I really need some ideas. I can get an excellant rate at the Dolphin and I adore it. BUT, I can tent camp for less than half that rate a night and have that rustic, family feel. I'm going back and forth in my mind and I need opinions??? Please. I budgeted enough for the Dolphin but do I want to spend down to the last budget penny? Maybe. Any views would be appreciated.

I camp a lot both in WDW, and throughout New England. I think the two experiences are totally different, like comparing apples and oranges. The atmosphere at Ft. Wilderness is the best, very relaxing, peaceful, love the extras like the petting zoo, and the campfire. And then there's the 4 star resort with terrific pool, and maybe views of Epcot Illuminations--I don't know how you'll choose. But I am certain you'll enjoy either. Another thought: time of year could make a difference, don't know how comfortable tenting in summer would be.

Vacations mean luxury to me, so the Dolphin would be my choice. Can you tell me how to get the teacher rate and how much it is?

The Teacher/Nurse/Government Employee rate is 149.00 a night I think. (It just went up). I love the Dolphin! Just call 1-800-227-1500 and ask the in house reservations about it.

As one who does NOT like to camp - I say spend the money for the Dolphin! :D

I like to camp but only in a trailer so for me a tent would definitely be out. If you want to save some money how about the All Star resorts? You could get a room at the All Stars for about 1/2 of the cost of the S/D and still have all the conveniences of a resort room and save money.

What about BOTH! You can camp half the time and Dolphin the last half!

We took a self-tour thru FW and we were completely impressed at the camp grounds. I would love to camp there some day!

I don't think I could sleep at night with it being so hot. Just something to consider.

Our family tried camping at FW last sept. I though it would be similar to the camping we do here in Mo at the state parks- wrong! Wet sand is impossible to keep out of the tent, clothes, etc. (the entire campsite is sand, except where you park) Plus we got ate up by bugs when we had to go the the restrooms or walk to the bus stops. It just was alot of work and uncomfortable issues that weren't much fun on vacation. JMHO

Spending a day in the parks can be very tiring. Therefore, you really want to be comfortable at night. I would go for the Swan. (actually, I would stay off-site so I could affor to take a second trip to Disney, but that is a whole different argument!)

You left out some crucial points:

1. When you will be going...but I'm sure we can assume summer.

2. And for how long!!!

Assuming you are staying 7 or 8 nights at the Dolphin I might reduce that to 5 nights and using the extra money to stay longer in the FW campgrounds...say a 10 or 11 night stay instead of just 7. You start out in FW and move over to the S/D for comfort in the second half of your stay.
