We've finally booked the final outstanding part of our holiday in August. Thanks to the posts on this forum we've saved an absolute fortune. Here's how it stacks up (bear in mind these prices are for August, school holidays...)
4 weeks villa, great location, backs on to conservation land - £1500
2 adults, 2 children, flights with United £1900
4 weeks car hire, minivan with Dollar - £179/week fully inclusive.
Annual family insurance - £62
4 florida fun in the sun tickets, 30 days access... £210/adult
This has to be the cheapest US trip we've booked (per week price at any rate...), and it's mainly down to the good advice we've found on this board.
Thanks everyone!
Ian

It's looking good  ....... so now it's all systems go for planning :sunny: !!!

I know, these boards should be required reading for anyone planning a trip to WDW/Orlando.

Ian,
That is great news:D
Four weeks,I'm jelous
;)

HOW LUCKY ARE YOU THEN MATTY TO BE OFF TO FLORIDA FOR 4 WEEKS!!
I have saved a fortune by taking the advice from the good people from this forum.
My whole holiday for 12 people will be costing us around £6,000 all inclusive for jan 04.
I think the biggest luxury we have splashed out for is the villa which cost us £1500 for 2 weeks but it is a bit special and we fell in love with it.
2 mins from the gates of AK
I can just see myself in that jacuzzi with my B52 in on hand and a good book in the other!
I am going to Majorca in 3 weeks time and we are paying £649 for a week in a 3 bed villa, so compared to this I think the prices are excellent to rent a villa in Florida

Four weeks! I'm green with envy. :bounce:

You'll probably go home with an American accent. :p

That's a good point about villa rentals in Florida/Orlando Lin.

We were looking at Portugal or Spain for October and I'm now thinking the Gulf Coast is a better option because good quality villas cost so much less than European ones.

I DON'T USUALLY SPEND ANY MORE MONEY GOING TO FLORIDA THAN GOING ON HOLIDAY IN EUROPE.
THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS SPENDING THE MONEY ON PARK PASSES.
AFTER MY HOLS IN JAN04, WE ARE GOING TO HOLIDAY IN FLORIDA EVERY YEAR BUT CUT DOWN ON THE PASSES AND GO AND EXPLORE THE BEACHES.

I was referring to this comment.

I know it's a bit of an extravagance going for 4 weeks rather than 3 or heaven for bid 2! But it's only costing an extra £179/week for the van and £375/week for the villa (at least this is the tack I took with dw!) And it's nice to be able to take advantage of the one real perk to being a teacher, i.e. the long holiday. Incidently, I'm likely to be in school the other 2 weeks of the 6, at least I'll be looking forwards to the trip!
By the way Steph, my two toddlers already usually say 'you're welcome' when someone thanks them for something! (they definitely didn't get that from me... I blame American T.V! It couldn't possibly be the holidays... Could it?
Ian

"You're welcome" is one of my stock phrases too. And if someone asks me how I'm doing, I always respond with, "Good" rather than, "Fine" as is the British norm.

Far too many holidays at WDW, I guess. (Yet another adopted phrase!)

We have a lot of that going on here too :)

Matty - no excuses needed for a nice long holiday (see, I didn't say vacation or trip ;))

Don't you just luv it when you do it yourself and save money!!!
