We went to Teppan Edo last week for the first time since 1992. It was a wonderful experience! Not only is the restaurant beautiful (even the bathrooms, believe it or not), but the service is attentive and the food is great. First a server comes to take your drink order and make "easy" chopsticks for kids to use. She also gives you a warm towel for your hands and goes over the menu options. The chef prepares the food at a grill right at your table (except for a few items, such as the salad and sushi, for example). The entrees included a bowl of rice, along with your choice of meat (or just vegetables...DD13 is a vegetarian, and hers was one of the most beautiful veggie dishes I've ever seen!), which is cut into small pieces, and a variety of vegetables and noodles. You are given a little dish with three different sauces, also.
I'm not sure whether you'd have to like Japanese food or not. I tend to like foods from many cultures, so I'm not the best judge, but it seemed not too "out there" to me. DH had the steak and loved it, and he's a little less adventurous than I am when it comes to food from other cultures. I thought all of it was delicious, and there's plenty of it. And you can use a fork if you're not too comfortable with chopsticks!
