Tequila, Dole Whips & Tonga Toast: Celebrating 50 years! Read all about it!

We got to ride the trolley twice on our last trip, and both times the Dapper Dans joined us! In fact, the guy in green was one of them. It would have been great to see their whole show, but it was fun to have them sing as we clopped down Main St. to the castle.

Thanks for the perfect idea of what I want for my 50th! Maybe I can ask for it a few years early! :)

Hi Twiddles, doing a great job and wanted to say we had a similar situation with the holiday. Thanksgiving was allways a friggin nightmare starting with my mom's brother, his birthday was nov. 22, mom was next on the 25th, followed by mine the 26th, and ending with my folks anniversary on the 27th. And I can guarantee that to this day when my wife Smidgy asks me what I want for my birthday dinner the answer is NOT going to be "Gee, a turkey dinner sounds good."

:rotfl2: Too funny, no I imagine turkey would not be on your list of birthday dinners but I'm guessing it's happened once or twice? My aunt's b-day is same as your parents anniversary, last year her bday fell on Thanksgiving :goodvibes

It does get buzy at our house for our birthdays & anniversary week - expensive too having all those parties in one week!

Silly me, I forgot they were called the Dapper Dans :goodvibes I'm glad you posted their official name, I thought they were the Main St. barbershop quartet :rolleyes1 They are cute, that must've been fun having them seranaide you down Main st! I think we've only rode the trolley once, it just happened to be at the castle on our way out when DS was 4 or 6. Usually we're too impatient to wait

A proper 50th birthday celebration And the second of the double 4-somes

It was a great afternoon of swimming & everyone had indulged their favorite vacation passtime, DH & I's being several adult beverages (afterall, there are none to be found at MK  I think that's why it's his least favorite park :lmao: ) and DS had spent a few hours laying around with his electronic game & watching TV.

All rested, showered & dressed it was time to head back to the Magic Kingdom in my case, and for the first time that day for DH & DS. We had about 2.5 hours before our dinner reservations. Before heading out the door, I decided to wear my Happy Birthday pin.

As had been the case most of the week, we didn't wait long for a bus. I have to say the bus service at ASMusic this week had been great. I could think of only 2 times when we really had to wait on a bus but today wasn't one of them.

We entered the MK & headed down Main St. I was walking slower than usual, knowing this was our last night. My guys seemed to feel the same because they seemed content with the slow pace. Checking the board at the end of the street I think I recalled there were no more FP's left for Space Mtn so I was glad I had treked over that way earlier to pick one up for DS. I had something in mind for DH & I while he rode but first, I wanted to go back to check out Monsters Inc. laugh club.

The only other time we experienced this was back in 2008 during EMH late hours. DH did not want to be there but I coaxed him into it & he was grouchy the entire time. As luck would have it, we timed it perfectly to be in the queue area, what we know as "the show before the show" area right after the last group must have entered the theatre. And there we had stood, tired with no place to sit, about 1am waiting for what seemed eternity & DH was grouchy, grouchy, grouchy. It was hard to enjoy the show after going back & forth with him over him threatening walking out of the waiting area.

So having to erase that memeory :rotfl: we were going to go again. This time we WILL have a Norman Rockwell experience :rolleyes1 So we turn towards tomorrowland & the conversation went something like this:

DS: Can I ride SM now?

ME: First I want you to get us all FP's for Buzz lightyear.

DS: Oh, okay, good, because I'm going to beat both of you this round.

DH: Nope, I ruled over at that other place & I'm holding my title.

DS: Dad, you just got lucky that day & besides, Toy Story Mania has games like old people used to play when they were kids, that would be you, so you will not be able to keep up here since it moves too fast for an old geezer like you.

ME: Excuse me, but I am queen at Buzz - I put both of you to shame & we all know it.

DS: Ain't gonna happen this time :woohoo:

DH & I wait in front of laugh club while DS goes next door to get our Buzz lightyear FP's. To my delight, it is a short wait. We enter the Monsters Inc. comedy club & stand in the queue area.

