Can you help me remember the words to the song? A first grade teacher at school needs all the words and can't remember them....does anybody know?

We've got:

One little,
Two little,
Three little indians,

Four little,
Five little,
Six little indians,

Seven little,
Eight little,
Nine little indians,

Ten little indian boys and girls!

Then theres something about "jumping in the canoe and the canoe tipped over" and something about "tepees" and hand motions to go along with it. My kids learned this in preschool but can't remember it at all. Anybody know it?

Thanks!

They jumped in the boat and the boat tipped over, jumped in the boat and the boat tipped over, jumped in the boat and the boat tipped over. 10 little indian boys and girls!!

This is the only part of it that I know off hand. Hope it is some help. Never knew the version that included teepees.

Ok, does it continue with:
They swam and they swam and they swam to the "___"
" "
" "
Ten Little Indian boys and girls!

They __ and they _______and ___the tepees?????

I never knew the song had all those extra verses!! Can you believe that our elementary school banned that song about 10 years ago after a complaint from one of the parents?

We can't say Merry Christmas, either. It's Winter Time or Happy Holidays.....

Pam

The intent is obviously not to insult any native americans!

One 1st grade class is dressing as pilgrims and singing a pilgrim song and the other class is dressing as indians and wanted to sing an indian song. Since it is kind of last minute they were looking for a fairly simple cute song.

All this political correctness is getting silly.

I take it no one knows the words....I figured if anyone could help it would be you guys.

Thanks anyway.

I agree completely with you, Sonja. And my cousins, who are "Indians", in their own words, not mine and reside on a reservation in Nevada, couldn't believe it when I told them we were not allowed to sing that song!

You can do a search and also find it.
Just type in: song ten little indians
When I did that it pulled up diff. versions of the song.

Pam - I can't believe they can't say Merry Christmas,
That is ridiculous.

I actually did a search before I posted this thread.

I found lots of links but they all led to the "classic" version or some version done by the beach boys......couldn't find the one I was looking for.

the way I remember it was the first verse 12345678910 Indians.. the it was they were all in the boat and the boat tipped over all in the boat and the boat tipped over they were all In the boat and the boat tipped over ten little indian boys and girls they swam and they swam and they swam to the shore they swam and they swam and they swam to the shore they swam and they swam and they swam to the shore ten little indian boys and girls then they ran and they ran and they ran to there mommy's they ran and they ran and they ran to there mommy's they ran and they ran and they ran to there mommy's ten little indian boys and girls then they all went to sleep in there little tepees they all went to sleep in there little tepees then they all went to sleep in there little tepees ten little indian boys and girls

I’m pretty sure most of the places that banned the saying of Merry Christmas have changed their position over the last 18 years after they were challenged in court. Most stores have.

Disney’s One Little Indian came out in 1973. I had such a crush on Clay O’Brien at the time. I remember they dyed his hair black and had him wear brown face for the role. But I think the character was actually a Caucasian child raised by Indians.

Not a fan of calling Native Americans Indians, especially since I'm married to an actual Indian from India. That being said, I wouldn't raise a fit about it unless my sons wanted me to. My DH has an elaborate Native American headdress that was given to him when he was tribal chief of our sons' tribe in the YMCA Father/Child program. He liked to joke about how he was the only Indian who had ever worn it.

ETA: Yes, I know this is a zombie thread. Brains! Brains!

The 1868 version, used in minstrel shows, was called "Ten Little Injuns". Although that wasn't the original version. And was originally intended as a counting song for little kids (as far as I understand). But the history of the song does include the 1869 version, which replaces "Indians" with the N-word.

So the whole thing is kinda ... sticky.

OOOOOO a zombie thread.
You know what that means.
Well we approached the zombies for a zombie poll on this one when they broke out into song.

One little two little three little brains to eat
four little five little six little brains to eat
seven little eight little nine little brains to eat
and you are number ten.

We decided today was not the day for another zombie poll, hopped into the poll mobile, and drove away.

Oh yes you can say Merry Christmas. Let them try to do anything about it. Our district tried that. 15 years ago.... Teachers said it anyways. And it went to court. The good guys won! Don’t ever bow down to anyone wanting to take your rights away.
