Tell me what your planning on getting your 10/11 year old boys for Christmas

My son is really into Beyblades. They are little spinning tops that you can compete against others with. He's also already asked for a new helicopter. I agree with previous posters about their wear. But for under $20 (on sale) he was able to keep his going for 9 months with a ton of play and crashes! I think we got our money out it! :thumbsup2

I got this suggestion from another thread on Dis, and just used it with my kids with GREAT success.... the reason Santa doesn't bring everything they want is that parents are sent a bill in January for whatever was delivered (gotta pay those elves, right:lmao:). Anyway, we have a budget & family rules, which we email to Santa before Christmas. That way he knows what kinds of things should be delivered. :thumbsup2 We also reminded them that every family likes to explain things to their kids at different times, so they aren't allowed to share this information with their friends. ;)

Great idea!:thumbsup2 Guess I wont have to spoil the fun after all. Thanks:goodvibes

That is my question as well because I was told these particular ones are far more sturdy. We have had the cheepie ones, but these are erector set type construction.

Dawn

This particular brand, or just the helicopters in general?

My DS is turning 13 in October and then there is Christmas coming up soon. All he wants is electronics! His first item is the Ipod touch. He also wants a laptop (HA...no chance of that), camera, new cell phone. I plan to get him one expensive gift and then others that are not electronic.

Basketball
He used to have an outdoor helicopter that was extremely sturdy and he crashed it many times. He used it for years. Can't remember what it was.
Uno attack is our favorite family game...always lots of fun.
Legos

lego is standard in our house and we have to get it set up soon now we moved, we spend all of xmas day and sometimes boxing day putting it together!! fun for the whole family!

My DS will be 11 and he is asking for a droid phone and portable DVD player as well as some megablocks, xbox and xbox 360 games.

After reading this thread, I'm afraid to ask my DS11 what he wants for Christmas... it all sounds so expensive...

Do they have an ipod/itouch? If so, then iTunes gift cards.

Cell phone? New case or accessory, or money towards their bill (if they pay for it themselves) or for minutes if its a pay as you go plan.

Do they play sports? New equipment for that sport, or money/gift cards for them to pick out their own.

My DS will be turning 10 right after Christmas and has already said he'd like money or gift cards to get a new baseball bag, batting helmet and catcher's gear.

Is there an amusement park near you that they like? If so, then annual passes for that place.

Movie tickets with candy (that will probably get eaten before they use the tickets - but that's ok)

Gift cards to local attractions....mini golf, bowling, laser tag, indoor arcade....whatever they like that is around you.

Good luck, this is a hard age for gifts. My nephews are a few years older than my kids, and I usually go with gift cards for them.

What about: pogo stick, basketball hoop, skateboard, new bike

We have enough video games here, too. I'm thinking about the above list for my ds11 for xmas.

He wants a basketball hoop and a new bike. I think a pogo stick would be something he would love.

The only problem is living in the midwest. At xmastime, the kids can't use any of those things until late April/early May.

:)DH and I do not have children. I have a precious 9 year old nephew who loves STAR WARS. I saw one of the nice picture books with all the charachter descriptions in the Once upon a Toy Store last year and think that is my pick for this year. His older two sisters are getting Vera Bradley and his younger two I haven't decided on. Poor boy is surrounded by girls. He LOVED The nerf gun I got him last year. That was a big hit with EVERYONE including the girls. We live on the Gulf Coast so my Dad and Brother got body boards for the summer.

I could also do a Shuffle....hmmmmm

My ds (11) is getting a nerf indoor basketball hoop, legos, new Diary of Wimpy kid book, U of A drawstring backpack, Broncos pjs, a new Wii game or two, hopefully the HP touchpad I ordered weeks ago.

how about sports stuff for your ds? Mine is into football right now and there's always a few jerseys he would love to have! We got him a U of A fathead last year for his room.

I'm taking my kids to hawaii for 2 weeks and near the end of the vacation we will stay in the new disney resort in oahu. I will buy them a few little things for christmas.

So far I have the following for my 5th grader who turned 10 in August:

Lego Star Wars Character Encycopedia
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever
Lego Star Wars Darth Vader alarm clock

Will definitely get some Star Wars lego sets. Probably a video game. Not sure what else.

We are getting our 10yr old boy:
ski pass
new ski pants
nerf gun
long board skateboard
i tunes card
amazon card (kindle)
Minecraft online subscription

that is it so far.

For two bigger ticket item that aren't video games (if you have the room), my DS9 and his friends are starting to play with our ping pong table and our pop and shot basketball (indoor).

Ping pong tables are almost always a black friday item for $89-99. Add a $15 ball/paddle set and you have something that gets them off the tv and will hopefully last a few years.

Also, for the video gamers, Gamestop has the paid membership (can't think of the name). I believe it is $15 bucks. It gives you discounts during the year on purchases and trade ins and also a subscription to their magazine. You get a copy of the magazine at the time of purchase. Something to consider.

I LOVE the ping pong table idea!

We have 3 boys and I'd have to say the older they get, the harder it is to buy for them. You can't fill in with little accessories like girls. Legos and Nerf guns are the items we've given that have gotten the most milage. Building toys of all kinds seem to be a hit. Kinnex, Magnetix, and Marble Works are toys my 11 year old still plays with, as the youngest 4 year old is just learning to do these. There are usually some pretty good sales between Thanksgiving and Christmas on various building toys. My kids also have a bunch of friends who have Airsoft guns, and they do big get togethers where they have a "war." (Yes, they wear protective eye gear) This year, I'm buying the boys some hiking boots and camo wear for when they play Airsoft. I also usually buy them an Under Armour item with their favorite team on it. I've bought the large Star Wars Lego books and other books that go with the series they like reading. My middle son loves science, so I've bought him science experiment kits before. I also get a game that is given to all the boys that we can play altogether.

My son was a nerf gun nut but around age 10/11 he wanted a bb gun and then an airsoft gun. The airsoft guns really are not expensive. I also bought him a target to shoot at in the backyard. Once he got that he wanted a bow and arrow set to shoot at the target. He has really enjoyed that.

DS10 is probably getting a new tv for his room (his is 19 years old, and big and bulky..and on its last legs). Walmart has 19 inch flatscreens for around $120 and I imagine I can get a better deal closer to December.

He'll also get some Lego's, a Wii game, a DS game, a PSP game, some books, an outfit, some Axe, and maybe a board/card game or a model kit of some sort, maybe a new nerf gun (like he needs more..lol).

I also like "experience" gifts, so I may even get him and DD12 an all day wrist band for Nick Universe at the Mall of America. I did that for Easter one year and it was a big hit (we're at the mall quite a bit, but don't usually do the rides). I may also get them passes for Waterpark of America to use on CHristmas day after dinner ( or maybe before. Our family is all out of state , so it's just the 5 of us anyways.)
