Thanksgiving Day Plan

I had an idea for Thanksgiving Day and I'm curious if anybody here has done something like this and has some words of wisdom for how best to do this. I would like to stay out of the parks for that day, since I know they will be bananas. This is my family's first time at Disney with Christmas decorations up, so we want to see it. My girls will be 8 and 10 for this trip. I thought we could try to do lunch at Whispering Canyon for lunch and then maybe do a resort tour of the monorail resorts to see all of the Christmas trees and decorations. Do the lounges at the hotels typically offer hot chocolate or any type of seasonal drinks my kids would enjoy? For those who have done anything like this, would this be a fun way to spend the afternoon and is there enough to see and do for a couple of kids? We are staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge, so I figured we could either have dinner at Disney Springs this night or dinner at our resort to close the day out in a more relaxing manner.

Curious about this as well. We will be there over Thanksgiving and it’s a non park day for us as well. We thought about checking out some of the resorts we’ve never been too.

Curious is any of the restaurants at the resorts or Disney Springs offer Thanksgiving style meals then.

I saw a DFB video that suggested Whispering Canyon for Thanksgiving Day, so that's really where I got the idea.