DH: Oh, I remember this place

ME: Do you?

DH: Yeah, this is that place you brought me at 1 in the morning & I wanted to leave

ME: You were a grouch

DH: Well DW, any man would be a grouch at 1 in the freggin morning having to stand in a room doing nothing

DS: Dad, it's the show before the show

DH: See, that's what I don't like. I don't want to have to sit in a "show before the show" just let us get into the show

DS: Dad, haven't you been paying attention ALL week  That's what they do here, they put you in different areas until you can get in. It's better than just standing around waiting to see some lame show

ME: Who you calling a lame show

DS: Mom, really. I'm just going in here cause you want me to, you know I don't like doing all this extra junk you're always making dad & I do, I like riding the coasters.

ME: humpf

I was glad to see the show before the show start so we could end this conversation. ANyway, in the preshow, ROZ likes to show her favorite scenes of Mike. Now me, I love corny stuff but even a grouch & an impatient teen can appreciate Roz's sense of humor in the preshow.

I heard them both laughing, maybe snorting, during the preshow.

Yep, just what I thought.

They didn't want to admit it WAS funny.

So anyway, we now file into the theater. We did not sit near the center isle with the lights but that was okay - I think that's where they "pick on" people since it's easier for a CM to get to them with the mike.

Everyone agreed "That guy" was a hoot. Our "that guy" could not have acted less interested in the show, sitting back with his arms folded, if he had tried. What was more funny, his little boy was looking soooo happy in the background every time they zoomed on the guy. I think at first he didn't understand the extent to him being teased cause all through the show, same expression. FINALLY about the end to the show he couldn't keep the stoic look anymore & started grinning.

We were all smiling as we walked out. DS even admitted he didn't remember it being that funny last time we were there.

Hmmm, it is funny how much more enjoyable things are when you're rested & not grouchy..... :rolleyes1 don't go there.....

Okay, it was time for Buzz lightyear! To DS's utter disgust & dismay, the QUEEN won again!

I have never been on Stitch's escape. Having read on DISboards how awful it was I just never bothered. However, DH finds disgusting things amusing so what better way to pass the time while DS uses his FP for Space Mtn.

So DH & I head over, the wait is only 5 minutes. We're let in the building immediately for

popcorn::

of course, the show before the show! DH just looks at me. Anyway, we watch the TV screen to hear about the background. Shortly we're lead into the other "preshow" where the guy is all upset over not being cleared for security to transport any risk over a 1 or 2. Then of course, suddenly he is thrust into a mission to transport a "5" risk & we're led like cattle into the final area.

We enter this round spaceship looking area & I can see it has not changed one bit since the alien encounter or the Mars encounter even before that - I just don't remember what they are called.

So I find us a spot in the front row. It's chilly, dank & wet. We sit down & of course in the midst of pulling down the shoulder restrainsts, DH gives me this look like "what the horsehockeys is this" but asks if this thing is going to move. I assure him not but he doesn't look convinsed.

ME: It's just so you don't escape from your disgusting surroundings

DH; You sure we won't be moving

ME: I promise

So anyway, everyone is all strapped in & I do the Un-disney like thing again :sad2: I put my feet up & lean forward so my neck is not up against the chair. But I did do it in the dark so nobody saw me do it, including my DH!

Then I listen to all the screaming & hope the "belches" don't get all over me. DH is howling with laughter. When the lights come up he has water streaked in his shirt.

DH: That was hilarious. I liked that one :lmao:

ME: Well, now I can say I've been there, done that

DH: Did you feel something breath on your neck?

ME: :rolleyes1

We realize after exiting we're all the way over by Cosmic Rays. We walk back to meet DS who was waiting for us by laugh comedy. It's time to head over to dinner so we exit tomorrowland.

