The ABC's of Trip Planning, Pt 1- K is for Keeping Things Kooky- Drinks V-Z; pg. 197 + New Link

What's this about your behind?

It's more behind than my front.

Tell em' it's pot-luck!

I did. I'm in charge of tamales and sauce, everyone else salads, desserts, etc... I are a smart cookie. ;)

Oh, no! How are you feeling now? Considering you posted that a few days ago.

Feeling better now, but still tired. That may never go away though. LOL!

I for reals believed you!

Good, I'm glad someone does!

Lovely. Sounds like food poisoning?

Coulda been... who knows. I'm not entirely ruling out that the 2 gin and tonics the night before didn't hasten whatever was brewing.

 Never seen that before.
What movie is it?

Life with Father. So much good dialogue!

Sweet! A miracle!

:dancer:

Good to know. I've not heard a lot of good about US medical system.

It's very good, unless you are medium sick and need an appt faster than you think you do. Which is most of the time. I dunno. Can't compare, having no experience with the Canadian system. I've heard it's not much better.

I vote #4!
Actually I really do (sort of.) Here's why:
1. You'd be paying for that food whether you got that windfall or not.
2. See above.
3. Oh, just stop trying to keep changing your resorts!
4. It's a windfall. Have some fun with it. Do something that you otherwise wouldn't do.
And if that's "Okay everyone! We have some extra spending money! Let's all get Dole Whip Floats!" then do that.

You are great at analyzing the snot out of stuff. I like this line of thinking! If you show up in October, I'll treat you to one!

I don't know for sure, but I think Andy (et al) is right.
Either access to the credit card or not.

Surely someone is carrying a fanny pack or something? Have them (or you) carry the giftcards and dole them out as needed.

Lanyards. No fanny packs. Although, I'll neither confirm or deny the presence of one such item on our property.

WHAT?!?!?!?!?
When did this happen?!? That's.... that's.... criminal!

It's WAY beyond that. :mad::sad:

Ok, I gotta say it, I'm pretty hacked about the banning of costumes at the Halloween Party. I've been looking forward to wearing my new Nurse-y uniform for a while now, and while I understand the need (somewhat), I don't think anyone can hide bad stuff under some scrubs. I'm in the "this is pretty much over the top" camp. And yeah, I have no problem with the rule (that's always been in effect) of no costumes for adults on any other given night, but for an event specifically designed to play up Halloween... ummm a night of wearing costumes, it just doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Isn't that what the metal detectors are FOR?

Rant over. I hope they soften come next October.

What there is a ban on costumes at the Halloween Party in Disney ???????? Tell me more !!!! As for the Fuzzy Math, I have used it many times , but haven't needed to much lately as it is all FREE except souvenirs !!! Yeah for P &P!! Which reminds me I have to get a get together oprganized for Patti from P &P !!! Remind me please !!!!

I hear that!

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

Coulda been... who knows. I'm not entirely ruling out that the 2 gin and tonics the night before didn't hasten whatever was brewing.

Perhaps.
:rolleyes1

Pretty much.
Got an emergency (like life threatening)? great.
Got to see a doctor and have an appointment? great
Need to see someone now? not-so-great

Ok... I have a really big problem with this rule and I think Disney is going to have to be very careful about how they explain/enforce it.

I mean... you're talking about a nurse-y costume. I don't know what all your plans entail, but you mentioned scrubs. So are scrubs part of a costume or is it someone who works in medicine stopping by the parks after work?

And what does it mean for Disneybounding? Or for someone who just wants to be an individual and dress a little bit different from "normal?"

I mean, there is just a whole lot of grey area here that Disney is leaving itself open for potential problems.

Isn't that what the metal detectors are FOR?
Here's where I stand on metal detectors...

If they want metal detectors, fine. Get enough of them to run everyone through one without making the line to get through security worse than it is.

But if they just want to have 1 or 2 of them per park and just randomly run people through them, let's just drop the façade of an extra layer of security and stop wasting everyone's time.

HI Rosie!!

Yes, you need to start planning! Oh how I'd love to plan a trip that someone else!

Yes, they, in addition to installing a FEW metal detectors to scan a FEW random guests (from my understanding at this point), they also are banning costumes for ALL guests over 14 (which has always been the rule) INCLUDING the hard ticket parties. How incredibly stupid! Halloween IS about dressing up and a lot of people plan their costumes for MONTHS. What a shame to see that aspect disappear! So sad....

Now you're just talking dirty.

Down boy! :lmao:

Heard of it. Never seen it though.

I really like it. The dialogue is fabulous and Elizabeth Taylor. Nuff said.

Pretty much.

We do have a ton of Urgent Care Clinics that seem to have a lot of same day appts. for things like sprains and even fractures, sore throats, etc... but if you have vague pain which could be anything from bursitis to cancer, forget it.

That's exactly it! How are they to judge this?!! Someone shows up in a burqa and now it's a costume? Or scrubs after work.....? Or a cancer turban...? It's so over-the-top dumb. There is NO way to enforce it or be fair whatsoever. Dapper Days, Disneybounding, all that. It's just weird. And on top of all that they say it's for Halloween too?! Seriously?

Here's where I stand on metal detectors...

Agreed 100%! Put in enough for everyone to be screened (in a timely manner) and the costume issue goes away. Oh, and by the way, just for clarification, I do agree with Disney on banning them (obvious costumes that could be confused for a Cast Member on any given day) on regular park days. My issue is for the hard ticket parties. But, yes, either EVERYONE gets screened or no one. IN today's world, I kinda side with everyone. The parks are a prime target for a mass event.

I'm guessing that you're feeling better from the fact that you're posting again. It's nice that you got that news for the co pay. Anything helps!

I was astonished when I read on your PTR that they were not allowing costumes at the Halloween parties, but I googled it and found an article from the Orlando Sentinel confirming just that. Wow! I'm mean just wow! I agree with everything that you and Andy were saying about how do you draw the line between a costume and everyday clothes or even dress up clothes? I can tell you that I now have absolutely no desire to attend one of the parties now.

I'm also afraid to go to Disneyland with the new metal detectors. I hear it's a zoo out there right now. People have been posting pictures of the screening area and it seems like total mayhem. I'm going to wait until after the New Year to try and check it out.

In the meantime, I hope you stay sane and enjoy all the family you are having over. It's just the two of us, no tree, no gifts. Kind of sad. Just a prime rib and maybe some desserts. Merry Christmas!

I am, THANKS! I've spent countless hours decorating (will have some pix to post soon...) the house and making it festive for the gang. I love that part of Christmas for sure!

Yes, the extra savings will help, as will the extra days I"m working during my break! I hope to get at least 2 more in before I head back to school in the 4th.

It's an outrage to be easy on them. We'll still go simply because I want to see the fireworks and parade, but it'll take a MAJOR piece of fun out of the evening for me. I honestly think it may be a ploy to cut the crowd numbers for the party- because I do think it'll take a bite out of attendance. In a huge way. :(

Now it makes Rope Drop even more important to get to- even an hour before! What a joke.

In the meantime, I hope you stay sane and enjoy all the family you are having over. It's just the two of us, no tree, no gifts. Kind of sad. Just a prime rib and maybe some desserts. Merry Christmas!

Haven't even started cooking yet, although my tamales are all made and ready. Just need to make the red sauce from dried chilis. Wednesday, I'll do up my breakfast casserole and dips for a low-key lunch. Some years are more subdued, and we've had MANY that were just us while we were living overseas. It was hard to find ways to make it special. Even if it was just some paper and scissors making snowflakes. :)

So...I think I am a little late.........

Can I join the party?!?!

:cool1::cool1::cool1: Hey Maroo.....

So...I have a Disney bug! We had a great Make a Wish trip for Abby Grace (I need to change my pictures in my signature!) but I didn't get to watch Wishes, ride Buzz, or do too, too much that I really wanted to do...so I am thinking I need to crash this party and go to Disney for a weekend in October of 2016! Not sure whether to do the first weekend and do a couple of days on my own and then meet up for a day or so? Or what? But I think I will start another year of Disney in October and go a few days and crash this party!!

Yes you do. We are planning on arriving Oct 14th I think....

Liesa, Sorry you were feeling like crud. I hope most of that has passed and you can get on with celebrating.
I am going with school and holiday stress contributing not the gin and tonics.

What a great miracle on Zach's medicine. Yes the "extra" money needs to go towards something special. Even if that is extra souvies at the parks.

am now sick. For reals sick. I thought maybe the couple of gin and tonics I had at a cookie decorating ladies' night were too much, but I started throwing up at about 1:00 AM and continued a lot of today. Now I just feel like dog meat. Achy, feverish, tired, all that good stuff... The family get-together may be 1,000 times more scaled back than all other previous years. At this point, I really don't even care. At least the tamales are made, right? And I think everyone has at least 1 something under the tree.

Ugh. Hope you're feeling better now. Just like no one should be sick on vacation, it also applies for Christmas.

But somone, somewhere, randomly (?) decided that we qualified for financial aid and that the company would be picking up our co-pays and any deductibles we'd have this entire year up to $250 a month to cover his growth hormone. We never applied, filled out any paperwork or requested this assistance. In the past, many years ago we applied for and got some help but that was through a foundation that raised support through philanthropists. This is quite different for some form of aid to come directly through a Pharma Co. And extremely welcome at that!!!

Beautiful! I'm glad someone is looking out for you!

$700 dollars is:

1) About a 1/3 of all we'd spend on food for the entire trip, or

2) Almost 2 entire plane tickets, or

3) 2 nights at AKL, or

4) A helluva lot of Dole Whip Floats

::yes:: Saving up Disney Visa points for years just about paid for all of our meals on our past weekend trip. It was like giving ourselves free dining! So we spent more on souvenirs.:sad2:

Wow, I hadn't heard about that. But it does seem incredibly over the top. Classic overreaction.

