My cousin Kim Goldsmith will be on the History Channel tonight! She is one of the lead archeologists at Teotihuacan near Mexico city. Tune in if you're interested in this kind of thing. I'm so excited!!!

City of the Gods.
Airs on Monday, March 6 at 9:00pm ET

There was only one ancient city in the Americas that ever truly rivaled the size, scale, and power of its Old World counterparts--Teotihuacán, the City of the Gods. And today, it's the largest ghost town in the world. Still home to the world's third largest pyramid, this mysterious city was once a metropolis many times larger and more populous than the biggest Mayan and Aztecan cities ever built. Now, Josh Bernstein heads to central Mexico to check it out. He'll soar above the ancient city, explore its obsidian mines, make prehistoric tools, and try to decode its impressive murals in a quest to understand who built the City of the Gods, how it became so powerful, and, most mysterious of all, why it was abandoned. That is so exciting! I love the history channel, my 13 yr old dd thinks I'm nuts! :confused3 :sunny:

Very cool!! I love archaeology, and love Josh Bernstein's show -- I'll be watching!

Thanks for the info. I will have to let DS12 know. He so wants to be an archeologist. Loves the HC!

I have been there, it is so cool! I will have to watch it and tourture dh with it. It is on my list of places I must take DD when she is old enough! I have hauled my bottam up that pyramdi of the sun 3xs. Not an easy feat as the steps are narrow and uneven. And we did try to race metal slinkys down the steps and I have the pictures to prove that we were that odd. (I think we got that from some movie but I cannot remeber which!) The feathered Serpent is really cool also. Much more enjoyabe than Chichén Itzá which is more touristy. If you ever get the chance to go it isnt far from Mexico City to visit Teotihuacan.

I hate to admit it but I've never been. I've only seen cousin Kim once since I was a little girl. She traveled to Seattle to speak at a conference here. We do email quite often and I would love to travel down that way. I'm afraid I normally end up in Puerto Vallarta, I'm a creature of habit.

I'll be taping this for my kids! We homeschool and we are learning about the Aztecs and Mayans right now. Thanks!

Thanks for telling us. I just set up to TiVo it! :sunny:

Thank You. DH & I love this stuff!

It would be so cool to have her give your family an indepth tour and all the history of the area. I am sure you would see things the general public wouldnt see. We traveled as normal tourists & it is very basic. "Look to your left, that large pyramid is know as the pyramid of the moon, down the Avenue of the dead to the far right is the Pyramid of the sun." That is about the extent of what we learned there.

However, I forgot one funny moment that we laughed about for years! We were part of a student group on the tour from my high school. We are walking back to the bus (imagine group of 3 caucasin girls age 17, two with long blond hair) and this man comes up to us selling his wares. He hauls out this velvet bag and inside is a black marble "god of love" as he called it. And that is basically what it was, a black marble male body part. We still are laughing (and appalled) about it. I must say I have never seen anything like it in all my travels.
