DH and I took our DD (11) and DS (13) to Disney World for the first time this past July 2010. We had the most amazing experience at Animal Kingdom, thanks to CM Susan. We were exiting Kilimanjaro Safaris when Susan asked us if we wanted a backstage tour. I had read about the tours and knew they cost extra, so I asked what the charge would be. She said, "Free!" I think she picked us because we were wearing matching Mickey Mouse shirts ($5 from the Disney Outlet) and our kids looked the right ages (12 and up). She took us down a path to a white minibus. We were driven across the railroad tracks to a gated animal pen area. There we were met by a zoo keeper who let us hold an ostrich egg (very heavy), see the food the animals ate, and observe some baby ibexes and baby warthogs. We also got to see the other lion pair up close. She explained how they call the animals in at night, how they take urine samples, how they give them medicine, and how she became an animal keeper. The whole tour lasted about an hour and we were the only people on it! At the end, we were given AK key chains and stickers. I'm not sure why we were given this tour, but we LOVED it! Thank you, CM Susan, for picking us!!!!!
