I've found this board so informative! DH & I are considering a purchase and I've learned so much about the resorts that I hadn't considered. (proximity to parks, quality of restaurants, room features, etc)

What do you like best about your home resort? Don't feel limited to one thing! :)

OKW has been our home resort since 1993. I like that it's a condo-like situation rather than a hotel w/ long hallways. I like the size of the units. I like being able to park outside my door. I like that it's removed from the parks. And, I like the spread-out nature of the resort.

We love BLT and bought because it was built. We always loved and stayed at the CR for most of our WDW trips so this is just an extension of that.

The best part is walking to/from the MK. Even if I just want to go over to walk around, get a drink, and head back I can! I also like that I can easily get to the Poly or GF for dining with ease...if it is raining, I have lots of food options without having to get wet!

The pool area was nice. It is a bit small, but we were there the first week of August last year and the crowds were fine and I always got a chair.

I like that I can get to both FW and WL by boat. There have been times where we did the loop just for the fun of it. Something to do on a hot afternoon. We went once without even getting off!

The arcade is great and my kids have always loved that. But, I love that the 1 bedrooms have 2 bathrooms and the 2 bedrooms have 3 bathrooms.

Parking is really convenient and since we usually have a car, this makes it nice.

I have two home resorts, so I'll list them separately.

OKW:
-LARGE accommodations and the condo/vacation home feel versus the hotel feel.
-HUGE covered porch that becomes a wonderful outdoor living space (like an extra room) for meals and chats.
-Lush landscaping that makes me know I'm in Florida.
-Community feeling that always make me feel like it's my home.
-Very friendly cast members
-Full sized appliances versus the apartment sized ones at the other DVC resorts.
-Having my own laundry ROOM instead of closet.
-HUGE master bath
-Extra storage space over other DVCs.
-Parking right outside our door.
- FOUR pools and hot tubs
-The only DVC with a sauna.
-Great bus service (some of the best)

AKV:
-Theme is wonderful and true to Africa
-Decor is amazing
-The animals...Actually, that should be number ONE on the list!
-Fantastic restaurants
-The African docents who are full of wonderful information about all things African and the animals.
-The fire pits
-The sunset Safari (Wanyama)
-Ability to book concierge
-Good bus service
-Nice water park for kids
-The "destination" aspect of the resort
-Did I mention the animals? That has to be the BEST part!!!

This was a fun assignment! Doing this helped me understand why I own TWO resorts. One (OKW) is the most comfortable accommodations, and the other is a nice destination.

VGC..LOCATION! and it's the only DVC game in town at DLR :) It's a beautiful resort and my favorite even before DVC was added on there.

We have 2 home resorts:

SSR
- like the Downtown Disney area
- very pretty resort
- love parking near room
- awesome furnishings and decor
- great pools
- pretty good food options (both Artist's Palette & Turf Club)
- good proximity to parks

AKV (have only stayed at Jambo - haven't stayed at Kidani yet)
- animals!!!
- love Jambo House as we are in the main building
- great CS (Mara)
- love the theming and decor
- fabulous pool (will be trying Kidani pool area in summer)
- great playground for kids
- awesome African guides around the resort
- great nightly parade & kids' activities, fire pit, nighttime viewing of animals

We really like both resorts, but we also like other resorts as well. We have stayed almost everywhere (will be at BLT in the summer), and find that they are all mostly great!

What a fun thread, Tiger :)

I also have 2 home resorts:

AKV
-If you take the parks out of the equation, this, to me, is the best resort bar none. It has a lot to offer and I really like the attention to detail in its decor. It truly feels like an adventure staying at this place!

BLT
-The location cannot be beat. Love walking to MK and the monorail access close by. The other neat thing is that it has perhaps the lowest annual fee of the resorts at WDW.

Two home resorts....

BLT - Location, Location, Location. Nothing beats it.

AUL - Haven't been there yet (September can't get here soon enough). But I'm going to assume that the best feature will be Location as well. Hawaii sure sounds a lot nicer than 20 degree weather here in Chicago today! :)

We own at BLT and eventhough we haven't stayed there yet, the thing that drew us to purchasing there is the location and the fact that it is on the monorail. We are seriously considering purchasing another home resort and if we do, we want to purchase into BCV because of the location (nothing beats a walk to Epcot and a boat ride to DHS), plus Stormalong bay, B&C, and Cape May Cafe Character breakfast (one of our favorite character meals). Plus we love the whole Epcot resort area, we are staying at BCV in May and cannot wait.

Hi,
My home resort is WLV. After my next trip I have stayed at them all. So far WLV is still my favorite....Must admit...can't wait to try AKV and BLT.

Why I think WLV is Awesome:)

1.Very close to main lodge, main pool and buses.

2.Boat transportation to M.K, Fort Wilderness and Contemporary.
(Sometimes I take the boat to Contemp for monorail to Epcot.....you know enjoy the journey;).....)

3.So close to M.K yet when I come "home" I feel so far from the hustle and bustle.

4. Great beautiful pool area....villas and of course main pool.

5. Bay Lake....Water Pageant....my DD calls calls it the Dragon.

6. Good restaurants...DD loves the antics at Whispering Canyon Cafe.
Artists Point....signature...very good. And I think they have a great
Counter Service....Roaring Forks.

7. Christmas Decorations at WL....IMO are simply the best. The theming of the resort really just oozes holiday spirit.

8. Great walking/run path to Fort Wilderness....a little less than 3 miles round trip.

9. Kids Club on site......although DD almost 9 is "over them":guilty: My baby's growing up:eek:

10. Walking through Main lodge(so close) and discovering all the nooks and crannies.....I was pleasantly surprised to see how nice the WLV lobby is as well. Very homey feeling. Some of Walts treasures are there on display:worship:

11. I love WLV:cloud9::love:

OKW. We always have a car, so we love the parking right outside your door. We also frequently host extended family, so the size and "affordability" of the grand villa at OKW are the best of all the resorts.

BWV - Location. Five minute walk to EPCOT, which is where we spend 90% of our time(100% during F&W). Kouzzina, Big River, ESPN, Jellyrolls, and Flying Fish on property. Short walk to Yachtsman, Bluezoo, Il Mulino, Kimono's, and Shula's. Sipping a cocktail on the Boardwalk at the end of a magical day.

It's a tie between having Sanaa in the building and looking out my window at zebra and giraffe!

AKV
We Love the getting away from it all feeling.
It is much more relaxing to us than staying at a resort near the park.
It is all inclusive. You could have a vacation there and never have to leave.
Three different restaurants... two great pools... a ton of activities... animals...
We just love it there!

SSR Favorites:
Close to DTD
Spa
Turf Club
THV 3 bedroom for the $ of a 2 bedroom
Condo style & can park near my room

BLT Favorites:
Walk to MK
Monorail

BLT is our home.
Walk to MK
Monorail
Lake with a beach, boat activity, decent speed for the mini-boat rentals, parasailing, pirates and princess cruise, etc.
Depending on room location can watch fireworks from the room
Easy access to WL, CR, Poly, GF restaurants
Short walk to MK bus area to catch a bus to the other hotels for dining
TOTWL (although, I expect this to eventually be used for private parties, but we really enjoy it)
