I am a 911 Dispatcher for the Terre Haute Police and Fire Department, in Terre Haute, IN. On the morning of September 30 at 0204am, we sent out our fire stations on a structure fire, not knowing we were going to lose one of our own that night.
Captain Ralph Stott passed away shortly after marking on scene and 2 other of our Fire Men were also injured. I can still think of everything that was said on the radios that night while I was working. Have you ever heard the saying people can here in your voice when there is something wrong? Well in dispatching not only the police/fire can tell when we have a "hot" call, but other dispatchers can tell also. That night was definetley one of those nights. They had a very nice funeral/visitation today also today marked his 24th year Anniversary with the Terre Haute Fire Department.
Captain Stott was a funny guy, I remembered last week he told me "no-one is perfect, so don't worry about you sending us out of our district on a call "
I laughed at him. Everytime he would go enroute to a call, we would start laughing because he had a gruff ole voice and it sounded as if he was so mean.... but that was just Capt Stott.
Please throw some pixie dust his family and to the Terre Haute Fire Deparment as well.
