Yep! DH knew someone who lived north of SF "over the mountain" in Santa Rosa and worked south of town in Sunnyvale....the commute was 95 miles each way. He worked blocks of days, though, so he'd get a cheap hotel room and stay....come to work, work 2-4 days staying in the hotel, go home for his 2-4 days off.....any combination of 2,3, or 4 days on or off. His home was near his wife's family and she didn't want to moveOriginally posted by Rutt and Tuke
In the San Francisco Bay Area there are a lot of folks who commute upwards of 200 miles each way. Housing prices where their jobs are are just too damn expensive. I've known of techies for Cisco who "plane-pooled" from the central valley to work in a small plane.

DH also knew folks that plane-pooled in the SF area.....
Cost of housing out there has a lot to do with it....friends are getting transferred out there and are having heart-attacks with the cost! They're going to have to dump about 1/2 of their possessions to be able to fit in something they can afford out there....and one of them is required to live within 30 minutes of his work, so the long commute isn't an option.....
