Tell me I’m doing this right, adding a night @ 7 months

Just want to run this by everyone to make sure I’m thinking clearly!

I have a reservation made at 11 months. I am planning on adding a night at 7 months but don’t want to use the home resort points I have left for that. I booked a dummy reservation using up all those points. Now when I add that night, will it let me modify and keep my home resort marked as 1st and another of my contracts as 2nd? I am not sure I can modify an 11 month reservation at 7 months even if I’m keeping the points as originally used. If not I guess I have to make a separate reservation for that extra night and have MS merge. If this all works as I hope, then I can cancel the dummy reservation and bank those points to ‘27.

You can modify to add the night but the home resort contract remains locked so it has to be used first.

Since there are no more points in that contract, you can check the second one and it will pull from there.

Curious if all the home resort weren’t used if it will still allow you to select non home resort points for that point difference.

That would require involvement of MS as that contract is locked and must be used first.

Or, as the OP did, make a reservation with the points first

Hmm so it will let you modify at 7 months, and if there are no remaining points in the original contract used for home resort priority it will let you pull from other resorts/contracts to add an extra day???

I thought you had to make a second reservation because that would be fully locked into only using home resort points since it was made with home resort priority and includes some of the same dates booked with home resort priority?

The contract remains locked and must be used first, which means the pound used to make the original nights have to still be used.

But, at 7 months, you can add additonal nights using modify and checking the other contract.

You can’t swap points into a home resort booking for nights that are still there. But adding is different.

To swap, you need to book separately nights at the start or end, and then adjust.

That is what I do,,I go on at 7 months and use non resort points to replace nights at the start, if still available, and then modify my home resort booking.

Interesting. I can't decide if I feel like that is cheating the system somehow and possibly jumping ahead of others trying to book at 7 months or not 🤔

Does it let you add on like this at 7 months +7 days or only if the day added is the one day right at 7 months? Ex. If I had a reservation for my home resort for 6 nights starting 12/13/26 (Reservation for 7 months +6 days from today) could I add the last 7 month bookable day on right now using non-home resort points?

Ooohhhh I never thought of it from that side. I wouldn’t think that would work, wouldn’t the system lock you out of using those points on the end?

FWIW the night I’m adding is on the front end, no schenanigans here 😉

That's what I'm wondering. That night would 100% be bookable by someone else booking at 7 months+7 IF all the other days are available

But it may already be sold out to home resort members somewhere on one or more of the +7 days that blocks them from getting the last day(s) of the +7.

But a home resort reservation wouldn't be blocked by a missing day or two and may actually allow first shot at the days further into the 7 month +7 day max booking window. (IF it allows you to add days onto home resort reservations at 7 months+7 and not just right at 7 Months)

Basically owning enough home resort points for at least a few days reservation at home resort timing could get you a better shot at 7 month extension

Actually if you have a reservation coming up to the 7 month window you could probably check and see by trying to modify and add on the back end of the 7+7. Before your front-end date comes up

Wait 🙀 I think it does work like that.

I just happen to have a reservation that ends on 12/13/26 at a home resort. For someone booking 7 months out today 12/13 should be bookable, and 12/14 only if you book 12/13

I just tried to add on 12/14 that was available and it has the first 2 contracts locked but does let me choose from my other contracts to use, when that day is not bookable for anyone else only using 7 month points today (nothing shows when I search for just 12/13/26 today)

Well good for those of us that have multiple home resorts I guess 😅

Yes, it lets you add from the start of the reservation but you are still capped at 7 days total.

And, with the lock, it requires that home resort points are still used.

So, while it might give someone a slight advantage for a few extra days, at most, it’s not really that much of an advantage because it only works if there are still rooms.

So, there is a risk of waiting if you had home resort points to use in the first place.

Update:
I tried to modify my reservation today to add that extra night. Original reservation started 1/4, I was trying to add 1/3. It didn’t give me the option to use my other contract to add the other night, only borrow from my home resort contract. So I cancelled the original and tried again…..same thing. What the heck? I ended up rebooking the original reservation and added the extra night as a separate reservation so I’ll have to have them merge the two. So weird!

ETA: Figured it out! It’s because that turns it into an 8 night stay. If I shorten it to 7 it shows all my contracts! I’ll try to adjust it tomorrow so MS doesn’t have to.

You can't book 8 nights starting January 3. You can only book 7 nights starting January 3 with 7-month points.

With 11-month points, you can book January 3 to as long as you want.
