So DH and I may be sleeping in the tent this weekend at Fort Wilderness. Usually we simply sleep on an air mattress with sheets and a comforter. My question is will we ba warm enough or do we need to get some sleeping bags? The low Friday night is supposed to be 46 degrees. Thanks!

You will be colder on air mattresses than on the ground unless you have something underneath you. If you have enough blankets to go underneath as well as on top you'll probably be fine, but a sleeping bag would be more comfy!

It's a good excuse to snuggle up!

I was there just last weekend and we did fine. We had flannel underwear under our pjs and we had a heater that we plugged in to the electrial socket.

I use and electric mattress pad and electric blanket with the air mattress when it gets cold at the Fort

Like others have said, put something insulating between you and the air mattress. Sleeping bags would be warmer also just for the fact that the colder outside air couldn't come in next to your body, especially if you roll around when you sleep and your covers slip! If you had time to go order sleeping bags (if you don't have them already) I would recommend this:
Slumberjack Bonnie and Clyde double sleeping bag

We've used these for years, and they're great. One bag is thicker than the other so you can use the appropriate one on top according to the temperature. The good part about them being zipped together is that no one can steal the covers! They also can be used separately as single bags. Sometimes if it's going to be a little warmer weather, we'll just use one with a sheet or a lightweight fleece bag. (Either the bag unzipped and flat on top, or the sheet on top.) After a few nights with different temperatures, you figure out what combination of things works best.

Good Luck and Happy Camping!

We tented the week after Christmas. The first time we've camped there in the winter. We have air mattresses and we use sleeping bags with them. Mine and DS's are rated for 30 degree weather. DH is so hot-natured that he thought he could get by with his little flimsy single layer sleeping bag....next day we had to go to Wal-mart and get him a real sleeping bag. Those air mattresses suck the heat out of your body. We also use a little heater with auto-shut off on tip-over.

Well, we wussed out and slept in mom and dad's motorhome. It was a tight squeeze with DS, DBIL and 2 nieces, plus mom and dad, but the new rig is pretty roomy. We were glad to be inside, I'm a native Floridian and I think I will wait until March or so to tent camp again!
