The ABC's of Trip Planning, Pt 1- K is for Keeping Things Kooky- Drinks V-Z; pg. 197 + New Link

One of my first jobs was as a line cook.
When we were slammed, wait staff would always come to my section because they knew I'd be fast and still take care to turn out good looking and tasting meals. When it wasn't busy, I'd make doubly sure that the meals were perfect.

I realize this is not the norm.

No, sadly, laziness is the modus operandi now. My daughter is a shift manager at DQ and says it's about as hard to find a quality employee as it is for me to get to Disney more than once every 5 years.

I think it's because she's getting more exposure to it at school as well as from a friend who's driven her a couple of places and listens to it.

Sounds like she has some pretty decent friends!

I'm gonna go with... after?

Off to read the update(s).

I have no idea what this is even in reference to anymore. Much like you probably don't even remember what those updates you refer to were about. ;)

It was only yesterday that it was a year (or more!) away.

I know. And now I'm starting to freak out a bit about my FiPs and other little details.

Okay.... go.

I'm a gettin'; I'm a gettin'.

Please.... do you have to mention price and pool in the same sentence???

:headache:

Oopsies. Sorry. Soooo, whatever happened on that front. Did you have t pony up the cash?

Actually there's usually one person who thinks it's funny.
The cretin, of course.
No one else.

I wonder if they think it's funny to be escorted out as well. I've seen it happen.

And C) it's cheap Chinese crap?

Well, yeah. There is that too.

Can't speak to Ellen, having never been on it, but....

I'm planning on skipping it this time around, but may be forced to if a Nap Emergency happens.

Nah. I'm enjoying the banter too much.

You stand alone I'm afraid.

Leprechauns!

Have you ever seen Darby O'Gill and the Little People? Scared the crap out of me when I was little!

Did know that if it's in Scotland, it's scotch and if it's in the US, it's bourbon.

Yes, I did. I acturally researched that a little on my last trip to Kentuckyland- home of the ubiquitous home still. A good movie, not so much for quality or entertaining, that is good for getting a solid education on that culture is Thunder Road with Robert Mitchum. Then again, I know you don't do movies much. Nor do I except when I visit my folks in Bowling Green.

Mine is: Try not to look stupid.

Now, I think that my motto and your motto would pair up nicely. You don't look stupid if you pay a bit more for better liquor and just drink less of it.

Sounds... promising.
I don't want to offer congrats until it's a sure thing.

Wise. I do not have a solid offer yet... but more on this later after Alison's comments.

Wait.... I thought you hated camping.

I like the fires, and sitting on camp chairs, and reading, and hiking, and photography. I DON'T like the gross lack of sleeping, the cold, the (non) sleeping in sleeping bags, and doing dishes in water I have to haul. And the fact that it's not Disney.

Work your little butt off and rock that puppy.

Funny, you should mention this. Commentary on why when I post the photos from the trip, but let's just say for now. I"m joining a gym today.

I tend to start in the middle... then back up and start at the beginning after failing miserably.

That sounds horribly discombobulated!

Hmmm... I'd like to try it, but not sure if I'd like it.
This one's a toss up for me.
(Or toss down as the case may be.)

The gingerale is NOT your typical Schweppes. Generally it's made with a more authentic, spicy version of the ginger beer which can be a bit surprising for the uninitiated.

Okay! Okay! Sheesh... get your souvie mug.

Fine. I will. And 3 others to boot of differing design.

Now this one. Yes! I'd love to try that!

I'm sure you would! There are 3 on my list. Wanna guess which ones?

Life is too short for mediocre liquor

Do I win a prize or something?

Maybe.

Okay then.... 230

Shouldn't you wait until you see how many points are available? Like just before I leave?

Q! It's going to be Q!

Close. :crutches:

But jail is kind of like a form of camping too, isn't it?

Let's see? Nope. I still have to cook. The beds and bedding are more comfortable in jail. No one forces me to hike straight uphill for an hour. The only pro to camping is our nightly tradition of happy hour with gourmet cheeses and wine.

Tough. I've done a couple and they're stressful.
The pressure to get those fleeting moments...
And if you don't.... oy!

Exactly why I will probably never try my hand at that.

Nice. Filter or post processing?

Post processing. I have a short list of equipment purchases that are eminent- a filter, a wide angle lens, and possible a macro lens.

Nice one. Love the foreground to background.

Thanks! That purple sky was perfect against those white chairs!

Nice family shot! :)

I was torqued at my family who missed the memo to stay in their nice clothes. Now I look like a dweeb in wedding clothes and all of them in sweats and flannel. :rolleyes2

Am I gushing?
Yeah... I'm gushing.

Feel free.

Seriously, you've got a really good eye, Liesa.

Thanks, Ponzi. Need to work on the hardware/technical side of things now.

Sounds like a fun and new twist to drinking around the world!
Lovely wedding photos, I love country weddings.

I'm actually wondering if I can make it all the way to 'Z'. 10 days; 26 drinks. Gonna be a push...

Thanks! It was truly a beautiful wedding at the bride's family's home.

OK That's better!

;)

Which is why I usually order wine (or pack it in my suitcase) from a delivery service to have some in the room!

I'm probably going to go with mini bottles of flavored vodkas that are plastic. Perfect for putting into lemonade slushies or Coke.

Hmmmm...that sounds....interesting, but I'm not a big Whisky drinker.

Funny. I looked up a Gimlet? that one you get a lot. Nope. You can have your gin; I'll keep my whisky.

I did not know that!

Now, you too, can look like a bona fide booze snob. LOL!

Well, I'm glad you were prepared!

Me too! Now I have to prep for the surgical nursing one.

Well have some fun!

Thanks! We did! Pix coming...

How about a Caipirinha from Brazil?

:goes to look this up:

I think that's a wise choice. ;)

I can make some good ones. HAHA!

Absolutely beautiful pictures!! Hope y'all are finally having fun on your camping trip.

Thanks!! We got back last night and had a really nice time. I didn't sleep for 6 nights, but it was fun nonetheless.

I totally get that. The Ape is cool...however...that mug that they show the drink in ...is also kind of cool...wonder if they do that as a souvie cup too lol. Love the drinking alphabetically idea!! There are so many good drinks to choose from I don't think you can go wrong. Also I love anything with ginger and lemon/lime in it.

Oops on the car foible...kinda makes a funny story..I hope it didn't make anyone too mad (including yourself) and I hope you are having fun!

I think they do offer it as a souvie for $15 more. I"m ok with that. It'll last for years of kooky entertainment for me.

I know! Honestly narrowing things down is going to be hard!

If there weren't goofy stories like that, these threads would be VERY boring. LOL! And I tend to be expert at doing stooopid stuff that makes for entertaining reading- at least to some. Like repeatedly walking into the men's room, spilling drinks, and waving hi to people I've mistaken for those I actually know.

Found my spot, found my spot!

Back on page, like, 101.

(To be honest, I was expecting worse)

You did well!! 80 pages was a LOT of catching up!!

Obviously I'm not gonna comment on everything that happened since then, because that'd be a lot of stuff, and if you're like me, more than half those comments would probably make you go "Huh? When did that happen?"

Heck, there are times I've forgotten what was on ONE page back! LOL!

I did manage to spot a reminder to myself to buy my wife a Minnie Mouse nurse pin since she's officially into the nursing program, so there! Of course, now I can't actually find it anywhere by itself on eBay, but oh well. I still got the reminder!

YES, you should. I"ve gotten 2 and wore them on my uniform and also at work. They remind me of good friends, Disney Dreamin', and hard work. Congrats to her; it will consume her life!! But very worth it!

And here goes the ADRs! Man, having to do it in two shots would have stressed me out, but I'm glad mostly everything seems to have worked out in your favor! Of course, at the point I'm reading, there's probably been some changes (cause it's not a real PTR if there's no Dining Plans changes...) especially since I'm seeing you were hoping for Skipper's Canteen, which has recently switched from walk ups to ADR... suspense!

Brook, my TA was amazing at getting the ADRs I wanted, so I didn't have to stress about it. I was SO busy with school when that time came there was NO way I could have done it.

Yes, we did snag a SC, but the reviews are crappy. Still may try it cuz it's such a cool place!

Loving the Halloween costume :) It is a shame about the new restrictions, but you clearly found a great way around it! Those Mickey Ears are clearly gonna be the perfect touch (along with all the other elements, but you know, everything's gotta have its crowning glory).

I love how they turned out! Super excited about getting to wear it!

Especially since 90% of it appears to be great food plans that I can't really comment much on seeing as I have not tried most of these picks. I think the most adventurous food we've eaten at Disney thus far is Katsura Grill. We need to stop being such wimps with food (though it's easier to be experimental when the bill o' fare is a tad lower than at WDW...)

I agree, better to spend less money (on more authentic fare) outside of Disney first to see you will even come close to liking it. On the flip side, Disney almost always does overly tame versions of most ethnic dishes, so I'm inclined to think you actually might like Disney "ethnic" food more.

This looks so great! That is some skilled airbrushing. And glitter always makes everything better ;)

Thanks!! Glitter will help me celebrate for DAYS!

Belated by a couple of weeks, but congrats!

:jumping1: :jumping1:
:cheer2::banana::cheer2::banana::cheer2:
party:

Thank you!! Glad it's over!

Oof, way to be between a hard place and a rock... I really do hope those 7 raving reviews by far outweigth a less glamorous one.

Me too! Since I won't be working with her, her story may not carry much weight.

My thoughts are with you on this! Of course, I'd be completely caught up right in time for a cliffhanger ;)

Of course!! My pleasure. :)

Last note to add, lovely wedding pictures!

Thank you! It was a wonderful day!

dun, dun, dunnnnnn!!!!

Hopefully, all the studying will pay off.

Congrats for scheduling your Boards! I remember that time well. I took so many practice tests while I was preparing for them it was crazy but I felt that it helped me a lot.

Glad you got your time off squared away.

I have several prep books PLUS an online prep program with something like 5,000 practice questions that I can pull up by topic. I have a lot of work to do between now and the 20th.

I probably only get like one alcoholic drink while on a Disney trip. I just can't justify the prices.

The prices are huge. That's no lie. I can't really justify it either, but there are so many yummy sounding ones.

Bummer about forgetting to pay for the car before they closed. But no reminder call or anything? Did you leave them your cell phone number?

It actually ended up being fine. By Sunday, a week later, we were all kinda ready to come home and de-grease/stinkify.

Way to go!!! Exam not too far away...that's great!! It seems like adequate time to prepare, but not so much that you have to stew about it for ages. And good that your potential new employer seems good with everything!! Things are looking up!!

They really are! And yes, I intentionally scheduled it out far enough to study, and not so long that I forget everything either.

I thought I commented here last night, but then again I was up past 1AM (when the boards go down out here) Perhaps I hit reply and got the "closed" message.

I hate that. Why every single night. In the "old days" it was like every few weeks or so.

Good job on scheduling your NCLEX! One step at a time! You'll get there! And yay for including prior scheduled vacation in your contract!

Yes, one step at at a time. I can't technically even be hired as an RN until I pass and am issued a license #. Although some places will hire you as an LPN while you train and then switch you over to RN status once you pass.

Don't like avocado, so that's okay.
Do like Havarti though. Just had a Havarti pizza a couple of days ago.

Did you make it?!

I hope you brought the makings or you're close enough to a town to get one!

Nope. There is a FABULOUS Mexican place in Sisters called Los Agaves. I had this:

RELLENO DEL MAR * Roasted pasilla pepper stuffed with shrimp, crab & fish with mushrooms, onions, peppers and cheese covered with creamy Poblano sauce. 16.5

I was in Heaven!!!

Sorry about the day... but sounds like things are looking up!

The trip got much better after that...

My daughter is a shift manager at DQ and says it's about as hard to find a quality employee as it is for me to get to Disney more than once every 5 years.

I believe you.
I really wonder... is there no pride anymore when everyone gets a gold star for mediocrity?

Sounds like she has some pretty decent friends!

I hope so.

I have no idea what this is even in reference to anymore. Much like you probably don't even remember what those updates you refer to were about.

I didn't, so I looked. Now I do. But don't care anymore. Nor should you.

Oopsies. Sorry. Soooo, whatever happened on that front. Did you have t pony up the cash?

So, you're saying you don't read my TR???

