Thank goodness for the 'Ignore' option here on the DIS

gotta love "ignore"

I don't use it much but it does make the DIS a much nicer place! :D

In that regard, I have had a number of female posters here recently ask me about strange (sort of on the sicko side) PM's coming from one poster. Unrelated posters, but a common element in the PM's. Doing a search of that poster on the board, you could VERY easily see a pattern there, in line with the PM's. Weirdo. You just have to be alert, eyes and ears open.

Nobody sent me any PM's. :confused:

Is that a good thing?

I used it once, years ago. I was a CB mod at that time, and didn't feel like I could be neutral as far as one person was concerned, so I put that person on ignore. When I regained my composure I took them off ignore and haven't used it since. Its a nice feature to have for those times where the back button just won't do.

I also will go out on a limb and say that I don't think this thread is the place to speculate about who is on who's ignore, or who is sending who weird PMs. These type of threads always lead to hurt feelings and while I know that isn't Dan's intentions, I'd hate to see this one go down the same road. :(

Dan is one of the most tolerant people I know. I can only imagine what they must have done to get on his "pay no mind" list:earseek:

Thank GOODNESS that the DIS righteous are SAFE!! :rolleyes:

Three cheers for the morality police:

Hip hip HOORAY

Hip hip HOORAY

Hip hip HOORAY!!

(BTW, Dan, I am sure that you are aware that using asterisks to get around the word filter (reference dog **** on the shoes) is a BANNABLE offense.

Not to worry, I am sure that the masses whom you have bamboozled into thinking that you are without sin wouldn't allow such a travesty to occur.)

I for one am glad Dan reminded me of this feature. Also, "knowing" Dan for 4 years here on the DIS (when the new board was opened up here - not sure exactly how long ago that was - I lost my old count or I would have been way up there with post counts), but anyways, I know Dan would not have posted this unless he thought it was necessary. Dan has always been a very nice, considerate person. He is definately not one to post something just to cause trouble.

Is he the DIS police patrol - well I dont think so,,,,,, but I could think of no other that would definately fit the bill perfectly. He is fair, honest and I would trust his opinion.:)

Boston Tea Party,

I would of chosen to either PM or email you my feelings, however, you have chosen not to receive either. :rolleyes:

I am doing my best to remember that I am a LADY and do not use the language that is currently running through my mind.

Dan had no intention to be malicious with this post. It was simply to inform some others of a feature we might not be aware of (I, for one, after 5 years did not realize that option was there!). It is truly a shame that others out there have nothing better to do with their time that to try to stir up trouble. I am glad to have a 'heads up' that there is someone out there who is sending questionable PM's....I have a daughter who posts here and believe me, you would not want to see ME if she would receive one of them!! Now, if you consider the "morality police" to be such a horrible thing, you really should reconsider posting on these boards. This is a family place...I am grateful for it to be a kind caring community and am thankful to have a "heads up" if things aren't right in the neighborhood.

::yes::

Thank you Dan! You ARE such a good guy and I wish we lived closer to one another. I am thankful to have a person like yourself here on the DIS.

Seems to me since the debate board was closed the "meanies" are coming here and that is a shame.

Dan...I am sorry your wonderful tribute about (fmr) President Reagan was messed up by certain individuals. It was touching and such a shame for it to end up being closed (your request) because of a couple of bickering idiots.

Oh geesh, how did you get back in? :(

*Okay, here's my edit since you aren't who I thought. *

My take on it all, because I am aware of what happened. I'm sure Dan was upset, and while I don't agree that this thread should have been posted, I fully understand why it was. I've not been on this board for 4 years, but I've seen many of you say Dan has been. I've also seen threads that people post to thank him for his contribution to the board here. Is it fair of anyone to attack someone for doing something they didn't feel he should be doing when he's maybe having a bad day? I know he was pretty upset and I understand why he was upset too, because it just wasn't the time or place. I know the thread I'm speaking of was not the 1st encounter, but it's the one that was so upsetting. Think about his contribultion here and cut him a little slack! My opinion only!

Yup another victim of a PM from the sicko!