Here is where we end up
WDW2010312.jpg

We put our name in & as always when we dine at the Crystal Palace, we're told there will be a wait so they hand us a beeper. I take this opportunity to take pictures with the castle in the background

Here is DH looking kinda silly
WDW2010308.jpg

DS took this picture of us
WDW2010309.jpg

They were late seating us, but when we finally got to our table, there were little "Mickey" confetti spread all over it which gave it a festive look. I looked at the other tables & ours was the only one with it :confused3

Then our waiter came over & wished me :bday:

Aww, now that was nice :lovestruc

So we started enjoying the buffet. It wasn't long before saw our second double 4-some of the day, by now you've probably guessed it was Pooh, Piglet, Tigger & Eeyore. Every time one would come to our table they made a great fanfare pointing to my birthday button & giving me a hug. It really made my day :dance3:

DH with his favorite character, Eeyore
WDW2010313.jpg

I have to say, DH does look like he's in his happy place posing with Eeyore :cloud9:

DH with Piglet
WDW2010315.jpg

Always exciting, there is a parade with all the characters at the Crystal Palace. I love seeing all the kids get excited & joining in.

Pooh in the parade
WDW2010319.jpg

WDW2010320.jpg

And on it went. I realized I don't have a picture I can post of Tigger :upsidedow but rest assured he was there. Now aside from wishing me a happy birthday upon arrival, that was it from our waiter. But the character interaction & the festive look of our table, being at WDW with my 2 guys, well, it really was a memorable & happy way to celebrate my 50th birthday. ANd both my guys had agreed in celebration of my birthday that they would indulge me by watching the Main St. Electrical Parade & the fireworks with me from Main st. after dinner.

So the plan was to go outside after dinner & stake out a good spot to do just that.

But you know what I always say about the best laid out plans

Next: Creeps, Kinks, Wow & Right on!

Finally! A decent birthday recognition!!! Aren't the folks from the Hundred-Acre Woods nice!

How fun to do something you'd never done before- Stitch- we haven't tried this yet.

And it sounds like you erased the bad Laugh Factory mojo.

Sounds like you will end your night with a bang or two! Look forward to hearing about that!

Thanks. The 100-acre woods group are near & dear to my heart since they remind me of when DS was 4. DS at 4 adored Pooh Bear. We always look forward to seeing them & it was great to celebrate a birthday with them :cloud9:

You should try Stitch at least once, but I wouldn't do it until I was finished with my priority list or else while waiting for a FP window to open up. the only other thing I haven't done in tomorrowland is astro orbiters...well, one of these days maybe :confused3

I will try to do an update later today!

We actually like Stitch's Great Escape.
Just don't compare it to its predecessor - take it for what it is:
A ride made for little boys with belch jokes, immature creatures ignoring the rules, and poking fun at princesses: :goodvibes

Anyway, it sounds like you had a nice evening - a nice ending to the trip.
Hopefully you can enjoy the parade as well but you're ending was a bit ominous...

BTW, how was Crystal Palace for dinner? What did you guys have?
We always go for breakfast but never tried it for dinner...

My DH really liked Stitch's too :lmao:

We love dining at CP for any meal - what I like about lunch or dinner are all the selections available. Lots of cold salads, hot side dishes & at least 2 carved meats, plus a children's area & of course desserts :thumbsup2

I also like the location inside the MK, we like booking a later dinner there when it's an EMH night. But we've done b-fast too & enjoy it as well if you need to shave a few bucks per person off your bill :goodvibes Either way, Pooh & friends always make it a special event.

My lips are sealed on what happened with the parade & fireworks after dinner but I hope to be posting that later tonight. It's going to depend on how well DS & I get our homework done  The day got a little backed up since DS was sick from school today, but I'm glad to say he's feeling much better this evening :lovestruc

Aack! How did I miss this TR?

What a great way to celebrate your birthday! CP is on our list to try, but DH isn't a huge buffet fan, but I'll have to try to convince him. Looks good!

The conversation you had with your DH made me laugh out loud... I've had that conversation with my DH many times :rotfl:

I will try to do an update later today!

