Tell me again about the off-site hotels

I am currently booked for the GC in the beginning of July. I love staying on-site in the heart of the magic, but I am beginning to rethink the cost. I think I need to explore off-site again. The last time I did, I was very interested in HoJo because of the pool, but then found out the pool would be under renovations, so decided against it.

I am a bit picky about having a nice and CLEAN room and will pay a bit more for that. Also, we like to take the afternoons off to relax and swim with DC ages 4 and 6, so a nice kid friendly pool is a big plus. Also, it needs to be walking distance.

So fire away and give me your recommendations that would work for us and why? Would you still consider the HoJo even though the big pool wouldn't be available?

Thanks in advance,
Michele

Well they say the main pool is supposed to open back up in July. I'm not sure on the date though for that. If it is, no doubt they'll have the best and most kid friendly offsite pool in the area!

Oh, I agree. And if the pool were definitely going to be open, then I would stay there hands down. However, if the pool is still being renovated, I think the kids would be a bit disappointed. We only take one Disney vacation a year now, so I want to make the most of it.

I don't blame you! It will be closed down when we'll be staying there in June. They will have the garden pool open, so we'll take advantage of that. But we booked an extra night at the end of our trip at the DLH, just so we can have a day to hang out at the pool. It's important to us too! We got a Disney View room at Hojo's for a great price, so we're still planning on enjoying staying there. Adding that extra night at the DLH makes up for not having the main pool though!

It's hard to say for sure if it will be open when you go. That's what they said last I believe. That it will be closed up until the end of June. Maybe call and see what they say?

We always stay at the Residence Inn a few blocks down from Disney. The rates are pretty good there at the right times. I love staying there because of the in room kitchen, kids suites, and the breakfast bar. They also have a free snack in the evening. They have a nice pool there and walking to Buca di Beppo and Red Robin.

Does the RI participate in ART or do they have their own shuttle?

Whatever you do....don't stay at Parkside Inn Suites Maingate on West St.

OMG! I laugh about it now...but when we stayed there 10 or 12 years ago it was the nightmare of all nightmares! And from what I hear, it's not's much better.

I'll go into details if someone asks but "trust" me...it was bad.

We also have stayed at RI numerous times and really can not find another place to stay that accomodates our family the way they do with the ammenities they have. They have an ART stop on the side but most of the time we just walk.
