Tell me I'll LOVE the BWI concierge!

Hi everyone,
We were supposed to be staying at the Poly, GV concierge in 3 weeks. Got the call today from my TA regarding the overbooking of rooms. Long story short, they switched me to the BWI concierge for my entire stay (10/31- 11/8). At first I freaked and then I remembered I'm going to DISNEY! How lucky am I So, now I need you all to tell me all the wonderful things about this resort and their concierge service. PLEASE tell me we'll be happy here. How does it compare to the Poly? Any words of encouragment would be great! Thanks in advance for all your comments!

I believe the cost is the same for both of these resorts so it's not like they are doing you any favours.

I could understand being thrilled if switching from a regular room to concierge at BWI.. but I don't get why you are happy about this change... I would be totally %&*$(#

If you had wanted to book BWI concierge you would have, right?

Did they say you had to do this or were they just asking if you would?

I really don't understand this overbooking situation on the concierge guests, you think they would be more careful with contolling that... I understand overbooking the hotel in general ~ but not the concierge rooms.

Having said all that, BWI is a very nice resort and really close to EPCOT and MGM. The pool is cool, with the clown slide ~ but I read something about it being refurbished, you might want to check as they are allowing guests to swim at stormalong bay.

From what I have heard about concierge it is very good... I believe ducklite has a report at http://www.wdwig.com

Actually, I'm incredibly . They called me because they overbooked the poly by 150 people. I was basically told that I could keep my ressie but there was no guarantee I'd have a room when I got down there. Then they'd have to walk me to another resort. I figured I didn't want to spend the next three weeks stressing over whether I'd have a place to stay or not. And then I'd have to try and reschedule all my PS while I was there. Not a nice way to start my vacation! I tried to get them to upgrade me to the GF or one of the other MK resorts but they said no. SO, I'm trying to make the most of a really lousy situation. My kids are already upset enough so you know, Mom's gotta be the one to make it better We all love Epcot and we will be there for the Food & Wine Festival. But I've got an 8 year old who LIVES for the Magic Kingdom and the monorail. Course he's also a golf freak so he's kind of happy the mini-golf is nearby. Oh well!
Somebody at Disney really screwed this one up big time.

Thanks for the heads up on the pool. If anyone has info on it I'd appreciate it.
Keep the replies coming guys! I need all the encouragment I can get!

I cannot compare the Poly to the BWI for you as we have never stayed Poly. Although, we did stay BWI concierge in January and the staff there is fabulous. We had no complaints and you have a perfect view of the Epcot fireworks every evening from the Concierge lounge. As a family our favorite park is Epcot, my DD 10 and DS 7 are getting older and enjoy WS. You can not beat the ability to walk to Epcot. Even though we were there in January and there was not much boardwalk activity it was enjoyable with the ESPN zone in the evening as a great activity before turning in for the evening. I have read about the pool refurbishment but I have also read on these boards that they are permitting people to us Stormalong Bay someone may have to confirm this as I am not sure of specifics. In spite of your change this is still a great resort. Have Fun, as you stated, you are still going to Disney.

The BWI concierge staff is great and we always have a great time there. If you do a search under my post you can see my last review and several threads about BWI concierge. Don't forget you can make room requests with advance planning. Garden view may get you a view of fireworks and water view may get you a BW view.

I would have been upset that they couldn't provide room at another monorail resort this late in the game.

I see from your sig. that you have stayed at the Poly.(we have been over the 4th of July the last 3 yrs.) in concierge before so you know what the food offerings are like there. BWI is a little different in that area. They have nice finger sandwiches out at tea time, and only one hot item during the wine and cheese offering. I would definately suggest having some dinner plans.

If you will be there during the pool rehab they will have a boat at the friendship dock to take BWI guests over to SAB.

Don't forget to check out Community Hall, they have air hockey, crafts, bike rentals(not the surrey bikes), and video games.

Just get yourself geared up for what the BW has to offer and you will be fine.~*~* *~*~ just a little extra pixie dust for a wonderful stay!!

According to the letter I just received from the BoardWalk cast, the Luna Park pool refurbishment will be completed by October 29, so it should be done by the time you arrive. If not, only the slide is out of action, and there will be transportation over to SAB "should you wish to have a slide as part of your pool experience".

We have stayed at both and enjoyed both - if you check out my sig you will see that we are returning to both soon!

With that....the concierge lounges are very different. I know there has been a lot of discussion on these boards on what concierge is and what it is not so I don't want to go there. But since you have stayed Polynesian concierge level you WILL notice a difference. The food offerings at the BWI is not the same as at the Polynesian - no pineapple bread for one. The room is smaller and more "formal" - I don't mean that in a bad way, but we were there in June and our kids were 4 & 8. We would go in, get something quick and leave - we did not linger. My kids aren't always the best behaved (yes, I admit that!) so I wanted them out quickly. I don't feel that the lounge is made for FAMILIES to stay long in - just my opinion. The Polynesian lounge is much more family friendly - again, just my opinion. This is not to upset you and not to make you think families AREN'T welcome, just that for us at this time it is not.

But with all that said, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the lounge itself would not stop us from staying there again. We loved being right there on the boardwalk. We had a view of the gardens and the back of France - we could see the fireworks. The pool is GREAT for kids! They loved the slide and we liked that it was small enough so we could see them most of the time. (SAB at the YC/BC is great but very large and easy to lose kids)

Thanks everyone! You guys have definetly helped me feel better about this! We're really going to try and make the best of it. I had my TA check on the pool and she said Yup, it's supposed to be open on 10/29, so hopefully we'll be all set there.

My kids also can get a bit out of hand! And they're much older then yours, 13, 13 & 8! I hope they wont feel too out of place in the lounge. They usually enjoy hanging out down there!

I think the "no Monorail" is what upset my kids the most. Since my twins are 13 this year, I was going to let them do the MK by themselves. I might still let them do Epcot but they said it won't be the same without the monorail! My 8 year old is bummed he won't be able to sit on the beach and watch the fireworks! My TA said i have to take a "variable view" which means god knows what! I think I at least deserve a nice view LOL!

I have stayed at both the Poly and BWI. Having the walkway/boat to MGM and Epcot is so nice. We actually took the walkways most times. What I found really nice was the ease of getting over to Epcot World Showcase. Often we miss illuminations. We are usually to tired by the end of the day to stay and watch it. But being so close it made it easier. After coming back from one park and stopping in our room for a short rest we were able to head over to the World Showcase and catch the show. Since you like the Food and Wine Fest I'd imagine the ease of getting to the World Showcase will be a plus for you. Also the boardwalk is so nice. It was a lot of fun ridding the sury bike around the lagoon. (Although up hill is a killer on the legs ) If I had to find one think I liked at the Poly better I'd say it was having Capt Cooks. There is not really a counter service place at the BWI. Spoodles does have a walk up pizza window. They sell a few other things from the walk up window (I suggest the meatball sub!! Very yummy) and there is a cart on the Boardwalk that sells hot dogs and chicken fingers and a few other things. But then again BWI has the bakery on the Boardwalk!

I think they are both great resorts and im sure you will enjoy the BWI very much.

Yes, your view will be listed as variable but you can at least make a request with advance planning. My confirmation says variable as well but all deluxe concierge rooms have a water view.
