We have a vacation home that is under a termite bond. From what I understand that bond is only good for 5 or 10 years and then I'll have to get it rebonded. (I thought they were good a lot longer than that and I'll be looking at my termite bond paperwork). To get it rebonded, they have to chemically treat the foundation as it was originally done. Anyway, today, the pest control place tried to upsell me to a termite baiting system where these cylinders are buried at ground level every 8 feet around the home. Anyone ever hear of this system? Is this worth it? And most importantly, does it work better than treating the foundation? I don't necessarily care about the environment argument of chemicals being pumped into the ground. I've had a house that had termite damage. It wasn't pretty, a lot of repair work needed to be done, and I never want to have to deal with that again if I can avoid it.

My home was built with a termite bond. After doing research, I found that having the bond was not really sufficient in this area. In Florida, it isn't a matter of if you will get termites...it's when. I went with the Sentricon system and have been very happy with it. I've lived in my house a little less than five years. I've already had termites in the traps twice. It is very easy to get rid of them at that point. Once they infiltrate the foundation of the house, it is not so easy and can be very expensive.

That's what he called it, Sentricon! Ok - good. It worked for you...that's good to hear. They're offering to move us to that system for $298 instead of a full retreatment/rebonding when the bond runs out (which can get costly from what I understand not to mention all the outside near-foundation drilling they have to do).
