Is it just way to hot to tent at FW in Aug. or Sept? We have a camper, but with the price of gas, think that driving/pulling from Mass. would be way to much $. So we thought, maybe fly down and tent? Are we crazy?

My experience with Florida weather in general is hot and muggy into september. How does the cost compare for your family to fly rather than drive. We drive up to the cape from ne Florida and its not too bad.

We were at FW last weekend. We had a couple of friends staying in a tent, and they had no problems in the evening. They had a couple of small fans, and didn't even need them every night. That said, it could be very uncomfortable even later in the fall. But if my choice was tent at FW or no trip, well then bring the tent on down!!!!! :car:

We camped ~2 weeks in June and I still used a heater at night (cold natured and I have one of those "open" tents that is netting mostly on the ends with only the rainfly to keep air out and that just makes the air flow more through; like a air scoop if it's blowing in the right direction.

I'm going back in October for a week and plan on taking a bigger heater. It's not really as much the cold as it is the moisture. There is a LOT of moisture in the air at night, especially if you get the end of a tropical storm like we did the last two times in June.

A heater is NOT the way to combat the moisture. Open that tent up during the day and let the air flow. (A good rainfly should keep the tent dry even with the windows open). Also run a FAN during the day with those windows open to help dry stuff out.

Even when it's bitter cold at night, don't button up that tent too tight at night or you will freeze in your own moisture. Keep airflow going. Dry is the key to keeping warm!!!!

I'm a native Floridian who loves to tent camp and I say it is just way too hot in August or September unless you bring fans and/or AC. If you do that you should be okay. Since some of the lots aren't very shady, the hot sun beating down on your tent during the day can just make it so unbearable by the time evening rolls around.

In fact, we are going in two weeks and I love camping at FW but we are forking out the extra money to stay at the value just because I can't even tolerate the heat camping this time of year. Plus, the daily rain is a big inconvenience to consider this time of year.