I'm planning on skipping it this time around, but may be forced to if a Nap Emergency happens.

Such a glowing recommendation!

You stand alone I'm afraid.

I frequently do.

Maybe I need to shower more often.

Have you ever seen Darby O'Gill and the Little People? Scared the crap out of me when I was little!

Nope. Never seen it.

A good movie, not so much for quality or entertaining, that is good for getting a solid education on that culture is Thunder Road with Robert Mitchum. Then again, I know you don't do movies much. Nor do I except when I visit my folks in Bowling Green.

I'll have to see if it's hidden in Netflix since you can't rent movies anywhere anymore.

Now, I think that my motto and your motto would pair up nicely.

:)

You don't look stupid if you pay a bit more for better liquor and just drink less of it.

But you do (or will) if you pay less and drink more.

Wise. I do not have a solid offer yet... but more on this later after Alison's comments.

Standing by...

Oh? Once again... standing by...

That sounds horribly discombobulated!

Huh. Interesting.

Woot!! (maybe)

Shouldn't you wait until you see how many points are available? Like just before I leave?

Let's see? Nope. I still have to cook. The beds and bedding are more comfortable in jail. No one forces me to hike straight uphill for an hour. The only pro to camping is our nightly tradition of happy hour with gourmet cheeses and wine.

Plus the view isn't as nice.

Exactly why I will probably never try my hand at that.

Yeah... Had an oops the other day.
Think I mentioned how I was shooting a grad?
Started at 9:30am. Went well until...
Around 4:40pm, I left a setting on the camera.... so the last 20 minutes or so of photos are all out of focus.

Wonderful.

I have a short list of equipment purchases that are eminent- a filter, a wide angle lens, and possible a macro lens.

Wide angle lens - my most used lens.
Macro - fairly often, but with your penchant for shooting flowers? Definitely get one.

Now I look like a dweeb in wedding clothes and all of them in sweats and flannel. :rolleyes2

Nah. Ya look cute as a button.
(as per usual.)

I see you've posted more comments.... off to read some more.

Funny. I looked up a Gimlet? that one you get a lot. Nope. You can have your gin; I'll keep my whisky.

Gibson!!! Not a Gimlet! Blech! And no I don't do Gin. Me and Gin have not gotten along since I was about 15. My standard drink is a Belvedere Gibson Up. Vodka. It's pretty much a vodka martini but with an onion instead of the olives.

Hopefully, all the studying will pay off.

I'm not worried in the least.

Did you make it?!

No. We ordered it from one of the best Pizza places in Canada (possibly the best, according to Readers Digest anyway.)
Havarti Heaven:
"Finalist for Best Gourmet Pizza 2007" Pizza Festiva NV
Olive oil & herb sauce, roasted red peppers, onions, strip bacon & cajun chicken breast with a blend of garlic n' chive havarti & mozzarella cheese.

Sounds.... invigorating? How's that? Makes it sound less horrible, no?

NO.

Now that sounds good!

It was good. At first. Except it turned out not to be very comfortable and I couldn't sleep. Sigh.

3 months, 2 weeks and 4 days.

Tick, tick, tick.

Choices, choices - yay! I'm sure you'll be able to make a decision when you have more information to compare the positions.

I may have to make a Venn Diagram.

What a Beautiful View !! I can't wait till I can make my FP + 's !! But I have 2 more trips in between !!! Which reminds me I had better update Rosie Roams with that tidbit !!

Yes, you probably should!!! The FiPs are actually stressing me out. I've had a couple of conversations with Marv and Pat about the strategies, but don't have anything nailed down.

You are making me homesivk

Come back for a visit!

I wouldn't even get into it until you have an actual offer meaning like after the NCLEX, and someone has given you a salary figure and asked you to sign on the dotted line. Until then you can't count on anything. I learned that in rentals. I ran a credit check on a guy, called him to tell him he got the place and he said he was moving in with a friend, don't count on anything until the check is in the bank and cleared.

I will likely get offers before I take my Boards. My fear is that I will have two offers and not sure how to professionally communicate (or not) that fact that there are competing offers going on. I may actually get hired on the spot at the Surgi-Center- my good friend was a couple weeks ago at this place. I've had a conversation with a friend of mine who is in the business world and both interviews and trains for interviews and got some good perspective from her.

