We have an AKV contract w/ February UY. We realize that at times we will want/need more points so we are looking for a small (under 50 pt) add on. I see smaller AKV contracts come up but w/ a different UY. I understand that if it is a different UY it is treated as a different membership thus i would have to do transfers in/out (only once per year) order to book together. I feel this would complicate our booking process and keeping track of our points/expiration/banking etc.

I am wondering if i should open up my options and look for a feb UY at any WDW resort. Are there any significant draw backs besides having to wait to 7 months to use the points together at other resorts. I also see the benefit would be to be able to book a couple nights at one home resort and the remainder of our trip at our other home resort at 11 months.

Would i have an easier time w/ booking a 7 months reservation if i had the same UY but different resorts than if i had the same resort but different UY?

I kind of don't want to complicate things with different UY. We will most likely be booking during Feb, April or June due to kids being in school for at least the next 10 years or so.

Any thoughts or input would be appreciated!!!

I would stick to the same resort. Unless you are happy to do a spilt stay in case AK does not come up at 7 months. You would still need to book your other resort at 11 months just in case.

Have a considered buying direct from Disney and getting the same UY? You can wait list for it we have done this.

Yes at 7 months points from the same use year can be combined seamlessly regardless of the home resort (but diff use years require a point transfer to do so as you stated)

For a small contract you might be better just buying direct. Not that much different in price, but no restrictions at all. Easier to complete and assured UY you need and can combine.

I have thought of this but i have a hard time justifying paying 40% more ($160 per point for some resorts) when i could get more points via resale. I have to research our options and what it is going to cost.

Although just a quick look at some smaller contracts OKW 50 pts is $90-95 per point and w/ closing costs would bring it up to just over $100 per point ( I am thinking this is for a 2042 contract) Direct is $140 pp (2057 contract) with no hassles. Essentially $1800 to go direct with minimal waiting - I just don't know if it is worth it.

Yes SSR was less which was good also they gave us last years points which was another vacation for us to factor in the price. Plus not waiting and the ease of the process. I prefer direct when we can but you are right it does depend on resort.

We have a large Dec UY AKV contract and a small Aug UY contract. We have had the small contract for about 5 years. We tend to stay at AKV fairly regularly, but often stay elsewhere. I almost never use the Aug contract alone, since it is small, other than perhaps for a 1-2 night stay before a cruise. We have to follow the school calendar, as well, so we generally do one large trip per year. If I want to stay at a resort other than AKV, I simply use the large contract to book 7 days at the 7 month mark and then call MS a few days later to transfer the Aug points into the Dec contract and then book the rest of the trip. If there will be leftover points that could be banked, I simply make sure that all of the Aug points are used for the pending trip and any unused points are in the Dec UY for banking purposes. It does require keeping track of when you plan to travel and when the points can be used. If I had the chance to do it over again, I would have stayed in my December UY, but since it is a small contract, it has not been that bad. When we are ready to downsize, it will be the first to go.

What resorts and type of rooms do you typically book? Getting a standard or savanna room at AKV at 7 months is pretty easy. Unless you need more points to book club or value rooms, I'd say any points should work for you.

I would stick with the same UY, different resort if you like/need to. But how long have you been looking? It may be worth being patient and watching all of the brokers' listings for a few months.

I agree for 50 or less depending on UY esp. Another option is considering less or more than 50 resale giving more opportunities. Even if one has to do a rental every 4-5 year or take a bigger trip, it still might be a better value.
