Just click on a person's profile icon, at the bottom of it are two links, Add to Buddy or Add to Ignore lists. Click Ignore. If you want to edit at some point, go to your user CP and there are links at the top of it to edit either buddy or ignore. The Ignored does not know he/she is ignored, same as with Buddy. You do not get PM's nor emails from the ignored, they do not get bounced back. On the board, you see as Jeanny said. You have the opportunity to click and review an ignored person's post, if you care to, sort of like checking the bottom of your shoes. On the other hand, I have seen some use the buddy list as a stalking list. The 'person' (loosely said) whom I ignored in the past, did use the buddy list to stalk people here.

Remember, though the DIS is almost 100% nice, very close, there are some weirdos out there. In that regard, I have had a number of female posters here recently ask me about strange (sort of on the sicko side) PM's coming from one poster. Unrelated posters, but a common element in the PM's. Doing a search of that poster on the board, you could VERY easily see a pattern there, in line with the PM's. Weirdo. You just have to be alert, eyes and ears open.

Edited to add for Carl. I may be easy going (tell that one to Marie, LOL :)), but some things I won't put up with.

why post this if to not stir up controversy?

I thought you were better than that Dan :(

LOL! Well, I know it's not me that offended you! I feel better. But, yucko to this person!

Ok..I am going to do some profile checking...thanks for the advice and all the info.

Edited to Add: Boy, am I paraniod or what?:p

I dont think his intent was to "stir up controversy".

I am sorry if Dan is having a problem. That said, I never even knew I had that option! Now I do and I know how to do it, so his post is informative, not controversial.

I find this very worry-some. If I knew there was a "sicko" in my neighborhood i wouldn't just put him on "ignore" , i'd let the neighbors know and if necessary alert the authorities. Your post indicates a perverse person PMing females on the DIS. I'm now very worried.....or are you just exaggerating?

ITA, Tink! When it comes to stirring up controversy, Dan's name is not one that comes to mind!

I also believe this post will be very informational for some people on the board who didn't realize that the "ignore" button even existed.

S, that person, if you read my post, the sicko', is not on my 'ignore'. By my posting, I think I have let the 'neighbors' know, and the authorities do know, but, just like in RL, not much can be done. Being a 'sicko', your term, a 'weirdo', mine, though similar in meaning, is not necessarily 'against the law'. Being informed of the person, as I have done does in fact make good sense. I stated a fact, whether that worries you or not, that is your business.

02, I think being informative is not stirring up controversy. If you find my post/s controversial, put me on ignore.

I am confused:confused: as Usual, but, I know Dan would not complain if it weren't for a reason. Thanks for the info Dan, I have never had to use the "ignore feature" I just ignore the poster's posts.:p

Sometime's it is your only option, sad but true. Danny

I'm wondering if the PMer you are talking about is the same one who sent me an odd PM...

My take on this whole thread....

I think we all know Dan well enough on here to know that it would have to take a lot to annoy him. Well, apparently someone did. He's happy that all he has to do is put the person on ignore and there you have it, this person can no longer annoy him. Well, in doing this, he probably thought to himself, if this person is annoying him, he could just imagine how much he must be annoying others who don't have as much tolerance as he does. Therefore, he was nice enough to suggest an easy remedy to this that probably a lot of us weren't aware of.

So, there you have it, Dan Murphy to the rescue again!!

I take it you don't believe in following your own advice.

Frankly, I don't understand the need to publicly post that you've put someone on ignore either.

I thought you were better than that Dan :(

I for one am very glad he posted this...I was not aware I could put any person on ignore. I am very glad to know this and will be adding a person or two in the past week here on ignore!

I relize it was wrong for me to post what I did to O2bBarbie so I sent her a PM and said I was sorry:(

Without a doubt, this thread is controversial. I don't think it's necessary to alert the entire dis coomunity about one's personal choice to put a user on ignore. Some of us know exactly what Dan's talking about and I think that fact is rude.

I would like to request the WM close this thread. It's hurtful and not in good taste, especially on a day like today. :(
