hope). The ones I read were the idiot girl series which are biographical. And I will warn you that she has a mouth on her. I haven't read all of the idiot girl books but the one that stick out to me is the first one I read: Confessions of a fat bride.

Oh I cannot seem to get away from these covers and the promise of a possible good story. This one started out interesting but ended up being another run of the mill teen fairy (insert wolf, vampire, or any other paranomral creature) story which took the entire book to build up to a semi exciting finale.

This book was not as horrible as http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3975774.Evermore_The_Immortals_1_.

It was very similar to the boringness of http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5056084.Wings_Wings_1_ but it had a snappier finale.

I preferred the romance build up in http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6068551.Shiver_The_Wolves_of_Mercy_Falls_1_ over this book.

I think http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/305234.Wicked_Lovely may have been slightly more exciting but that isn't saying much.

I know.. I know... I need to get out of this rut.

I think I'm going to try http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6304335.Beautiful_Creatures_Caster_Chronicles_1_and if that sucks then I'm going to wait a long time before I try another one of these little diddy's again. (less)

I loved the book Shiver. The second book (Linger) is to be released on July 20th.

I tried the first book and I couldn't get through it... the names alone were tough to swallow (ha, swallow).. but ok... I promise I'll try it again after Beautiful Creatures which just came in at the library for me.

I've realized I don't like tough, independant, street wise types who kick butt ...at least not the female ones. I didn't like these books:

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11918.Bitten

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/71811.Moon_Called

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6006518-strange-angels

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2261459.Happy_Hour_of_the_Damned

Nor the obvious bodice ripping nature of this doozy:

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/84136

This one was decent but ONE TIME. I did not want to read the other FIFTEEN in the series:

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/743599.Beyond_the_Highland_Mist

So I dunno... I have a track record with not liking these types of books. Tell me... is BDB is different?

These are all books I didn't like. I'm afraid BDB are just the same

no comparison, just try it again. the names grow on you ;)

Low-bob!

I was at the bookstore today and saw this: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7090447-the-red-pyramid

It's an Egyptian Percy Jackson...Looks really fun!

Also, was looking at Goodreads and noted another Rick Riordan book that I don't think I knew about:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4837112-percy-jackson-and-the-sword-of-hades

Mr. Riordan also does the intro for this book which also looks fun:
