Thanksgiving Airtran fares surprisingly low?!

I was checking Tgiving fares just "for fun" but planning to actually go in April again. The fares started out low and have dropped even further a week later. I thought this was supposed to be the worst week to fly? If this year is normal we could save $100 per RT ticket going for TG versus spring break. Is this typical or just a fluke?

Just make sure you are checking the right dates. Thanksgiving is early this year on Nov. 22, not Nov. 29.

Yup, 11/17 to 11/24

Those are the exact dates we are going. I figured I would be @ $1500 for the 4 of us and ended up $118.40. I was surprised to see them that low and I was able to get the exact flight times I wanted with non stop.

That's so great. Have you flown over TG before? Is this just a fluke? It's killing me not to just snatch them up for this year at these prices.

We flew over Thanksgiving in 2008. We flew Direct Air. It cost us $644 and SW was $1496.80. ( I save everything on a spreadsheet)

I've heard the Sunday after Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year. Looking at MCO-PIT on SW, the cheapest one way is $243 for that date.

Yikes. I'm looking at GRR to MCO nonstop. When I first posted they were $122 each way. Now the return flight is up to $221. From the replies it sounds like getting a deal for TG next year is pretty iffy. I guess I'll see how bad April fares look in Sept and ask myself if I feel lucky...