I forgot about Ignore! Glad to know I wasn't alone!

::yes::

Actually, I'll take that back! I see from a search of your posts, BTP, that you have come to believe in God! I'm truly happy for you. I'm sure that will change your life for the better in so many ways! What an awesome change!!

BTW, haven't used the ignore feature for a long time. I'm so glad about that!

*And here is my next edit* Since you aren't who I thought.

BTW, what on earth does "righteous and morality police" and the ignore feature have to do with one another? :rolleyes:

And as far as God goes, the Bible has clear definitions on the righteous and the immoral.

Sheila

It is not a fun place to post here anymore since the debate board was closed, everytime you post something someone is there jumping at every word you post....

Without a doubt, this thread is controversial. I don't think it's necessary to alert the entire dis coomunity about one's personal choice to put a user on ignore. Some of us know exactly what Dan's talking about and I think that fact is rude.

I would like to request the WM close this thread. It's hurtful and not in good taste, especially on a day like today. :(

Very well said Trishy! ::yes::

Actually, if you spell out the whole word, the filter turns it into asterisks. Spelling the first two letters, inserting an asterisk, then spelling the next two letters, in an attempt to have your word seen, is what is bannable.

I'll try to respond to a few naysayers here...

First, I do think yourtravelpro summed it up quite well, and I say, yeah, that's it. As for me saying whom I ignore, I have not said. I said I am using it, and passing on the fact that it is here, and how to use it, for those who might want to, period.

From reading here, it would appear my assumption was correct, people might like to use the feature (a good one), but either were not aware it was available in the first place, or possibly how to use it, if they knew it was there. If some can now use it, to make their time on the DIS more enjoyable (I think that is probably why it is there), then that is great, I am glad I passed on the tip.

I was not alerting the entire DIS community of my placing someone on ignore, but rather simply posting that it is a great feature, (no different than if I was telling people I discovered how to use the Enhanced Mode of the vB Code, am using it, enjoying it, are you aware of it, maybe you might want to use it. Don't be such an alarmist, trishy, you sound silly.

Snoop, the 'hurt feelings' I think, are repetitive ones from the usual group. But I know what you are saying.

BTP or JTB, I too honestly thought you were gone. But, just so you are driving in the correct lane here, know well that the filter's purpose is to, in fact, filter certain words, so if I happen to say dog **** and it filters it, I have not bypassed it, but rather have allowed it to function properly, thereby, staying within the guidelines of not bypassing the filter, which true, is bannable. As far as being without sin, not here. I was baptized, not by JTB, but I was, long ago, don't know the guys name. And still I sin, probably daily. I'm working on it though.

As for my 'add-on' post, that being about a sleazeball sending out suggestive, requestive PM's to ladies here, that came to me to add as I was explaining about ignore. I had recalled that within the past week or so I had been asked about this guy and his PM's, by, I think, four different ladies. I guess they felt comfortable enough with me to ask me, and for that I thank them. And with this thread tonight, two more have asked me, a total of six, all the same, all by the same guy. Now, in RL, if that were going on in my neighborhood, some guy asking ladies to do weird things, (actually, that probably is against the law in RL, but I guess not on the Net), I would probably be inclined to pass on the word to those who might not be aware that there has been other incidences, if they themselves were appoached, and to please be careful, and maybe not reply or respond to those requests, and possibly encouraging such behavior to continue. In all cases I have told the ladies I thought it strange (apparently they did too, they asked me), but to do what they thought correct for them. In our town, we call it 'Neighborhood Watch'. We have signs that warn those who might want to prey on people in our neighborhood that we, as friends and neighbors, do in fact, look out for one another. Almost like family.

All in all, a few naysayers, they will always be there. But, it does seem like some people did learn a few new things from this thread, and for that I am happy. If a few of you are more frustrated by me, too bad, ignore me.

My feelings exactly Trishy. :o

Haven't read this whole thread because I'm way too tired too, but what is the ignore feature, and how does it work?

I don't know about anyone else, but most of the threads are a great source of entertainment! :yo-yo:
