Tell me why you love (or hate) the Yacht and Beach Club

Can you tell us more about the Marketplace?

I love YC/BC and we're going back in August.
Thanks!

We love both of these hotels. They are a perfect location for the marathon. The runners pass the hotels on their way to the finish in Epcot. The energy and excitement is amazing!
We like the YC when we are traveling as a couple and the BC has more of a family feel to us. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

When we stayed in the BCVs for the 2005 marathon we heard that the reason the store was relocated was just to allow for remodeling of the existing store with the goal of adding more frozen foods for the villas. We were also told that a new fast food location was in the works to be located either in or near the old kids club (temporary store location). This came from the CM in the store. Sounds like the Marketplace that the above poster is talking about.

"My DW and I stopped briefly at the newly renovated BCV Marketplace and were favorably impressed with the addition of a gelato counter (about ten flavors), baked goods and prepared sandwiches. There is even freshly brewed coffee!! "

I just found this on a DVC thread, thanks to Paul in CT!

LOVE the Yacht and Beach!!! If I was to win a million trillion dollars and could go ANYWHERE in the world I would pick the Yacht club!!! Of coarse I would stay in Concierge in the admiral suite!!!

No not anymore! It use to stop at all of them now the bus just goes to Yacht and beach. (Atleast that is how it was in Sept) :flower:

We stayed at BCV last December and the MK bus stopped only at YC & BC.
Conversely, when going & coming from AK we stopped at them all- not that bad really.

I just booked BC today for our October stay. Can anyone tell me about their experiences with the marina rentals, especially if you've purchased a 'family plan".

Love the location (EPCOT and MGM)
Love that its near BWV
LOVE THE POOL

Don't like: THE largeness of the hotel - too big.
Rooms are very small

We too love the BC. Our latest trip to WDW was the best yet! We stayed 6 nights at the BC and it was wonderful. The location was awesome. The sand-bottom pool was beautiful. When I booked the trip I planned plenty of 'down time' to spend at the resort. I'm so glad I did. My 9 year old says one of his favorite parts of the trip was the hotel. Two nights we took a stroll over to the Boardwalk for pizza and ice cream and enjoyed the live entertainment and Epcots fireworks. The option to take the boat or walk to the parks is a nice break from the buses. Great food at Beaches and Cream (burgers and the Kitchen Sink) and the Cape May Cafe breakfast buffet. The character interaction at CMC was perfect!!

I can't say enough!

We will be staying here next time...(hopefully in the fall).

snowmouse: We booked the family plan. Just went down to the marina the first day we were there and gave them all the names (you can have up to five people on the plan). Anytime after that the teens were able to go down by themselves and rent mouseboats whenever they wanted. You could also rent larger boats and even pontoons but there had to be a licensed driver with them. If I remember correctly it was $259 for seven days unlimited use. Some afternoons I would sit on our balcony and watch the teens out on the Lake in the mouseboats. We really enjoyed this!!

I think I am in the minority with my dislike of the YC. It was too stuffy for our tastes and our room was tiny- only time I have also ever ended up looking at a parking lot- which granted I did not request a better view room but still yucky- and we were under a roof overhang so our room was very dark(one of my pet peeves) The steakhouse also didn't do it for me. We are more beach club people- more casual- closer to Epcot by a few hundred feet or more- brighter beachier. But we love that pool so I guess either is good but we LOVE the BC- have stayed there at least a dozen times..the YC only that one time- that was enough for me.

We stayed at BC for 4 nights last fall with our 4 mo old DD. It was nice, but I don't think worth the price for our priorities on a Disney vacation.

Pro's:

1. Able to walk to Epcot and the Boardwalk areas. For me, this would be the reason I would return to BC. I loved to be able to just run over to Epcot on a whim rather than have to take a bus. My husband was golfing one afternoon so I just loaded my daughter into her stroller and we just took a walk around the World Showcase and the Boardwalk.

2. I hear that Stormalong Bay is nice, but we never even made it there! When we're at Disney, we spend most of our time at the parks. This will probably change as my DD gets older, but for now, any pool (or even no pool) is sufficient for us.

3. Nice resort experience. I don't remember any noise while we were there. Also, we were in a ground level room by the quiet pool and we had a nice patio.

Con's:

1. Dining choices!!! Like I said above, we spend most of our time in the park and when we get back to the hotel we just want to grab a quick bite. We felt so limited at BC. Beaches & Cream take out was really your only quick option at night (and it was pretty tasty!).

2. The rooms were nice, but I didn't think that they were nice enough to justify the price.

3. Bus transportation was annoying because when we were there it stopped at Swan, Dolphin, YC and BC. The boat ride to MGM was enjoyable, but slow.

Would I stay at BC again? Probably, if I had a good rate and if I thought that we would use the pool more. My biggest gripe was the lack of quick food options, but you also have the option of running over to Epcot or the Boardwalk for more options. It's a very nice hotel, but it just didn't fit our needs.

We have never done the family plan. But we did rent breathless and it was Allot of fun!!! My DD and Hubby LOVED it!! they got soaked!! And when we drove around near epcot ect.. people look at you like "who is that"!! lol lol lots of fun!!! :flower:

My ds's will be 15 in October and the marina rentals are far more interesting to them than the parks. We did use the Marina at POR a lot when we were there a couple of years ago, but the boys weren't old enough to be on there own (at 12). This time, I think we'll try giving them the option of sleeping in and boating rather than be dragged with their commando mom an hour before park opening everyday  . My husband and dd8 don't seem to mind so much. I think this arrangement will keep everyone happy. We'll buy the family plan at the marina, and buy the boys fewer days on their park passes. We're very excited to be staying at the BC. We stayed at the YC several years ago when boys were toddlers and loved it. Chose BC this time, hoping for an illuminations view. I know they will all love Stormalong Bay. :cool1: :cool1:
