Okay the short story is DS wanted DVC for graduation. I heard Fall was the best incentive time so I took all his grad money and put it in 3 month CD and can't touch it until Aug 20th. Now I am hearing rumors that prices are going up soon. Please tell me I didn't mess up. How much of a cost increase is there usually?

OK, you did'nt mess up. :lmao:

Seriously though incentives, developers points, gift cards etc. come and go all the time. Given the economy even if current discounts go away I'm sure new discounts will emerge. When you can get your money out of the bank worry about it then.

If sales are slow, incentives increase. If sales pick up, incentives decrease. Prices go up once or twice per year, usually $2 or $3 dollars per point. Contemporary may be the exception, a starting price of $110-$115 per point has been discussed.

Thanks. I feel better. I just thought I would wait and now with the 100 point buy in I felt I may have locked my DS out of a good option. I just have to remember that as long as he gets DVC at AKV he will be happy.

Talk to a guide and let them know what you're thinking. They can often hold prices and incentives for a time if you're already working with them. Worst case scenario is you put down a deposit and put off closing until the money is available. It's unlikely the new resort will have the 100 points option but you never know since this is new territory for DVC. I think the CRV option will have an even better long term value than AKV.

If you have a Disney credit card they can put your 10% down payment on it for 6 months at no interest. So, I think you could conceivably buy it now and pay it off when the money becomes available. We just bought last week, and I ran the whole transaction through my credit card in order to get the Disney dollars. My guide charged the card with two transactions: 1 for the 10% down (at no interest for 6 months) and a 2nd for the remainder.

Minimum purchase is 160 points.