Gibson!!! Not a Gimlet! Blech! And no I don't do Gin. Me and Gin have not gotten along since I was about 15. My standard drink is a Belvedere Gibson Up. Vodka. It's pretty much a vodka martini but with an onion instead of the olives.

And sometimes she's left shaken if it has an olive and the waiter doesn't stir to change it.

Thanks! That'll work!

So did you get enough to cover it?

So let me get this straight... now you have too many jobs???

Well, technically I don't have ANY jobs yet. But could as early as Thursday.

Saw that on FB. Merely breathtaking.

The one taken on the Canon was even better.

What Alison said.

See reply...

Glad you didn't have to play the "Don't make me have to screw up Marv's vacation plans!"

It was close. Phew!

As much as you've hung out around here??? You HAVE been working too many hours..........your memory is obviously being wiped due to exhaustion and lack of sleep! :scared:

I'm not THAT mean. ;) Most of the time.

After that...........I'm surprised you butt feels at ALL! :rotfl:

They were large. And so, so tasty. And after that hike and all the sitting in the car, my butt felt much better. As in it didn't hurt anymore.

Never hurts to have options, especially when the negotiations ramp up! :thumbsup2

Very true. Just need to research how those "negotiations" work.

Another of the really great pictures you have been posting lately! Girl's got some skills.......... :goodvibes

Thanks, Marv!

Exactly! Well stated.......... ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

See reply above...

Yes no screwing up Marv's vacation plans :crazy2::rotfl2:!!!

I would never screw up Marv's vacation plans- that would mean screwing up my own vacation plans. And we CERTAINLY can't have that!

That feels like it must be :cloud9:

Truly gorgeous up there- but it was COLD! At the top it was only like 46 degrees so we only stayed about 20 minutes. Since it was totally by accident we ended up there. DH mis-read the directions to our hiking trailhead. HAHA!

Ultimately, I think if you end up liking the feel of both places you interview for, it'll be a good thing down the line. You have two chances rather than one, and you don't really have to worry about anything until you're offered a position - and even then, only if *both* places offer you a position. I think especially since you feel that you could do well at both, might as well just take the opportunity while it passes! And maybe you'll even end up liking the feel of the surgical center more once you go there.

My personal take on the matter - say, the surgical center offers you a position, and you're thinking, I'd like to work there, but I feel I'd like to work at the other place more. I don't think it would be bad etiquette to call the first place back, just to briefly mention you have a different offer, but you really feel you could be a good part of the team and really enjoyed meeting with them, so if they have an inkling of where your application is headed you would appreciate the input.

Granted, I have no experience as to if hiring processes in the nursing world are vastly different than other places, I'm sure there's more complexity to it than the jobs I've applied to. But I do know when I was first applying for jobs and they said they'd get back to me within a week, if they hadn't called me back yet, my mom would urge me to call and ask. Showed initiative or something. But maybe she just really wanted me to get a job :rotfl:

All great advice. :) We'll see what Thursday brings and if I get an offer I'll likely ask for a couple of days to consider while I follow up with Place #1.

I can't see the video @Chrystmasangel posted (at work... but later!) so...

I imagine you as a totally hawt jig jig jiggitter.

I'm right. I know I am.

Yes, I was as hawt as Cuzco. :lmao:

You do???? I thought you had it all finalized about a year ago!

Are you kidding me?! Actually, the one things I am a bit wigged about is my FiP+s. I need to ramp up my planning on that front for sure.

I believe you.
I really wonder... is there no pride anymore when everyone gets a gold star for mediocrity?

Don't even get me started...

I didn't, so I looked. Now I do. But don't care anymore. Nor should you.

You DO realized this made me more curious than ever, right?

So, you're saying you don't read my TR???

I'm eerily suspicious I missed and entire update or 2 even? I HATE trying to DIS on my phone. That's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it.

Maybe I need to shower more often.

Showering is over-rated. Hot bubble baths. Right @franandaj ?

I'll have to see if it's hidden in Netflix since you can't rent movies anywhere anymore.

It's really a shame. And Netflix really doesn't stock the really old movies and film noire. Sad.

