Tell me the problems (if any) you have had buying resale and would you buy direct or resale for initial purchase?

I rented for a long time and was back and forth on resale vs direct. What sold me going direct first was the current incentives along with a referral discount and Disney hotel discount brought the price per point for riviera down to what I’d buy Poly for on resale (my second choice). Also i wanted a blue card and I don’t want to be stuck with resale restrictions. Process of buying direct with Disney was super easy, which was a perk.

I thought I had it all figured out a few months ago- buy 150 points direct at AKV!! But no, I started looking more into DVC and the husband was like "I don't know about all of that." So here I am every week with questions when I really just need to make a decision and go with it!

Those of you that have bought resale, have you had any issues with the actual purchase? I read a few posts (not necessarily on this site) about people not getting the points that they thought they purchased. For example, points that were supposed to be banked had already been used. How likely is this to happen and what advice to prevent getting screwed over?

For initial purchase, do you all recommend buying direct or resale and why? We would like to purchase 150 points now and more points down the road. We are in our 40s but I am able to retire in 6-7 years due to working in a government job. Our youngest child would only be 9 then so we/I would be taking the kids to Disney even more!

And if I can throw in one more question just to see opinions would you all buy AKV direct (not much of a difference from resale with their current promotion) or buy BRV resale?

Buy where you want to stay, resale first so Disney will match your UY later
Buy more points than you think you need if you can responsibly afford it. Very likely you will end up using them and be grateful you got them at a lower price instead of adding on in a year or two. With young children you may end up enjoying a 1 or 2 bedroom more than you think initially.
If you want to leave the points to your kiddos buy Riviera for your direct points, longest contract with direct benefits at future resorts.

My biggest issue is that I cannot book a room on borrowed points without calling MS. Website “glitch” for resale is so annoying. Starting to think it’s a feature, not a bug. Grr.
Otherwise happy with resale.

I've borrowed from resale just a couple of weeks ago. A few have reported difficulty borrowing on direct contracts but no where the number that have the problem with resale. It really is something they should fix.
