Testing On-Line Reservations for DVC Website

Make us proud, Regina, and don't forget to report back here after you get back!

I use to test the website for a big airline. Companies can do it in-house or vendor it out. Sometimes there are US companies and sometimes the work is done overseas. They have testing tools as well to perform these functions. Also they test load and performance by simulating the number of expected users logging in, and performing certain transactions that users always perform.
You create a simulation of normal web traffic To really perform this however I don't see how you can actually do it in a live or production environment using live data. You would have to go to a test environment and really create data like enrolling, updating profiles or changing passwords or checking on reservations maybe creating reservations that sort of thing. You would simulate that for a lot of people at the same time.
You would have monitors set up so you know how long it takes a page to display or if your login failed and if you get a blank page or if the page just hangs.
Anyway sorry to geek out but but this doesn't sound like anything really disciplined. Maybe it just to get user feedback on a new look and feel of the site. It is important to have user opinions as well and I tend to think that must be where they are going with this.

It's called user acceptance testing.

It is typically near the end of the products development cycle and basically tries to gauge how well the user likes or can use the system.

Before I entered my member # of any personal info on the test website I would call DVC myself and confirm this is the real deal. . . just to be on the safe side. .

I believe they are in the final part too. I asked when they called if this was something that was going to be running soon, since I am going to be making ressies in the next few months. The guy who called said they are trying and think it will be available by then.

Anyone actually get called back to set appt for testing? Since they said 9th or 10th of this month.

I have not heard back from them yet. :confused3 And my work schedule is starting to fill up so it would be nice to hear from them.

My schedule is filling up too. I guess I am going to go ahead and make appts that day for work. I just figured I missed their call since everything has been hetic here.

I haven't been contacted yet either. That's why I am checked this thread tonight. Oh well, I will let you know if I hear anything.

I hope this was legit and not some sort of third party fishing attempt... Seems weird that many people reporting here haven't heard more back from them. But I'm probably being paranoid after reading about the recent reports of fraudulent calls to DVC members and warning from DVC! However, looks like at least kmcrosby's call looked legit from caller ID, so that's good.

Sounds to me like the IT team has things "stalled" yet again. I have to say I doubt I'm going to trust that method of booking if and when they get it up and running for a long time!

My caller id also said Disney Vacation Club.
The person on the other end also offered to help with my membership.
I figure that they ran into a delay and will re-contact us later or that they already have enough test subjects; however, if that were true, it seems that at least one of us would have gotten to go.

Or maybe they were just trying to determine which members are on the DIS boards......:rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2:

There is at least one report on another website (not the DIS) from a member who attended one of the testing sessions earlier today.

He said he was impressed., even though he was prepared to be very critical. He also said he signed a confidentiality agreement so he really couldn't divulge too many details. Sounds like they built some kind of user-friendly front end system that interfaces with the actual reservation system.

My guess is that those who go to the annual meetings will hear more about it at that time if it is anywhere near ready to implement.

LOL, Carol! We have been hearing about the promise of internet booking at annual meetings for at least 6 years now! I'm not holding my breath, and besides, they can't even tell us the time and place of the meeting, and it's only a month away!

Internet booking of rooms. Wow, and it's only 2010:rotfl2:

Critical ? I think I know who you're talking about :lmao:

I contacted DVC two days ago to check. They verified everything; checked my name and said that they would let the company know that I was still interested. I still haven't heard anything yet.
I am beginning to think that they have enough people already and don't need anymore. Oh well, it was nice getting asked.
