I live in a small town in a New England state. So, for it to be the 2006, and to have a place be prejudice in this day and age.....I can't fathom it. but it is here, it is live....and I think it has gone unspoken for too many years. Everyone in this town used to know that "certain" people were not allowed a membership to the Athletic Association. Those "certain" people would be a person of color, and a person of the female gender. Year and years ago, you figured it was the old fogies, stuck in the 40's....but now it is 2006, and the rule is still the same. If you are a female, or a person of color, you are certainly welcome to apply for a membership, but you will be turned down. They don't even try to defend their reason's why. They are a private club...not much you can do about it. That was years ago..this town is growing, and it has a lot of big money moving out of the cities. Not to sure how the new residents would feel if they knew they lived among such bigotry.
The thing that irks me? Years ago...a black man in town, decided to have a club of his own...for the blacks. The difference? He allowed white men to be members of his private club. (upstairs of his bar) The white men would leave his club, and head over to the AA for the rest of the night.
I feel like I am in a time warp. Pinch me and tell me it is 2006, and this still does not happen?
I am thinking of calling up a huge media outlet, and giving them the story of how bigotry and prejudice are alive and well in good 'Ole Massachusetts.