But you do (or will) if you pay less and drink more.

I see it everyday, sadly, across the street.

Started at 9:30am. Went well until...
Around 4:40pm, I left a setting on the camera.... so the last 20 minutes or so of photos are all out of focus.

Wonderful.

Yeah, that would be a major fail. I hope you did at least get some usuable ones. I mean, you still had 7 HOURS of time to get some good captures!

Wide angle lens - my most used lens.
Macro - fairly often, but with your penchant for shooting flowers? Definitely get one.

I'd have loved a wide angle on that ridge above the lake shot. And I think it'd definitely come in handy at Disney. But yes, I generally like macro photog a lot. I played with a lens at my go-to shop about a month ago, and coming up with $300 is hard.

Nah. Ya look cute as a button.
(as per usual.)

Blush

Gibson!!! Not a Gimlet! Blech! And no I don't do Gin. Me and Gin have not gotten along since I was about 15. My standard drink is a Belvedere Gibson Up. Vodka. It's pretty much a vodka martini but with an onion instead of the olives.

Ok THAT makes more sense. And sounds like something I'd actually like as well. Let's get one sometime!

I'm not worried in the least.

Your confidence is contagious.

WHOA. If we're even in Winnipeg, we'll be hitting that place up for sure!

And sometimes she's left shaken if it has an olive and the waiter doesn't stir to change it.

I see what you did there.

Dang. Gave it a shot.

Always worth a try!

Well that sucks.
Of course I wouldn't know what it's like to not sleep.

:rolleyes1

Of course not. It's a wonder you don't have sleep deprivation psychosis.

NO! DW vetoed the whole thing!
So annoying.

Dang it.

I'll have to see if it's hidden in Netflix since you can't rent movies anywhere anymore.

Really? :confused3 No movie rental in Canada? We ha e these "Red Box" things in front of every grocery store. About the size of a Coke Machine and holds hundreds of movies. $1 per day. There's always a line on weekends at the store near my old house.

And sometimes she's left shaken if it has an olive and the waiter doesn't stir to change it.

Cute. I just give the olives to Fran. And I know not to order one in the MDR on a Disney cruise ship. Get it at the bar and bring it in.

Showering is over-rated. Hot bubble baths. Right @franandaj ?

Bath yes. Bubble no. The Jacuzzi jets create a mountain of bubbles that would eventually suffocate you! :lmao: I prefer muscle relaxing salts.

Ok THAT makes more sense. And sounds like something I'd actually like as well. Let's get one sometime!

Sounds like a plan!

Let's see? Nope. I still have to cook. The beds and bedding are more comfortable in jail. No one forces me to hike straight uphill for an hour. The only pro to camping is our nightly tradition of happy hour with gourmet cheeses and wine.
And the freedom.....don't forget the freedom! :rolleyes2

I was torqued at my family who missed the memo to stay in their nice clothes. Now I look like a dweeb in wedding clothes and all of them in sweats and flannel. :rolleyes2
Well, not sure in this case who the dweebS actually are, but okay...

If there weren't goofy stories like that, these threads would be VERY boring. LOL!
Were you talking about me again and I missed it???:confused3

I may have to make a Venn Diagram.
Why, what did Venn every do to you??? :rolleyes1

Looks like you're all caught up again after your trip..... :scratchin

Home again, home again, jiggity jig!

Lol. I always use that line, too.

All great advice. :) We'll see what Thursday brings and if I get an offer I'll likely ask for a couple of days to consider while I follow up with Place #1.

Sounds like a plan. I remember doing that after grad school, when one place kept stringing me along with "Well, it's between you and this other guy, and we're waiting to make sure we have this project before we commit to hiring someone..." so when I got another offer, I gave them one last chance.

It's really a shame. And Netflix really doesn't stock the really old movies and film noire. Sad.
Really? :confused3 No movie rental in Canada? We ha e these "Red Box" things in front of every grocery store. About the size of a Coke Machine and holds hundreds of movies. $1 per day. There's always a line on weekends at the store near my old house.

Funny, our library has the best movie selection around. That's where we get our dvds - and it's free! And if they don't have it, inter-library loan is our friend. We have RedBox as an option, but it has such a small selection, it hardly seems worth it.
