Thankful and Thriving-November 2024 WISH

We got DD's CT results and they were normal. I have been feeling like i was going to have a break down for several days now and it hit today. With everything being normal (I am very happy about this) we don't have any answers and that is the worst part. I just want something. We are waiting on one test result. It is a type of pneumonia. I talked with her immunologist and we have an appointment for the first week of December as well as blood work that will get done on Monday. They are also going to put her on maintenance antibiotics (the z-pack). She will take 1 every other day. I am waiting to hear back, but they might take her off her current antibiotic and switch to doing the typical 5 days of the z-pack before then starting the maintenance dose. I am going to sit with my feelings today and get back to things tomorrow. I did go for a walk at lunch so I at least did something.

We've kind of been chatting about it anyway, but how far along (if at all) are you on your Christmas decorating?

not very far! DH put the lights on the bushes but they aren’t on yet.

Is it different for you this year since Thanksgiving is late in the month?
Not really, started shopping early but no real change with decorating

Do you have any hard and fast rules about when you will decorate for Christmas?

not really just after Thanksgiving. Lights may go up early based on the weather (IYKYK) but they don’t get turned on until after Thanksgiving

Do you go all out, or do you like to keep it simple?

Somewhere in the middle! We could go “further” for sure but we aren’t super simple. Lots of things that light up, sparkle or make noise!

Sorry for the formatting my phone doesn’t want to play nice tonight

I still haven't started our decorating yet, but think I will this weekend. We typically don't do anything until after Thanksgiving, but kind of wanting to get it done! We usually decorate after Thanksgiving and take down on New Years Day. Kind of a low key day to sleep in and get the house back in order from the holidays!

We are also in the middle. I used to do more when the kids were home and I purged quite a bit when we moved. When we built our house it was originally supposed to be done around Halloween and we didn't end up getting to move in until the end of February. I had all of our Christmas decorations in storage to prepare for showing our house. Since we ended up showing it during the Christmas season, I got one of the Snowman trees and a bit of garland to put around the main rooms. It kind of made me like the simpleness of it and I didn't do as much the following year in our new house and it's kind of stuck. We do way more than the tree and garland, just not as much as before.

I am going to woohoo that I made it today. Yesterday was really rough on me emotionally. I gave myself the day and I am back at it today. I didn't eat anything extra yesterday either. I had a grilled cheese for lunch and then we had Chipotle for dinner. I did have pop with dinner though. I went for a 20 minute walk at lunch and then we walked up to get dinner so that was about 30 minutes. Hopefully I can get out twice today for a walk. We are supposed to get rain and then tomorrow we should get our first snow of the season.

Woohoo... and thankful that we seem to have made it thru the bomb cyclone storm ok, it was wild last night but again I think the mountains over here protected us. The folks east of Seattle, who are in the foothills of that mountain range, got hit really hard and a lot of folks aren't working today due to power outages and no internet.

Woohoo... I've now gone two weeks without buying anything from Amazon, altho I had a credit, so I ordered hand warmers yesterday to take to the warming center in town.

I am glad you made it through last night ok. When I heard about it this morning I was thinking of you.

Thankful for a bit of a break in the weather, next up is a parade of atmospheric rivers and we've got rain forecast for the next five or so days.

Also, thankful that one of the IG people I follow is having a Zoom gathering in a couple weeks to talk about how to move to France. She and her family moved there a while back and have been restoring an old house, and she said they've been getting so many questions about how to do it that they've put this together. Really looking forward to it.

I think we've started our early winter days! It was cold and windy today - really felt like winter was coming on!

Sounds like a great gathering - I've never heard of IG people doing something like that!

Today I'm thankful for my job - I worry every month about our board meetings and they typically end up going very well. I worry about the question(s) that I can't anticipate. Our directors are all very kind people and I've never had a problem with any of them - for that I'm very thankful!

Thankful for the rain we finally got Thursday. It wasn't fun to drive in, but we needed it.

No big plans for the weekend proper, but DH is off next week, so we'll probably do a local adventure Monday or Tuesday when places are less crowded.

I am Thankful for my job. They are so understanding and caring. They ask me how DD is doing all the time and they are very accommodating with all the time I have missed for her appointments and my bit of absent mindedness lately. I have gotten the big stuff done but have been forgetting the very minor things like putting the schedule together for who is covering our shared email. No big deal. I will just cover until I get this done. But little things like this is what I am forgetting.

For Thanksgiving I'm taking a roasted acorn squash and burrata dish, but the only burrata I could find in town was near its expiration date. Luckily, I have a light schedule today so I'm going to sign-off early and make a run to the fancy grocery store 45 minutes away. Hopefully I'll get there before the after-work crowd and get home before it gets too dark.

I'm also going to be taking little pumpkin pies and just recently saw some tips for baking the best pumpkin pie that I'd not seen before - whip the pumpkin puree instead of just stirring to blend and cook the filling for a bit on the stove before putting it in the pie crust and in the oven. Has anyone ever done either of these? I'm looking forward to trying both.

Other than that, I think my Niece is going to come over for some crafting and I'll be doing more of the organizing and purging.

I usually use a whisk when I am mixing the filling. I don't really see a difference. I did make a pumpkin pie from scratch once, before I had kids. It is a lot of for my husband to say it tasted the same as the can. I haven't made it fresh since.

Tomorrow DD and I are hanging out with our friends with the twins. It is going to be a girls day. It should be a lot fun. I have no clue what we are doing yet but will be going somewhere fun that we all will like doing. Other then that we are just chilling. DH and I are off next week so we might do something fun with just the two of us. We do have to take DD to get blood work down at the main campus on Monday and then we are free the rest of the week, except for Thanksgiving. I am looking forward to a break from work.
