Hi,

I probably should have asked this question before booking our flights...

How likely are our kids (5 y/o) to get sick from the re-circulated air on the plane? I am not concerned about motion sickness - they do well on long car drives. Please someone, reassure me! (It's about a 2-1/4 hour flight)

My three kids flew all the way to Paris last year (and back) and no one got sick.

DD7 has flown with me since she was 8 months old and we flew over to Japan. We made that flight several times and I prefer flying to driving for travel, so she's flown a lot. She's never gotten sick. I may have caught a cold once, but I probably had that pre-flight and, frankly, one cold after what is probably a couple of hundred flights..... well, I'd say it's unlikely the kids will get sick. :flower:

Try using Airborne. Its a tablet that you just drop into some water and drink. It has a good taste and ok for kids.(but double check just to make sure) My DH and I got sick on our Disney trip in Jan 04. Since then we have used this and have been fine(we fly about 6-8 times a year). We'll use it again when we visit WDW in a few weeks.

My son has logged half a million miles since he was young, and has never gotten sick directly attributable to an airplane.

In all honesty, there's a greater chance of getting sick from touching a handrail at WDW then touching your nose or mouth.

I picked up influenza at WDW in 1999. Yes, the doctor was sure that's where I got it based on the length of my stay and when I came down with it.

My daughter has been traveling by air since she was 12 months and has never gotten sick.

Studies have been done. This recirculated air myth is just that. The air is not 100% recirculated and if people didn't get bird flu from it, your kids should be fine. There are plenty of other things to worry about.
If I was going to catch things from airlines I would be sick ALL the time. LOL!

I haven't flown a lot, but I have flown several times, often at times when my immune system could have been better. Have never gotten sick immediately after flying. Anytime I've been sick on a vacation it's been something that I either left home with, or picked up at the parks.

My nephew has flown back and forth from Japan and Germany since he was 6 months old and has never gotten sick.

Dd, now 11, has never gotten sick after flying either. She did get sick in WDW in Dec '03 but it came on the day after we got there and the doctor at home said there was no way it came from the plane air. My nephews have been flying between Japan and the US for 15 years and they haven't gotten sick either. Wash your hands, stay hydrated and you should be fine!

wow just wow

i do not even think about nonsense such as my child and how she will be affected by re circed air.

let your kids be kids...if you shelter them from every little germ, they will always be sick

We fly all the time DD & DS have never gotten sick. Me & DH either.

DH takes at least one roundtrip flight per week and has never been ill because of a flight. I agree that you have a better chance of picking something up in the parks than on the way down there. :)

I guess I'm the exception, always seemed to get a cold after flying. Airborne is great. We take it but I'd check with doc about kids. On a long flight from Europe, I sat next to a physician who said he uses a little dab of neosporin under his nose. I always try to do this. So far, so good.

My DD has flown numerous times and has never gotten sick from the recirculated air. In fact, none of us have.