So I've fallen behind again :guilty:. I'm sorry you've been sick, I hope that you're on the mend!

That is really awesome about your unexpected support from the med company! Sometimes we get those little treasures when we need them the most! :genie: Very cool that you are going to be able to apply that savings towards your trip.

I think the break and some RnR is all you need to come back swingin' at school!

I hope you and your family have a wonderful and restful Christmas!

Hooray for the extra money!!
Please send that vibe my way. Just spent money on car and found out black lab needs surgeon on his eye. How will I save Disney money this way?!
I had read about the costume ban just before I read you "rant". I understand it through the year, but on Halloween too! That does seem overboard.
Before I don't get a chance:

Have a Merry Christmas! Enjoy your family time and the rest of your school break!

Hey Liesa! I'm home today and getting ready to start my cooking for tonight's celebration, but I wanted to stop by. First, I am curious about your Christmas tamales. It is a huge thing here, but with 95% Latino culture here, it makes total sense. I hadn't heard much about this holiday tradition until moving to San Antonio. Is this something you have always done, or when did it start for your family? Love them, BTW and they are a perfect comfort food.

Yay! For help with Zach's meds! Perfect time for some Disney math figurin' . There won't be a test, even!
:rotfl2:

Loved the video! Made me laugh, and reminds me of trying to explain Disney math to Jim!

MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and your family and to all the great DIS types on here! Be blessed!

I'm all better now- a short-lived tummy bug of some sort, methinks. But although *I* got past it, my poor little one (ok, fine, my 13 year old, who's not so little anymore) was in the ED last night with what turned out to be a bladder infection. It was a terrible few hours before I finally took her in. Antibiotics saving Christmas Day since 1935!!!

Right now, I'm still working to get enough money in the SSDA (Super Secret Disney Account) to pay for food. Eating is a good thing. Eating good food is even better. I do have enough for our airfares, but am almost starting from scratch for the approx $140/day for the food I think we'll spend. X10 is about $1,400. Seriously, this trip is the slow boat to China. And Mexico, and Test Track, and....

Poor Anara. Hope she's starting to feel better?

I am but Anara had a little "trouble" last night. Quick, THANK GOD!, trip to the ED and she's on the mend.

Beautiful! I'm glad someone is looking out for you!

:wizard::genie: Take yer pick.

::yes:: Saving up Disney Visa points for years just about paid for all of our meals on our past weekend trip. It was like giving ourselves free dining! So we spent more on souvenirs.:sad2:

I need to check my balance. Oh! And pay my balance. :scared:

Wow, I hadn't heard about that. But it does seem incredibly over the top. Classic overreaction.

Uh huh. Totally.

So I've fallen behind again :guilty:. I'm sorry you've been sick, I hope that you're on the mend!

Falling behind on here is the story of my life- and even more so during the school terms. I'm all better, just in time for the holiday parties galore. And there are plenty of those!

That is really awesome about your unexpected support from the med company! Sometimes we get those little treasures when we need them the most! :genie: Very cool that you are going to be able to apply that savings towards your trip.

Absolutely!! Super excited that we'll have a little bit more towards making the trip that much more paid off/doable!

I think the break and some RnR is all you need to come back swingin' at school!

I hope that does the trick! I really need ME to pull this gig off!

I hope you and your family have a wonderful and restful Christmas!

Thank you!! Wishing you a VERY Merry Christmas and wonderful, restful, enjoyable time with your festivities.

Hooray for the extra money!!

UGH! Vet bills are the worst. :( So sorry your doggie isn't 100% right now! It's hard to put cash away when the bill are piling up; I know this all too well.

You, and your family as well! Celebrate and enjoy every moment. :)

We've done Christmas Eve tamales for many years beginning when I was in Jr. High school when a friend of my mom's taught her how to make them. Before that, we'd buy them from our Latino friends where I grew up in Hemet, CA, where it's a HUGE deal. We also did luminarias which are so, SO beautiful! My collega Alma Mater has a big display every year, and I helped set them up when I was there. Tamales, back to those, are best with homemade red chili sauce. My family raved this year over the meal. YUM! They were pissed when there were enough left over for another meal and I froze them. They have eaten them all night long if I'd have let them. Silly kids. ;)

OH wow! I love the "No test" spin! You're good, Tammie!

Loved the video! Made me laugh, and reminds me of trying to explain Disney math to Jim!

We joke about Fuzzy Disney All-the-time, Life Math a lot, using that quote. But, hey, we haven't bounce a check in like 20 years. So something must be going ok.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and your family and to all the great DIS types on here! Be blessed!
[/QUOTE]

To you and yours as well, Dear Friend!! Enjoy all you have and especially family the next few days and all year long!

Glad you're feeling better!

Poor Anara. Hope she's starting to feel better?

YAY!! She's on the mend, but not 100%. Antibiotics are now coursing through her veins and doing what it should. :worship:
