What a great time! Being true senior citizen at 76 ( wife will not admit how old she is, but she also has senior status) we were concerned about this all being a bit much for us, but we had a great time with 8yr old grandson, our daughter and son in law. I even dressed as a pirate! One last minute hitch was Crusing Grandma has some very major surgery on her stomach and is limited in what she can eat for several weeks. All happened after we were booked. THe first night when the dinning romm team realised that all that my wife requested was mashed potatoes they smrung into action and provided her with an assortment of pureed foods. And our dinning recors was marked and everynight she had special meals.....I'll admit pureed carrorts with a splash of orage liquior were good. She also was provided with an assortment of soups at each meal....find that kind of service with any other cruise line. We are all set for a 2011 adventure, wife says she wants to go when she can enjoy the food as much as the rest of us did

I am so excited to see this TR. I was planning on taking my parents next year on a 3 night cruise. They have never cruised although my dad (81) use to be a merchant marine so needless to say the idea of sailing isn't too appealing to him. I think he keeps thinking back to his 20s when he was on a ship for months working. My mom (75) isn't too thrilled either for a different reason. But I think if they give it a try they will love it. Can you share what you did (excursions, on board activities, etc) anything that will help this daughter make this a memorable experience for her parents!

Thanks Granddad for making such a great report!! I am sooo excited you enjoyed it, we're taking my 67 year old father and my mom (married 48 years) on their first Disney cruise across the seas (Mediterranean)..which I might add you can get 10 night for $999 for April/May 2010!! :) I was hoping all the Disney theme wouldn't bug them..I hope they get into it as much as you did! Need to go find some Pirate gear!! :) I am sorry about your dear wife, both my parents had intestinal surgeries this year, so I know how miserable it must have been to be careful with her diet, hoping y'all can get back before 2011!!! :)

I'm wondering if you skipped Nassau due to the crime spree that has hit the popular tourist areas? I read an article about people being robbed at gunpoint and it said that DCL, Carnival and another line were skipping Nassau.

Glad to hear that you really got into the cruise and had fun. Last year I took my elderly parents (70 & 82) and they are ready to go back. My mom has food allergies and the CMs went out of their way to accommodate her dietary needs.
One of the many reasons I love DCL.:goodvibes

Editing my own question. I read on another thread that they were just skipping the excursions, not the island itself... although some posters are wishing they would skip Nassau in exchange for the Keys or another island.
