TEMPORARY Refrigerator Removal from WDW Resorts

Disney: We have had to temporarily remove most of the fridges from guest rooms due to an urgent safety issue to save your lives. We are working to get new ones in as soon as possible, but it may take a little while.

DIS:  Waily waily! No chilled drinks in our rooms, we'll have to go to the ice machines or the food court now! The world is ending - we've been ripped off and demand compensation.

Me: ....................... !

P.S. ;) , for the sarcastic-humour impaired

The people that want them and don't have them will be compensated, so what's the problem? I don't think Disney has any obligation whatsoever to do so, but if they choose to, I'm sure some will appreciate it.

I haven't read any thing official about the compensation, do you have a link?

I think your sarcasm is uncalled for. People such as ourselves leave in 5 days and planned around having a refrigerator in the room for such things as milk and yogurt. If it isn't available, it does create an inconvenience that could have been avoided if the room wasn't listed as having one.

Well......if it's that urgent, how come it took them a whole month to even start to do anything about it? The one fire that seemed to have caused all this uproar was in the middle of June!

The prices go up every year

What it pays for is whatever they choose.

They didn't specifically raise rates for the addition of fridges. They raised rates at the resorts that already had them too! People can't say they raised rates for the fridges therefore the lack means the rates have to come down . It is great if Disney offers some money back, but they don't have to. That math doesn't work.

I'm quite sure that if Disney had known that the fridges were fire hazards, they would have removed them from the amenities list.

You're upset because Disney didn't remove them from the list before they even knew there was a problem?

And milk and yogurt will keep just fine in ice - I know, because we did it for years before hotel rooms had fridges in them. Yes, it's more inconvenient than a fridge, but less inconvenient than having the room catch on fire.

No, I don't have a link for the compensation, but if it's showing up on travel agent sites, as was mentioned above, I don't doubt it's true.

$15 dollars per day should buy you all the milk and yogurt you want, if a fridge isn't available.

No, they didn't specifically raise rates because of them. But they did advertise rooms with fridges. We bought rooms with fridges. We paid full price for rooms with fridges. Now we may not get fridges.

I'm not fond of paying for things I don't get. But it seems a lot of people here don't mind that sort of thing.

Agree 100%.

They neglected to put out shampoo one day on our last trip...I didn't realize I was supposed to go downstairs and ask for a refund! ;)

They did not come out and say "We are raising the rates because of the in room fridges", that had to be part of their yearly increase.

Yes they do not have to comp the guests (I will be there in 3 weeks)

It would be a smart move for them (PR wise) to offer some token, and it seems they have.

Again, what if the AC units were removed?

For something that I can easily replace with an $8 cooler and some ice? No, I wouldn't mind at all.

Probably took that long to figure out if it was one unit or a defect. Even then it might not be 100% a manufacturing defect and they are erroring on the safe side

If Disney, who had no problem spending $4.4 billion on Jar Jar Binks, wants to spend a few bucks on a cooler for me, that would suffice

I think the $15 is too high

One is a necessity and one is not, unless you have medical issues, which Disney is addressing. If you don't have a fridge, you can use ice. If you don't have an air conditioner, it isn't like you can bring one from home or have one delivered to the resort for your stay.

Same with bed, toilet and shower.

Whether the room rate includes a fridge or not....$300 a night for a room without a fridge is completely ridiculous. Period!!!! And paying $300 a night while lugging ice to a cooler and draining it each night? No thank you. Watching to see if this is really the case, if so you'll find me at the swan all nights of my trip. Cheaper, I get a fridge, and keep my emh.

My one vacation this year will not be spent with a styrofoam cooler leaking in the room. I guess I'm just too picky.

That's a great idea - put a cooler in every room that doesn't have a fridge. :thumbsup2

Okay.
Pillows then. Or a tv
AC is not really a necessity for everyone

This is fun. Headed to the World soon?

I guess so. ;)

Oh don't complain. No one here likes complainers
(Kidding. I am on your side)
