Temporary DVC Membership Card

I bought at SSR in September. I thought my guide said that we would receive our permanent membership card when our contract when through (which I received confirmation of approval.) My temp card expires next month and I haven't seen my "real" card yet so I called MS. I was disappointed to hear that I don't get the card until closing which won't happen until the building is finished which is expected to be 3/31/05. I told MS that my temp card is about to expire and asked what I should do. MS said to stop by and pick up a new one. I told her that I do not have a trip scheduled to WDW before the summer. She said rather sarcastically "Then I guess you don't really need it before then do you." I thought that was kind of rude. After I hung up I was trying to think of reasons I might need my member ID. I don't want to get into a bind where I need it and have to scramble at the last minute to get one that hasn't expired. Can anyone think of any reasons I might need it other than I just want to have it to feel like a "real" DVC member?

First of all, welcome! When we signed up in March, we also received Temporary cards, which expired August 1. Our closing was supposed to be the end of June, and we planned a quick trip to check out home in early August, so I was worried about our membership cards also. They came the week before we left on our trip! Call MS again, and explain you'd like to use it when you shop at the local Disney Store (don't know for how much longer, but you can get a 10% discount on your store purchase when you show your card, at least I was able to last weekend when I was shopping at the Woodfield Mall Store). Thanks for the help. I asked about using it for the Disney Store discount and she said that I could no longer get that discount. I was kind of surprised that since I was concerned that my temp ID was expiring that MS didn't offer to send another one. I guess the bottom line is that I have received plenty of literature from DVC on getting other people to purchase and for me to add on but I have had problems receiving my password for the DVC website and other information that would be helpful to me.

It's aweful your having such a hard time with MS. I called the day we got our temporary cards and asked for my code to get on the DVC member site. They were very happy to help. By the way, you're not missing much. I do use my cards for the discount at TDS and the discount was still available on Friday. When my were due to expire, I sent an e-mail and was told they were sending new ones out(me & DH). They did say they could take six weeks to arrive however. Good Luck.

I will try sending MS an email. Maybe I will have better luck with that. Glad to hear that my experience isn't the norm.

I am in the same boat as we bought in August and our temp card expired Dec 12. We are going to make our first trip using developer points before the Mar 31 closing so I called MS to ask if I would get another temporary or what should I do.

The lady I talked to (don't remember her name) told me that even though we don't officially close until Mar 31 there was a "pending" type closing that we fell under and that we would be receiving our permanent cards shortly as they process them every Wednesday.

We also bought into DVC in September for a March contract start date. We too received our temp cards a couple of weeks later and had not seen permanent cards since.

I was curious about it and called our guide directly to see when we should expect to see them. He said the same thing about not recieving them until we "officially" close in March of next year. He told me that if they expire before then and we'd like new temp cards, just to call him and he'd send them out to us.

I'd say give your guide a call directly rather than going through MS.

I also called for this. It seems strange to me that they dont tell you UP FRONT that your temp card (which will expire) will be the only one you get until everything officially happens in March (or later). Just a frustrating thing really, but it took me 2 calls to my guide to get an answer (after I raised a ruckus about my guide never calling me back where I ask! - at work not at home where I dont get the message until he is gone for the day....ggrrrr) and I acutally got the answer from someone else because once again my guide was not in.

I don't think we can change our minds at this point, so why aren't we given perm. cards? Just seems weird to me and like many other things, it will be complicated when we go to get our APs in Feb. First we have to go to Saratoga Springs to get a new card then we can go back to get our APs at the ticket window at Disney. THEN we can go and check into our hotel with an AP discount. *whew* Good thing I can't get enough Disney - any other place and I would not be willing to go to so much trouble!

To put it simply, she's wrong. DVS discounts are still honored at The Disney Store.

Just thought I'd bump this back up. We just received our permanent membership cards yesterday even though we don't "officially" close until March (see previous post 4 reply's ago), so all who are waiting, keep your chin up!

Yeah I shopped at TDS on Dec 24th and was told they are still going to honor our DVC discount even though they are being controlled by Children's place now. The CM seemed to be enthusiastic about the change. He was a manager and from what he was told CP was planning on bringing back the quality of TDS brand. Hopefully that happens

We are not officilly to close until March 2005, and we too already got our permanent DVC clubs 2 days ago and our Disney store let us use the expired temporary cards.

Now I feel bad for all that griping but I was frustrated thinking we were going to have to wait!

Now all I have to do is buy my annual passes first (could not renew and get the discount....they expired Dec 5th...arg - the wait has been killing me lol) and then we can hit our hotel in late Jan, early Feb.
