An interesting turn of events. I got a call from a surgical center last evening regarding my resume. Of course I will interview, but am now very torn on what to do if offered a position. I feel I could do well at both and both have advantages and disadvantages.

Just another chapter in the never ending saga of Steppe-Finds-a-Job....

I wouldn't even get into it until you have an actual offer meaning like after the NCLEX, and someone has given you a salary figure and asked you to sign on the dotted line. Until then you can't count on anything. I learned that in rentals. I ran a credit check on a guy, called him to tell him he got the place and he said he was moving in with a friend, don't count on anything until the check is in the bank and cleared.

I also took the opportunity to give the HR Lady a call to tell her that I'd scheduled and 1) ask for a good reference to get me started in the basics of Hospice Nursing and 2) give her more specifics on the vacation time I needed for the trip and Andrew's wedding. She told me that I could consider those dates pre-employment negotiations and that I'd have that time off assuming everything goes as she and I both expect. Woot!!!!!

Glad you didn't have to play the "Don't make me have to screw up Marv's vacation plans!"

Ultimately, I think if you end up liking the feel of both places you interview for, it'll be a good thing down the line. You have two chances rather than one, and you don't really have to worry about anything until you're offered a position - and even then, only if *both* places offer you a position. I think especially since you feel that you could do well at both, might as well just take the opportunity while it passes! And maybe you'll even end up liking the feel of the surgical center more once you go there.

My personal take on the matter - say, the surgical center offers you a position, and you're thinking, I'd like to work there, but I feel I'd like to work at the other place more. I don't think it would be bad etiquette to call the first place back, just to briefly mention you have a different offer, but you really feel you could be a good part of the team and really enjoyed meeting with them, so if they have an inkling of where your application is headed you would appreciate the input.

Granted, I have no experience as to if hiring processes in the nursing world are vastly different than other places, I'm sure there's more complexity to it than the jobs I've applied to. But I do know when I was first applying for jobs and they said they'd get back to me within a week, if they hadn't called me back yet, my mom would urge me to call and ask. Showed initiative or something. But maybe she just really wanted me to get a job
