Texas GOP wants to send Homosexuals (and their helpers) to prison.

I hate articles like this because they always paint the entire state of Texas and all of it's inhabitants like backwoods, redneck, right wing nutjobs, which is not the case. I love the title. "First Uganda, Now Texas Wants To At Least Imprison Homosexuals For Being, Well, Gay". *sigh* We're being compared to Uganda and Hitler too.

Like every other state in the nation, we're full of these nut jobs. We have some crazy laws, just like other states. California has Prop 8. Arizona has their new immigration laws. The list goes on and on.

Our sodomy laws (we're not the only state that has anti-sodomy laws) which were repealed back in 2003 I think, are under attack again. We expect this from that local group of nut jobs. I'm surprised they waited this long.

It's why Steven and I joined the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence here in Dallas. We wanted a way to voice our opinion, change minds, make a difference, let our voices be heard as loud as possible. Hopefully we can do that in whatever capacity we can.

The majority of the larger cities in Texas are primarily Democratic. It's the outlaying areas that vote these nut jobs into office unfortunately and for some reason, we focus on Texas a whole being a horrible place to live, rather than focusing on the jerks in office and the jerks that put them there.

I just have to defend the state that I now call home. We may not be perfect, but I wouldn't live here if it was unbearable and were something like Uganda or like living in 1930's Nazi Germany.

Very well put Z. We recently had a married woman charged with Indecent exposure and adultery in one of the outlying towns for having sex on a picnic table in a park with a man. Now, I'll take the indecent exposure, but adultery? that scared me a little bit.

You're right, we sometimes forget the good. Our brothers and sisters are living in these states. People ask how some of us can live in New York because of the taxes. It is absolutely ridiculous, but it's home and I like it here.

Thanks hon.

After researching all of the articles and news that's going on about this, what happened is the GOP released their 2010 Platform. Each and every single year, it states the same thing. It's not like any of this is news, it comes up every year about how they want to treat us and what laws they want to get repealed, etc. For some reason, this year the web is going nuts with it. Where were they last year? lol

Not sure why this is suddenly an issue or all over the blogs. It is virtually identical to the 2004, 2006 & 2008 platforms and hasn't changed much from the 2000 and 2002 platforms and I haven't seen or heard of any crazy laws being passed in TX in the last 10 years.

25 page platform documents are only relevant to the overly zealous insiders who write it, few other people pay attention to it as evidenced by the sudden, breathless panic over it now as opposed to the past. I suspect it has more to do with current flagging in the polls by Democrats and this is an attempt to energize the base.

It wouldn't be very nice to lock our lesbian sheriff up in her own jail, would it?

Besides, big cities like this have WAAAAAYYYY too many other things to worry about to go around gathering up "the gays". Apparently our police chief's son gunned down an officer in a neighboring city the other day. With an assault rifle or some such thing. Trust me, our law enforcement personnel have bigger problems than law abiding gay citizens going about their business.

Don't get me wrong, I am a staunch supporter of gay rights and I certainly don't want to see my friends treated like criminals. My point is that there are too many other things going on that will prevent this agenda from going much further.
