The 2010 DIS Forum Disneyland Paris Awards - The Results!

The bad news is that I've been absent from these boards for almost 6 months and these awards have been left in the dark.

The good news is I am collating the votes now and the results will be posted shortly!

Huge apologies for the delay, but excitement and anticipation as we get close to knowing who has won!

I was just wondering about the awards! Cant wait for the results :goodvibes

Best Show

WINNER
Cinemagique (25%)

cinemagique.jpg

Disney Showtime Spectacular (15%)
Animagique (15%)
Stitch Live (15%)
Moteurs… Action! Stunt Show Spectacular (10%)
Mickey’s Winter Wonderland (10%)
Playhouse Disney Live on Stage (5%)
Winnie the Pooh and Friends, Too (5%)

It’s worth noting here that there were half as many votes in this category than the previous categories and these votes were taken before the return of The Tarzan Encounter. It goes to show that people really do miss having a full-time proper stage show in the vein of Tarzan and The Legend of the Lion King. That said, Cinemagique is a very worthy winner and one of the best attractions in the whole resort, probably number 1 in Walt Disney Studios for me. The mix of classic footage with the original story of George and Marguerite spliced in seamlessly is simply brilliant. It’s a story that can pull at your heartstrings too, as all the great Disney films do.

Hands up who looks out for ‘that guy at the beginning’ to see if you can spot him – yeah, me too. Although you are not allowed to film the show there are some videos on YouTube taken with mobile phones and video cameras, however I strongly urge you to resist temptation and see it for the first time when you visit Disneyland Paris. It’ll be worth the wait and will no doubt be a highlight of your stay – do yourself a favour and don’t spoil it for yourself.

Of the others I always enjoy Animagique and Playhouse Disney was one of Lucas’s favourites when we visited last year and I’d recommend it to anyone with a toddler. Mickey’s Winter Wonderland was a lot of fun, especially Donald Duck, but I’ve not been in Disneyland Paris during the Christmas season since 2005 so it’s drifted from my memory more than others.

I’d predict Tarzan will reclaim it’s crown if I do another round of voting this year and let’s hope there’s another show in 2012 to vie for the title of best show.

WINNER
Once Upon A Dream Parade (55%)

justlike.jpg

2nd Fantillusion (25%)
3rd Halloween Parade (10%)
4th= Minnie’s Party Train (5%)
5th= Stars ‘n’ Cars (5%)

Let’s face it, there wasn’t much competition for Once Upon A Dream Parade. It’s not that Fantillusion isn’t great, but more that it’s a part time parade at best, so due to the fact that a lot of people won’t have actually seen Fantillusion during the voting period it didn’t get so many votes.

I first saw the Once Upon A Dream Parade in 2007 when it debuted for the 15th Anniversary. While it is a really fantastic show, I do prefer the music for The Wonderful World of Disney Parade, Dancin’ (A Catchy Rhythm), which preceded the Once Upon A Dream Parade. I’m sure a lot of that is to do with The Wonderful World of Disney Parade being the first parade I ever experienced at Disneyland Paris.

There are a couple of scary and 'gross' bits which stopped us from taking Lucas in when we last went - he was 2 1/2 at the time.

Best Disneyland Park Land

WINNER
Fantasyland (56%)

fantasyland.jpg

This amazing photo of Fantasyland comes from azerinn.

2nd Adventureland (24%)
3rd Frontierland (12%)
4th Discoverland (8%)

I’m guessing that because Main St. USA doesn’t have land at the end is why it didn’t get any votes, but maybe that’s my fault for not posing the question as favourite area, rather than land. As for the winner, I can see why people like it, but I disagree – a land that holds both Pirates of the Caribbean and Blue Lagoon is a sure thing in anyone’s book – well, it is in mine at least.

Fantasyland is very pretty but it’s a little bit too sugary sweet for my liking. I much prefer the more rugged landscapes of Adventureland and Frontierland. On a summer’s day nothing looks better than the sun reflecting off of the lake in Adventureland with the backdrop of Captain Hook’s ship and Skull Rock, with Pirates of the Caribbean looking in the background. I think the only think that comes close for me is looking straight down Main St USA and seeing the Castle at the end, which could rival Adventureland, depending on my mood. So maybe my phrasing of nothing looks better should have a caveat for the Castle.

Discoveryland has some amazing visuals, like the X-Wing and Jabba The Hutt’s Sail Barge near Star Tours, Space Mountain 2 (especially at night, remember this incredible photo?), Videopolis and even Orbitron can be quite the spectacle. However, I get a cold feeling when I’m in Discoveryland – it just doesn’t seem as welcoming.

Disneyland Park is absolutely beautiful and these rankings are only varying degrees of great, there’s no bad in Disneyland Park.

Love that photo :love:

I am surprised Fantasyland won - and by such a lead. I thought it would be a toss-up between Frontierland or Adventureland.

I'm glad Cinemagique won the Best Show category - I love this and think it's a real hidden gem.

Best Land/Area in Walt Disney Studios

WINNER
Toy Story Playland (50%)

toystoryplayland.jpg

2nd Toon Studio (27%)
3rd Backlot (14%)
4th Disney Studio 1 (9%)

Sorry, but I don’t agree. There’s no doubt that Toy Story Playland is a dynamic addition to Walt Disney Studios, but best land/area in Walt Disney Studios? Surely not. I’ve no doubt the rides are fun, for some, but visually it doesn’t hold a candle to the amazing Studio 1 which is an area that I believe is very under-utilised, especially in the evenings. When they have the bands playing Studio 1 is absolutely glorious and a nice contrast to the character driven areas we see in most of the resort.

The addition of Tower of Terror makes Production Courtyard a front runner too, but it didn’t get one single vote! That shocks me as it looks great and has the best thrill ride in Disneyland Paris, as voted for in these very awards here.

Maybe I’m concentrating too much on aesthetics and not enough of attraction experiences, but to my mind the visuals are as important, maybe even more so.

Overall Best Land/Area

WINNER
Fantasyland (50%)

dis-fant.jpg

2nd Adventureland (22%)
3rd Main St USA (17%)
4th Frontierland (13%)
5th Discoveryland (9%)
6th Toy Story Playland (4%)

The results here go to prove two things:

1) When I left out the word area when asking for votes for best Disneyland Park land, I did Main ST USA a dis-service as in that vote it didn’t even get a mention, where as here it beat out both Frontierland and Discoveryland.

2) Even though Toy Story Playland was voted the top land/area in Walt Disney Studios, people see it as an inferior land/area compared to any in the Disneyland Park. That’s no great surprise, and it also still shocks me that anyone would choose Toy Story Playland over Studio 1 when looking at Walt Disney Studios.

Best Piece of Music

WINNER
Just Like We Dreamed It (26%)

Listen on YouTube

2nd= It’s Halloween-Lo-Ween (17%)
2nd= It’s A Small World (17%)
4th= Dancin’ (A Catchy Rhythm)(13%)
4th= Chante, c’est Noel (13%)
6th= Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me) (9%)
7th Fantillusion (4%)

While I’d put Dancin’ (A Catchy Rhythm) at number 1, that’s a pretty great bunch of Disneyland Paris songs. Interesting that although Dancin’ (A Catchy Rhythm) hasn’t been used in the parks since early 2007 it’s still been voted in as the number 2, equal, piece of Disneyland Paris music. All the other pieces of music in the list are currently used in the parks. Well, I say parks, all these are from Disneyland Park -- no Cinemagique or Animagique. I’m surprised there were no votes for Grim Grinning Ghosts given the popularity of Phantom Manor.
