The 4th+ FP Trifeca: Soarin, Test Track and Frozen

The lesson to be learned here is never give up! I've been a big defender of the new FP system but was worried about my first trip where basically every loophole I've ever used has now been closed.

Arrived at Epcot this past Sunday at about 3pm after spending the morning at AK. I was able to get a Soarin FP earlier that afternoon when we finished our AK FP. Right after scanning at Soarin I refreshed a number of times to fairly easily find Mission Space within 30 minutes after ending Soarin and then Spaceship Earth about 30 minutes after that. That's when the fun began. We were planning on spending the rest of the afternoon & evening (5 of us) in WS doing F&W and had been refreshing a number of times to try to get an Illuminations FP as those seem to pop up fairly regularly. At around 6pm a FP popped up for Test Track at 6:40! We rode that and headed back to WS again keeping on my phone waiting for Illuminations to appear. And at 8pm an 8:30 Frozen popped up! Did that and watched Illuminations basically by the rail right outside Norway without ever having see that FP (I had seen it earlier in the day but wanted to get a few more rides in first as the Illuminations FP is one I'd only take when I was done riding for the day).

We spent 5 days there the weekend of Jersey Week and the longest line we stood on was 30 minutes to meet princesses at MK. At various points we got 4th FP for pretty much anything we wanted. The only rides I can think of that didn't show up were the Pandora attractions and 7DMT. (Some rides like Peter Pan and Space Mountain rarely showed up and usually only very late or for hours past).

The only downside was that we did a lot more criss crossing of the parks as we often took what FP popped up for near immediate use (which I guess considering what I ate might be considered an upside).

FP+, now that you can get add'l FP by app, is really amazing. But it really does take a lot of refreshing to get full use out of it. I personally never minded sitting there and refreshing 15 times a minute for 5 minutes and I can see if you're the type of person who just looks and takes what is offered the first time you may get frustrated. But for those with patience and persistence - you can really get a lot done!

Awesome! I've done this too...many times. Really, the only thing that's really hard to get as a 4th is FoP...very hard. Other than that, every single ride at WDW can be had.

I know you guys are talking about using the phone app while in the parks, but does refreshing the website do the same thing when trying to find FPs? I'm usually clicking between morning, afternoon, and night over and over trying to get FPs to show up.

Yes even on the mobile site you can use the times (6:30 for example) or time periods to refresh. Just tap on one to refresh. I usually just check within the hour by tapping back and forth and scanning through the list.

I love hearing of other serial refreshers! I got Soarin' twice, Frozen, and Toy Story as additional FP by refreshing during Jersey Week. During Easter week, I got Frozen twice, Toy Story, Soarin, 7DMT, and Space Mountain as additional FP. I love it. The longest line we waited in during Jersey week was 20 min. We took a quick 3 day trip so being able to get additional fastpasses on the app and refreshing made our trip.

We were able to secure 6 FP+ for Flight of Passage this past Saturday at around 5:30 pm by refreshing while waiting in line for the Safari. We used two phones and all 6 had different start times, but all overlapped at 7:15. After 30 days of trying almost nightly, persistence paid off.

I got FOP twice, once for 5 people, once for 3 (and found a few others) and saw just about every other ride there was. MK seemed a bit more difficult, but I didn't really try there. I usually just search for FPs while in line and have had great luck. I was also there Jersey Week and crowds were not light

Now that same day FPs can be made on the phone I think I might like the new system better than the paper FP

I also have been confused by the term "refreshing " because there isn't an actual refresh button (and I am a literal person so this confused me). I believe what most people do is get a fastpass for anything and then hit modify and then click on the various times you want (i.e. If you want 4pm, click 4:00,4:15,4:30,4:00,4:15,4:30). Every time you choose another time it will refresh availability. From reading, this works best if you have a Fp for the desired attraction and are just tweaking time, but can be done as I indicate above to changr a Fp to the desired attraction. We fly to wdw today and will be trying this
. Good luck!

I've found that results can vary by refreshing even every few seconds on the app. Be persistent and you might just get lucky.

How much time are you guys spending on your phones? I hate HATE HATE having to be on my phone (we are on vacation, and besides we are trying to model proper adulting to our kids and having my nose stuck in my phone is something I try to avoid...but I digress...)

The last time we are at WDW, you could only get that 4th FP from a kiosk, so we rarely bothered, so I'm curious the level of dedication needed to really work this.

Why/how does the refreshing work? Is it because someone just happens to drop a FP and you happen to be lucky enough to grab it by being persistent. Or, is it just part of the technology? I have never tried it while at the parks, so I am curious. Thanks!

I agree. Actually, you can start looking for that 4th fastpass almost as soon as you check in for the 3rd. For example, if I check for my 3rd (or beyond) at Buzz Lightyear spin, there's usually a couple minutes before getting on the ride. That's when I'll play with the phone and try to set up the next one. I very rarely do "rapid" refreshes out in the park.

It's a mystery (at least to me). I don't believe its all that related to those dropping existing FP's. You can one second get nothing available or times you don't want, then a couple seconds later get a completely different set of times. I haven't done it all that much, but it seems pretty random.
