Thank goodness for the 'Ignore' option here on the DIS

Seems to me since the debate board was closed the "meanies" are coming here and that is a shame.

Just want to point out that there seems to be this line of thinking that those who posted on the DB were not CB "material" and were mean people. I posted regularly on the DB and hardly conisder myslef a "meanie" (usually! :) )

I am proud of myself though as I even held myself back and didn't post on the "abortion/adoption" thread as I have very, very, very strong opinions regarding the same (as many DB frequenters know)

Anyway, point is....please quit referring to debate board posters as "meanies" and such like they are some other species......most are regular CB posters, too.

First off I have had to use the ignore feature for a certain in my opinion sicko poster!!

But as far as Dan being wrong in posting this??? I think he has all the right to post his feelings!!!
Guess what Dan is human and may need to get things off his chest also!!! He is not just zipedeedooda Dan!!!!! Give him a break!! you know what he would be the FIRST to post or pm if you had something sad or hurtful happen to you!!!!! He ist he most thoughtful person on the Dis IMHO!!!!!!!!!
And if this offends anyone use your ignore feature please!!!!!

I didn't know that about the filtering. I have learned something from this thread. Thanks! (It may keep me out of trouble, right MaryJo?! LOL)

I have used the ignore feature in the past. It was great!

Having received a questionable PM before, I think this warning from Dan is a good one. Sometimes you might feel like you're the only one who has received something and aren't. It lets you know that there is a sicko on the loose. Of course there are always those who may enjoy the attention too. But at least you may know that you aren't the "only" one being PMed and it is a game--you aren't special.

 Actually, I have a few people on ignore. And they've been there a loooooooooooooooong time!

Well said!
::yes::

I think that Dan had every right to start this thread and share his feelings. I also think that if someone else had started it - particularly one of my fellow DB meanies - it would have been locked pages ago.

having not known dan as long as some others here, and not knowiing who he ignored, I personally feel that if dan has ignored them then they probably needed to be ignored . AAs far as i have seen dan is the most level headed common sensical person i have met online, and i've been online for the last 6 years in some sort of chat or bb situation. i have over 300 ppl on my yahoo list, around 200 on msn, and i would like to think that if someone as nice, polite, stand up as dan murphy should be able to post anything he wants pretty much and be suppoorted. count me amongst dans supporters ,

Im not trying to mean to you or attack sorry if it sounds like it, Im just defending Dan.
Dan was not trying to start a debate or fight he was just trying to let other know that he was glad there was an ignore feature they may not know of.
It may sound presumptuous of me to say but I do not think Dan thougth he was making any kind of Debate or angry statement when he made this post.
Dan is very protective and father like (hope thats ok Dan:D )
He is probably sick of hearing of a certain weirdo pm'ing people on this family board~!! This is not an adult board this is a family board sick fetishes are not welcome~!~~!
So if you are not this person then relax and go on with your fun here on the Dis.

I would agree with that.

As a newbie to the DIS I appreciated Dan's information.

Thank you Dan Murphy. I may just add my name to your Fan Club.

Hear Hear! Like I've said, while many of us DB'ers had our share of disagreement and heated arguments, I think you are seeing the the lot of us, regardless of our strongly held opinions, have the utmost respect and compassion for each other. Now, I may be being presumptuous, but I would venture to bet that we would all band together to stick up for each other and help each other out if anyone was in need. So, to interpret heated arguments and violent disagreements as us being "meanies" is to not uderstand our "club?", if you will. I think you are seeing how much of a bond we had since the closing of the DB. We're here now and will do our best to assimilate.

Much like a political exile does that comes to the US. :smooth:

Maybe you are right in your assumption but though there are many posters on the CB who love Dan, I have been under a different POV from the powers that be. So, I disagree with your assumption. And I also don't think all the DBers are meanies. LOL

Wow. Now this is bad. Really bad. You are the kindest soul I know Dan Murphy. Nobody better've hurt you. :( Now you've got me wonderin...whooooooo is this. I know, you don't have to tell me. But I sure am sitting here wonderin. You just don't go around hurtin Dan Murphy. No way, no how.

If you don't like the thread.... don't read it.

If you really don't like the thread..... don't post... that just keeps it on page one.

I am in the dark as usual because RL has cut down on my DIS time - but I just don't see what the big deal is about this particular thread.

I have seen many threads that I feel are inappropriate, rude, or just plain silly - if I read them before realizing that - then that is what the back button is for!

I have used the ignore feature on occasion, and I must say it makes me laugh out loud when the PM's come flowing in when you take them off!!!!!:p

For the second time since I have been here on the DIS, I am using the Add XXX poster to Your Ignore List. Back some time ago, I used it for a clod, who thankfully, after getting the boot numerous times, is now, as far as I know, gone. (Thanks, Pete and WM's)

And now, another, who, though not quite as mean and hurtful as the other guy, is nonetheless relentless in his/her badgering of people here, trolling. There are a handful of posters who, in practice, I ignore, though just skipping over their threads or posts, their not being mean or hurtful, but rather mostly just crude. Most often that other type, the mean and hurtful, gets the quick boot. But this one seems to be around, like dog **** on your shoes.

Thanks that the 'Ignore' is an option here on the DIS, so useful when needed.

As for me saying whom I ignore, I have not said. I said I am using it, and passing on the fact that it is here, and how to use it, for those who might want to, period.

I was not alerting the entire DIS community of my placing someone on ignore, but rather simply posting that it is a great feature, (no different than if I was telling people I discovered how to use the Enhanced Mode of the vB Code, am using it, enjoying it, are you aware of it, maybe you might want to use it. Don't be such an alarmist, trishy, you sound silly.

Silly, silly, goose I may be, I guess, Dan. However, I took your initial post/start of this thread to be a direct hit on a Dis poster(s). Whether deserving or not, I'm not questioning. You say in your subsequent post you are trying to give Dis'rs a lesson in Ignore Feature 101. I don't have a problem with that, if that's what it is. The problem I have is your starting the thread with name-calling and then trying to disguise it as a lesson on Posting Features. I am just one of many who enjoyed and respected your Ronald Reagan thread and could, without any hand-holding, ignore any posters if I felt they were out of line. I just felt this thread was poorly timed and poorly worded. Seems to me a lesson on the Ignore Feature would be better suited on the Tech Board or just worded so as not to hurt anyone's feelings unintentionally (as you've stated, this was not your intent). It's quite obvious the identity of the poster you were referring to since you requested the mods close that thread because of him. I find it interesting that you have such a following. I.e., the many threads of the "You the man, Dan!" type that follow any post that may be perceived as negative towards you personally. :p

Shake hands, call it a truce, and respect the fact that a great man in history died yesterday and that 60 years ago thousands of brave souls perished to protect our freedoms. Alarmist, I'm not. Respectful of others - yes, I'd like to think so. That is why I suggested this thread should end.

NOWHERE did I write that ALL debate boarders were "meanies" and I do not appreciate the assumption that I did. I used to post on the debate board quite a bit and I do not consider myself or the majority of db/cb posters "meanies". The few I am referring to know who they are as well as most of the cb if they have been posting in the last couple of weeks. Yes things can get heated even on the cb but the way some things have turned lately are because of a FEW bullies. I don't think I need to spell out their names because MOST people are aware of who these bullies are.Ther is SO MUCH more I want to say but I will refrain from doing so.

Blah, Blah, Blah!! Leave Dan alone, obviously you don't know his worth here on the boards. Respectful of him, you are NOT!
