I think this is one of the neatest things in our town. We have a nice main street area with shops and restaurants. A few years ago, a high school student came up with this project for school. He got together with a local artist, and placed 9 bronze mice from "Goodnight Moon" along Main Steet in different hiding places and it now serves as a sort of "scavenger hunt" to find them when you are downtown. A bronze replica of the open "Goodnight Moon" book along with the first mouse is next to the fountain at the downtown Hyatt. It is so cool..http://www.greenville.com/news/miceonmain.html

Tom Arnold is from my hometown!
I live in Des Moines now- where Ronald Reagan got his start as a sportscaster. And we have the State Fair, where the famous butter cow is. Well, we're told it's famous. Has anyone else heard of this butter cow? :)

The birth control pill was invented in my town of Shrewsbury, MA!

That is so cool. My daughter would love to see that. Her favorite part of Good Night Moon is finding the mouse in each picture.

Our town has a very high concentration of Polish-Americans, which is probably why it's pretty well known for it's annual Polish Festival.

Famous people from my town - Christine Baranski, William Fichtner, Chelsea Noble

Famous person from my hometown - Robby Takac from the Goo Goo Dolls

Ocean City is an island about 1 mile wide and 8 miles long. It is a dry town and was once a religious retreat. We no longer have blue laws but I remember them while I was growing up. Not a lot of famous people from here but many people visit in the summer.

We have castles

http://www.mercermuseum.org/

Also hometown of Oscar Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Margaret Mead, James Michener, Pink and Justin Guarini. Pink went to my son's middle school -- the teacher were not impressed with her, neither was his Dare police officer.

We have one of the largest paper making facilities in the world here, The GP complex is actually larger than the town, and covers more than half the improved acreage of our town. Its large enough that instead of them using the city waste water treatment facility,, the city uses theirs:) They make 90 % of the toilet paper and paper towels they market here in town. (the northern quilters live here) northern, coronet, both the commercial brands angel soft, bounty, brawny, the world famous wal mart 3 roll packs of towels, GP copy paper fax paper and several other fine writing papers, Kraft papers leave here by the train load, The first southern pine plywood was made in the town north of here i grew up in, in 1964. Will drive past that mill on my way to moms after while. we used to have some really interesting old buildings on main street but they burned out the night of the 2003 downtown merchants association Christmas party,, party ended at 9 pm,, at 915 the entire first block of main was in flames. over half the block was lost to the fire.

Joanne Woodward went to HS here. We can also claim TWO Jacksons- Shoeless Joe Jackson, and the Reverend Jesse Jackson. Thank goodness it's not THREE Jacksons..

My town is known for having the World's Largest Fiddlers Convention. It actually started yesterday and somewhere around 50,000-75,000 [people come into town to partake in the activities.

C'mon down for a visit, we have lots to do here...::yes::

Home of the US Navy's Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Team

and

the oldest settlement is the United States (was actually settled before St Augustine, but a hurricane pretty much wiped out the settlement, and was abandoned. One of the ships from this expedition was discovered in the bay a few years ago.)

Let's see.... Emily Dickenson lived here, 5 great colleges (UMASS, Amherst, Hampshire, and very nearby Mt. Holyoke and Smith), voted crankiest town in America by ABA:rolleyes: almost every resident owns a copy of Robert's Rules of Order:crazy: home of numerous controversies that made national news, which prompts residents to say " only in Amherst"

My current town is the first Catholic settlement in American (1632, St. Mary's (or Marie's) City).

I grew up in Indianapolis, famous for it's 500 mile race.

Nothing special (that I know of) about my town of Gambrills, MD., other than we are right inbetween Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Annapolis!

Well, since I work there, Knoxville is the home of the headquarters for HGTV - well, it is now Scripps Networks (HGTV, DIY, Food Network, Fine Living Network and Shop at Home Network). Whenever people ask me where I am located, they always seem to know "Hey, that is where HGTV is, right?". I think they imagine that we are in California or New York - which would seem obvious to me, too, at first.

My town is the home of some "famous" people; poet Samuel Woodworth, who wrote the poem "The Old Oaken Bucket".

a judge from the Massachusetts supreme court, and eventually ths US supreme court appointd by George Washington, Judge Jay Cushing lived here.

the first ship to explore the pacific northwest, the Colombia, was built here.

We have a castle in our town too. Rockingham castle, well it's more of a stately home really.

Plus we also have Europes newest NASCAR speedway here.

One time, my grandmother was at the grocery store and she wanted some OJ but she couldn't reach it. So she asked this grungy looking man to get it for her. He got down in her face and asked, "What's it worth to ya?" She put her hands on her hips and said, "About $1.50, it's on sale!!!" He got it for her and laughed and walked away. Later she realized that it was Stephen King.
:D

He just built us this really cool big pool.:Pinkbounc

My friend and I were watching Secret Window and when it was over I said, "I just feel like walking up to West Broadway and giving Stephen King a big hug."

That's our celebrity.

Oh, Martha Stewart lived in Bar Harbor, but she's a criminal. Don't care.

twice a year, it's the largest town in NH...when 120,000 NASCAR fans come to town.