We had lunch at CP in August 2008. Really good meal. We met almost all of the characters, but Tigger didn't make it around to us! He is my favorite! All bouncy and in your face! I can't think of who he reminds me of, but if I look in the mirror I might be able to figure it out! We haven't been back to CP but I would love to have a before-opening breakfast there.

I'll have to see about Stitch. My boys behave like that at times already, don't know if I need the reinforcement of a misbehaving alien!

As you saw in my TR, I'm not a big fan of Astrorbitor. I don't mind the height, but the spinning did me in!

As always, your family's conversations crack me up. Glad to hear that your hubby and son actually enjoyed The Laugh Floor and that your hubby laughed during Stitch's Great Escape. My husband hates Stitch with a passion and usually sits that one out.

:welcome: So glad to have you reading along! Our group can all agree on CP, DS is such a picky eater so buffets usually work out best for our group.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has these odd conversations with DH, it's nice to know there are other ladies out there that "share my joy" :cutie:

This is the best TR ever!

:welcome: I'm glad you're enjoying it & happy to have you joining in!

One year we went to CP & got to be family of the day. DS was only 6 at the time & still a HUGE fan of Pooh so this was the biggest deal to him. They gave him a chef hat & all 4 characters surrounded him & watched him "create" some gooey pancakes - he loved it & it's still a great memory. You should try it & give your twin a big hug :tigger:

Then go see Stitch :rotfl:

As always, your family's conversations crack me up. Glad to hear that your hubby and son actually enjoyed The Laugh Floor and that your hubby laughed during Stitch's Great Escape. My husband hates Stitch with a passion and usually sits that one out.

I'm glad to provide some comic relief, I've been reading your TR & know it's been a rough time for your family  Yeah, Stitch is certainly different from other attractions but I think next to Haunted Mansion it may be in the top 5 for my hubbie at MK :upsidedow

Creeps, Kinks, Wow & Right On!

After a thoroughly enjoyable meal at the Crystal Palace with wonderful character interactions with all of the friends from the hundred acre woods, it was time to execute the rest of my plan for the evening.

Now this was our last evening at Magic Kingdom so the "plan" or the way I envisioned the Norman Rockwell ending was that after dinner at the Crystal Palace, we'd have plenty of time to go outside & find a super spot at the hub to watch the early parade. We would then sit there exchanging pleasant conversation about how great the parade was & how wonderful mom had planned the meal to coincide with getting this great spot and THEN we would be able to see the fireworks backdropped behind the changing colors of Cinderella's castle. We would all ooh & ahh and my guys would be all sentimental & oozing over with joy, peace & love :hippie:

Then we would walk opposite the crowd to the back of the park to ride DH's favorite, the haunted mansion. After some quality time with the happy haunts, he would walk off into the moonlight while DS and I enjoyed the EMH at Magic Kingdom.

Since I am unrepentent in my compulsive/obsessive planning, of course I had this plan all figured out in my mind. Now recall, my view of the fireworks from the Pirates & Pals cruise, well my view sucked, but anyway tonight would make up for that. And although today had the most rain of our entire trip, it was all clear so I overcame my fear that not watching the parade 2 nights before would come back to bite me in the butt.

So there was no reason all should not go as planned. Right?

popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn::

Except, did I forget to mention the Crystal Palace seated us late?

Now to my credit, I was not too worried about the time we spent in the Crystal Palace. In fact we had so much fun we actually lost track of time.

But by the time we headed outside, the hub was packed with people waiting for the parade. Not a spot in sight down Main Street either :scared1:

Both my guys looked at me wondering what are we going to do?

Were they afraid I was going to have a melt down

 Well, ususally the 2nd parade isn't as crowded. But inspite of this thought, I start walking toward the hub anyway, longing to score some kind of spot to the back where we'll be able to see the fireworks.

It's really crowded. Do I really want to wait here over an hour?

I look at DH, he really does not like crowds like this.

DS amazingly isn't saying anything.

We end up walking over to adventureland to escape the crowds & take a final ride on the Pirates of the Carribean. Didn't have to wait one minute & everyone enjoyed it. That beat waiting around an hour doing & seeing nothing :thumbsup2

Then we decided to ride the Haunted Mansion. This was our last night at MK & we had yet to do that as a family. ANd since this is DH's favorite all time attraction, it was past due time to do so :lovestruc

So that's what we did. I think we rode 3 times :goodvibes because we each took a turn riding alone. DS rode alone the final round so DH & I were able to ride together the last time :cloud9: But there would be no romantic hanky panky goings on, he didn't want to miss any of the
creeps naturally

When we finished Haunted Mansion, DS wondered if we should go over to fantasyland to watch the fireworks? He remembered seeing them from back there a few moons ago so knowing it wasn't going to work out on Main st, we figured why not? When we got there, we decided to pop into for one more viewing of Mickey's Philharmagic. Of course this is always a good use of time in my book :yay:

We exited the theatre about 5 minutes before the fireworks so we just stood right in the middle of the plaza near the carrousel.

We saw this behind us
WDW2010334.jpg

It felt like we were practically underneath all the fireworks. From our vantage point, we had kinks in our necks looking back to the fireworks, or to the castle.

The castle from Fantasyland
WDW2010335.jpg

Now at the time, I was disappointed to not be able to see the fireworks backdropped behind the castle, but both my guys ranted & raved how great they were from where we were positioned. And looking back I now think, well, this was what I had hoped for, that they would ooh & ahh & think how great the night was :woohoo:

Because the night was great :cloud9:

After the fireworks, DS wanted to use the FP's for BTRRM that he had collected prior to our dinner at Crystal Palace. He didn't want to get cheated out of using them when EMH hours started, which is what had happened to us 2 nights before.

DH said we would be going to see the late parade, afterall DS & he had promised to watch it with me. But I figured we could find a good spot over in frontierland & DS could go ride while DH & I watched the parade.

Everyone was agreeable to this plan. And we found a good spot where DH & I could actually sit on a wooden ledge without having to be on the ground. So knowing where we were, DS took off merrily to go enjoy the wildest ride in the wilderness.

CONT: Wow & Right On!

con't: WOW & Right On!

It's going to be hard for me to narrow down my pictures of the Main Street Electrical Parade because I took so many. I'm looking this up in my A-Z book of Disney trivia & here's the paraphrased scoop:
Main Street Electrical Parade started at Disneyland June 17, 1972 - Nov. 25, 1996.

A duplicate version of the parade ran in Walt Disney World June 11, 1977 - Sept. 14, 1991 when it was moved to Disneyland Paris in 1992.

The Disneyland parade floats were refurbished & moved to Walt Disney World Mk park May 28, 1999 to April 1, 2001.

Then moved back to California July 4, 2001.

end of my book. However, as you know, it came back for a visit to WDW the summer of 2010. So without further adue, here is the Main Street Electrical Parade, as seen from a wooden ledge in frontierland :goodvibes

ENJOY!

THe whole time this parade was passing by, all I could think was WOW!

DOn't get me wrong, I particularly like the Spectra Magic parade, but it was really special to be able to see the MSEP this summer.

DS made it back before the end of the parade & the 3 of us sat there together, enjoying  It was a great way to end the day.

Except, that wasn't the end of the day for DS & I :dance3:

The parade ended, DH decided he'd had enough & was ready to head back to the room. After kissing him goodbye, DS & I were ready to enjoy some EMH time at the Magic Kingdom.

First stop, DS wanted to go back to Big Thunder Railroad Mtn. Upon arrival, we're disappointed to see the line is a 30 minute wait. DS thinks it won't be that long. Unfortuntately the room over to the far right has ALL the queue lanes open. And it's still humid. After about 25 minutes we were taking off :woohoo:

He wants to ride again. This time we got Right on!

In the time it took to walk through the ride was the time we had to wait :woohoo:

We rode it 3 times in a row.

Next we headed over to Splash Mtn. Unfortunately it was having technical difficulties  Ah, too bad. Splash is my favorite.

