Tell me how a point transfer works...

I have contacted a fellow DIS'er about their offer to transfer their left over points. Before I get too far ahead of myself I thought I would reach out to the experts to see if the there are any rules or regulations that I need to know about before I complete this transaction.

Based on the post I responded to the points expire at the end of July. Our trip is in June. The transfer is for less than 10 points.

1. Will the person who is transfering thier points simply call MS and request to transfer their points to my account?
2. Do I need to be on the call to complete the transfer into my account?
3. What information do I need to provide to the person that is transfering the points to me? DVC Contract #? or Member #?

I just did a transfer to someone and I had their name and member number thats all.
You need to know if the points have been banked or borrowed before you pay for them. Because if they have then they cannot be transferred.
They will call MS and take care of everything then you can call back and see if the points are there.

Don't forget that Members can't receive compensation for the transfer. Mention money to MS and they might not do the transfer.

I just completed my first transfer and it was pretty simple. The person with the points can call MS and simply execute the transfer if you give them your member #. In my case I paid for the points up front via paypal. Once the seller got the funds we arranged a time to call MS together and complete the transfer. It took a few minutes and was done. I made my ressie later that day with the transferred points.

It's a little scary paying a total stranger upfront so others have done 50% upfront and 50% after the transaction. It really all depends. But this site has a great reputation and the people seem to take it quite seriously which is nice. My experience was great. I hope they are all this way.
