The ABC's of Trip Planning, Pt 1- K is for Keeping Things Kooky- Drinks V-Z; pg. 197 + New Link

Sounds like you had a great NY weekend! :cool1: Your Ginger-lime marg sounds yummy. I'm glad the sun came out for you - we didn't have as much gray in the City of Sunshine :goodvibes

Too bad about the ring, I hope he finds it, or someone honest does. It is obviously very personal, so there's hope.

Yay for the tickets!!! 9 days is a lot of Disney days! We are just doing military 4-day plus WP with a resort day. No wonder it is going to take awhile to gear up for, and save for. Looking at your dates, we may get a chance to say hi! We are planning a 2016 cruise and were thinking a 4 day on the Dream with a couple of Epcot F&W days would be nice. That plan remains to be seen. :rolleyes1

Seems like you can often get sun even just a bit out of the valley down here. We've ocassionally talked about moving to Sisters or Bend to get more sunshine.

I am still holding out hope!

Mike insists I get a job first and begin to pay back any debt I'll have incurred before we go. Given that I may not be able to even take the St. Boards for a month or so after graduation, I may only get a few paychecks before the October trip.

Wouldn't that be WONDERFUL!!! I am hoping this can be a kind of try-over for the big DISMEET Jordy and others were planning a few years ago that never came to pass. DO keep me posted!!!

It seems like the pools are fairly big - so easy to avoid the splashy people!

Yes, a fair amount of going from end to end seemed to do the trick. :)

Actually, as sad as it is, but for someone planning to visit WDW in the future, investing in park tickets seems to be a smart move. It gives you a pretty good return on your money.

For sure. I didn't do the math on turning those tickets in to non-expiring if we do end up having to shorten the trip. Either way, I still think I'll be ahead.

Sounds like a great plan! And one can always dream big! :goodvibes

:thumbsup2

WDW is far more fun if one takes some time off from the parks and with 9 days including a break day, touring should be fairly relaxed!

My last trip was like that too, and honestly I didn't really NOT get to do anything I wanted to. It was a nice slow pace, and there was really no running or hurrying whatsoever. I remember one of my little mantras was, "Stop and smell the roses"- which I did. Literally.

I remember that mantra now!! You never finished that trip report, or did you?

I was never able to finish with all the re-transitioning and then the start of school. It was just too much. :sad1: I actually tried to have Marissa (OhMari) open it a couple times last year during my year off, but it never happened. Maybe, if I can find the photos, and figure out where I left off, I can include some highlights here. Still have ALL the notes, my trip reporting notebook, and all that (including the receipts, because I'm just that nerdy). So it's possible. The trick, like I say, is finding the photos. Both computers that they'd have been on are on the fritz.

Oh, I hope you can regain the pictures!! Not for a trip report but as a memory for yourself! I need to go and find your old trip report and reread it to figure out to where you got! :goodvibes

Of course for the foreseeable future you will be plenty busy with school, family and the pre-trip report. But I would love to read some about the highlights of the previous trip!

I agree. I re-opened my Photobucket account and came across all the photos from that trip that I'd uploaded... and what a BLAST FROM THE PAST!!! Oh so many wonderful memories. We laughed until the wet ourselves, literally, and I'm not sure I even ever got to the pink puke chapter. :sad2: I will NEVER forget our dinner at The California Grill, or the Hoop de Doo, or seeing Cirque.

Just did a search for the old TR, and it looks like I left off with Hoop. I think I'll pull out and dust off the TR notebook and see where that puts me.... Who knows what'll happen.

Before I go dark, or at least become quite scarce for a few weeks, other than the requisite updates on how my 2nd Term of Nursing School is going, I thought I'd finish a little piece of business that I'd left quite undone in my last TR. I had promised to post the original photograph from the following post. I dug up my old TR, that didn't have that picture, and inserted it.... other than that, this is the exact post from 2012. For those of you who were following then, I think you'll like the old photo from 1956 or '59... I can't remember now, but will ask Mom. For those of you who are new here, please get some tissue ready; you may just need it. :)

And this brings us to the climax of the Disney trip of a lifetime. Not that it was long, or grand or we spent an exorbitant (other than the normal exorbitant Disney fees) on an elaborate, all-out vacation, but one that could only happen once in a lifetime because circumstances themselves make it such.

Remember that my mom’s cousin, Carol, met us for the day. We had spent the morning touring the Mary Blair exhibit and doing “the submarine ride”, and now it was time for lunch. It was unanimous that, although we had eaten at Carnation the day before as well, Carnation it would be again. There were just too many memories for all of us at that particular place to say no. Whisked into the prim white and red umbrella-ed patio in no time, we quickly made our orders for this and that- none of it special or extravagant in the way of food, but the happy memories of times gone by more than made up for what was lacking in that department. Reminiscing of romping around what those 3 ladies believed to be their personal playground was highly amusing, and then... then out came some pictures.

Carol had brought a small stack of photos that they started going through one by one. Each one got an “oooh” or an “ahhhh”, but one especially got a “ WOW!!!”

Lo and behold, brought from Burbank just for this occasion was an old black and white photo from 1957 of the exact same three ladies sitting at my lunch table!!!! And not just that, but as my mom stared at that photo, her eyes widened and she exclaimed, “HEY! This was taken right over there!” pointing across Main Street to where in the “olden days” stood a flower cart. Captured on glossy photo paper, there they stood, in all their bobby-socked, poodle-skirted glory.

They couldn’t believe their eyes... and then a plan was hatched. Why not re-create the scene more than 50 years later??! YES, we could do that! And we did.

I wish with all my heart I could show you the original. But Carol has never scanned and sent me a copy of it. I have written again today, and as soon as I get it, I promise to post it 

But here is the re-creation of that amazing photo:

It was absolutely wonderful to watch these grown women re-live a special moment, and in the midst of it all create a brand new one that even Disney would be hard pressed to come up with! I knew, in fact, it was SO special and unique that I suggested we take the old picture and head over to City Hall and tell our story. It would be a gross understatement to say that they were completely blown away! The CM to whom we showed the two photos side-by-side took them to the back and showed them to the management in the back and was almost giddy at how utterly cool it was to see 3 women who’d grown up with Disneyland as their youthful stomping grounds coming back more than 50 years later, still having the time of their lives. One dying, but with a grin on her face that not even ALS could mess with. It was a moment in my life I will NEVER forget. Ever.

Added today:

Sadly my aunt passed away only a few months after this trip of ALS. It was the last time I ever saw her. To have made our last memories at Disneyland was indescribable. She was beautiful woman- inside and out.

A red solo cup of cheap wine is the thing that's sticking most in my brain about that update. :rotfl: That and the fact that now I want my family to have this tradition as well. ::yes:: Glad you had a good, (mostly) relaxing time.

And HURRAY for coming home to MICKEY MAIL!! :cool1:

ETA: I was posting my response at the same time as your last update. I'm so sorry for your loss but am also so glad you got the time to make those great memories together. :lovestruc

A nice little get away to the hot springs. A little scary about the tree but glad you only got held hostage for a while.

Yay for Mickey mail.

Love the wonderful update on the picture. What a great memory to watch unfold. :goodvibes

What lovely scenery from your get away weekend.

I hope the ring is found.

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: for Disney tickets.

What sweet pictures from DL; I do remember that from your previous TR. I am sorry to hear that your Aunt passed away shortly after that trip.

Haha, after the wine, not a whole lot really stuck in my brain. :lmao: It's really fun to get away and just relax in a different setting for a couple days. The older kids pitch in financially, so really, with cooking our own meals, it's really not that expensive.

Mickey Mail is tons of fun to get!!!

It was one of the best memories I've made and to be privileged to be part of the making. Like I mentioned in my intro, Disney runs very deep in our family, and has for a very long time. :goodvibes

You never know about trees; they can really mess up plans in no time. For that we subject them to chain saws...

I'm glad you could see it! Definitely a neat memory to have in my heart!

Thanks, Kathy! It's a very pretty area along the McKenzie River. :)

Me TOO!!!

Yes, she was quite the woman! :lovestruc

Thank you for reminding us of that beautiful moment in time with your Aunt and mom and cousin. It is one of the things that keeps us going back - the priceless family times that happen when time stands still and you are 'in the moment'. I'm sorry for your loss, but happy you had those memories of her.

I was very happy to be able to finally share it with you. Between losing the photo deep in my e-mail, not having time to post until this break, and just dropping the ball in general, it was hard to finally do it. :) But I did, and I'm glad it touched your heart. :goodvibes

I wouldn't have wanted my last memories with her to be anything different for SURE! :cloud9:

Aw! So great to be able to see the original photo...I remember the re-creation for your TR, but that was great to see.

I agree with you -- upside-down toilet paper is a crime. I can't understand people who don't see the problem with it! :confused3

Well.... the re-creation was IN my TR, but not FOR my TR. ;) I do a lot of crazy things to get a good TR going, (I *really* hope I can find the zany one I got of Tate going places no one has ever been), but not that one.

WHY do people even THINK that pulling it UP from the bottom is OK? I just don't get that!!!! :confused3 They must have other issues (as opposed to tissues) too. :lmao:

Hi Everyone!

I'm Anara, Steppesister's DD. I'm 12 years old and am homeschooling this year.

I've been to DisneyWorld a couple of times and Disneyland twice. I like WDW WAY more than DLR because it's so much bigger and there's a LOT more things to see and do and eat!

I have a pet rat named Bridgette and am hoping to get 2 goats this spring. We are building a shed for them and are putting up some fencing for them.

I am a blue belt in Karate and will take my test for my next belt after my foot gets better. (I broke it last summer, but it took a long time to heal. A cow stepped on it. :scared:)

My favorite Disney princess is Belle because she doesn't fall in love at first sight and isn't stupid.

My dream resort is AKL and I hope we get to stay there, and my favorite memory is going on Splash Mountain over and over and over one night. I really like the fireworks too, especially when Tinkerbelle flies out of the castle. :tinker:

I'm looking forward to being part of this PTR, and sharing our plans with you too.

(Hi Magdelene and Katharina!!)

Hi Anara, welcome to the Dis !!:goodvibes