Back to BTRRM for another ride. After that, we check back with Splash Mtn, just in case.

Hmmm, there's a line forming.

We hear screams of joy somewhere in that mtn - the ride opens back up :yay:

Less than 10 minutes later, we're in the front row!

We get wet!

We don't care!

We go again, we WALK RIGHT ON!

We actually tire of riding BTRRM & Splash Mtn & decide to walk thru fantasyland.

We see Mickey's Philharmagic again (yes, we nuts for that show)

Then go right on Dumbo & the teacups.

We may have waited 5 minutes for the tomorrowland speedway cars.

We head over to Space Mtn. The wait posted says 30 minutes. Oh well, what the heck. We enter, the wait tuns out to be only about 10 minutes!

After exiting the ride, the wait posted is 70 minutes  It's about 1:45am by now. DS hears a family standing at the entrance & the mom says to her group, "I don't think so"

Hmmm, did they do that on purpose? (post that 70 minute wait, cause it sure couldn't have been)

We decide to try Buzz lightyear one more time.

The Queen rules. I beat him again.

One more time.

The Queen STILL rules.

BEST SCORE EVER!!

Give it up my boy :rotfl:

DS needs to comfort himself with a Mickey IceCream bar. Well, we need to use up those snack credits. Un-oh, the ice cream stand over near Space Mtn is closed for the night says the CM. So sorry. Oh well :confused3

Walking over the bridge to the hub infront of the castle, there's another ice cream stand. I ask for a Mickey Bar for DS.

Sorry, we're closed says the CM. Plus our cash drawer is closed.

Another CM, must've been the boss looks at me. Notices my birthday pin. Wishes me a Happy Birthday.

He gives me 2 Mickey Bars & says Happy Birthday! REFUSES to take my snack credit or money.

DS can't believe it! Me neither, pixiedust: at 2am!

One more picture of the castle on the way out

Good night Walt

Good night Mickey

It was a good night :cloud9:

Next: Who's coming for lunch?

Great update! Sounds like you had a fantastic night! You had me worried there with the kinks- thought it was kinks in the plans. Glad your creeps were happy ones.

Wow, on all those rides on Big Thunder and Splash. Almost makes me wish I could stay up past 10 PM!

Spectacular views and photos of the parade- I especially love the one of Captain Hook and the Jolly Roger. Mickey looks pretty darn good, too!

It's great that you could watch the fireworks and parade as a family and then have lots of fun rides with just DS and you.

Nothing ends a night like FREE ICE CREAM!!!

And the final shot of the castle and partners is a super ending to a super night.

Dee

Thanks, it was a really memorable night :cloud9:

Good times. Plus I have a reason to talk DH into going back someday. Even though our viewing of fireworks was decent, I still haven't sat on Main St. or in that hub to see those fireworks :lmao:

Although we did have a great view one year from the rose garden. We ended up being right under where Tinkerbell flies. That was pretty cool to see up close.

Yeah, the free icecream was definately a surprise. I was just trying to use up a snack credit for DS & hadn't planned on any for myself. But who I ask could refuse an offer like that :goodvibes

We watched the fireworks from the backside of the castle a couple of years ago and we really enjoyed it. It was definitely a "different" view of the fireworks but it was pretty darn cool. There weren't as many people watching from back there which was a plus.

I'm loving that you guys were able to do so many things before AND after your hubby left to go back to the resort. I love love love me some evening extra magic hours.

Wasn't that sweet of the ice cream vendor to give you Mickey bars. Pure Disney at it's best.

I love the EMH when everything is a walk on :thumbsup2 I've been when it hasn't been & its no fun being up that late & having to wait in a line  But yeah, we were very fortunate plus the Mickey bars was a first, don't recall having something like that happen before :goodvibes

Sounds like a great night!

And BTW, that guy on the dragon was Pete.
He rides Elliot the Dragon.
After all, they don't call the movie Pete's Dragon for nothin'!! :goodvibes
