The adventures of Tiggerdad (A collection of camping locations, mishaps, reviews, alterations, food, and whatever else I can find)

Moved onto 249 before going for lunch.

Still on lake. I set up the canopy with netting to try and keep the yellow flies under control. After lunch we went over to Fort Morgan. Haven't been there since 2014. I'm a history nerd, so...

Have a great time. I was just saying at work today that this will be the first year in 5 or 6 that we won't be in Gulf Shores.
Hopefully Stacey can stay clear of the yellow flies.

At Fishermen’s Memorial State Park, Rhode Island for Memorial Day Weekend. Site 171. Cool evenings, but sunny/dry for the weekend. Low 70’s daytime. Looking forward to lobster rolls at Aunt Carrie’s today!IMG_8853.jpegIMG_8849.jpeg

Dinner last night was the boil. No pics of done product as my bunch was in full mutiny starvation and looked like zombie movie scene.

In case you think I'm losing my edge:

Fixing to roll down to beach. So far NO yellow flies, not a single one spotted.

I dunno. That squirrel looks like he's showing you his back and checking out some OTHER cook's dinner. :confused3 Maybe THEY were having steak and chicken. 👨‍🍳

No yellow flies. What happened?

Don't know
Don't care

As long as we aren't seeing them it's fine with us. Especially DW.
Sorry @tiggerdad, I just realized I posted my little journey on your thread…🤪… guess I got excited about posting “I’m out and about, too” and didn’t think about where it was going…

Brother, anytime!

What you couldn't see was folks across way loading up in truck to leave. Likely came back to find certain items "mysteriously" missing from pantry. They have Auburn decorations so there will be no pity from me.

Down at beach for several hours today. The beach across from campground entrance not crowded as usual and the reason why we only use it.

Girls wanted to fly kites.

State police were kind enough to check on me.

Back at site. Intend to cook potatoes and steaks this evening as we aren't interested in fighting the memorial day crowd at restaurants.

Great pictures! So glad y'all are out camping again. Not sure if you saw where I have sold my Toy Hauler & now living in a 2 bedroom duplex in Bastrop. Love it! I do miss the camping trip, but not living in it.

Glad to hear from you mam. I was not aware but sounds like you are doing well. Always thinking about you. When we were on site 12 the first day I was looking over at Eds usual site 4 and site 3 where you and Arnold were at.

This evening myself and youngest DD rode bikes

Spotted wildlife as usual.

Lefty was also out at her usual place.

Getting about dinner time

As promised this morning was riding. Trails here are perfect for riding. Level and paved with several nice wooden bridges.

Along these trails are many benches and swings to rest. Each a dedicated or sponsored place. Some are simple benches.

Others are open swings

Some of the nicer ones are covered.

Still riding some more later. Girls are wanting to head to pool. We starting to pack up. Headed out in the morning if we don't actually head out tonight to beat the crowds heading north.

For the first time I rode around Shelby Lake which is the larger of the lakes at GSP. Several walkways out into the lake.

Looking over at Gulf Shores

Looking at campground, the blue water tower is the entrance.

Lower end of Shelby the bike lane is right up against roadway.
20230528_132930.jpg

Another walkway over the lake, you can see the water tower better. Good cool breeze.

For dinner we went early to Woodside Restaurant which is in GSP. First time I've eaten there. It is now mainly things like sandwiches and appetizer type food. They have outdoor live bands, this evening show was just warming up. It was way early so no crowd there yet.
20230528_154958.jpg

DDs got bacon burger and chips.
20230528_155126.jpg

DW got club
20230528_155231.jpg

I had grilled chicken. Will say, very good sandwiches indeed. Each plate about $14 plus drinks so about $80 for us total but not having to cook and no crowds was worth it. I'd say if I'm in mood for sandwich or burger I'll go back. Good stop off if your out biking.

We ended up heading on home before the mass exodus tomorrow. Smooth trip back for sure.

Got bigger plans come July. I'll post more on this later.

Yes, I think about our first trip meeting everyone & how much fun we had. Our last trip was in 2019 @ "The Fort". We stayed over 3 weeks, & had a blast. I sure do miss my Grumpy Aggie! Your DD girls are getting so grown up. I hope the flies are still staying away from DW. Can't wait to read more of y'all fun trips.
