I want a real one! How often do you use it? Do you recommend your brand? ANy tips?

If you're going to use it regularly, this is one appliance where I definitely think it is worth it to get a good one. We've been through many cheaper versions and finally bought the one they sell at Williams Sonoma--it heats perfectly and evenly everytime, non-stick surface is durable and easy to clean, and has lasted several years already.

Think hard beforehand about whether you want the belgian waffle style or the regular (thinner) kind.

We use ours at least once per week, and have a Proctor-Silex/Hamilton Beach that was part of a JCPenney sale where you bought one small appliance, get the second for $0.88. It has lasted 6 years with heavy use/abuse, and the waffles still don't stick and cook perfectly.

I'm a waffle-nut, though, so I do want to get a really good belgian waffle maker, at some point.

I think I've been really lucky. If you can afford a higher priced one, chances are it will be better.

ETA: Thought ours was a Magic Chef, but it's actually a Proctor-Silex/Hamilton Beach.

I have a Krups waffle iron and it works like a champ. The big thing for me is just knowing when to open the lid!

We have a Waring Pro, got it from QVC for around $80 or so. It's wonderful. It beeps when the waffles are done, so no guessing. You pour the batter in and then flip it over to cook and it's two sided, so it cooks two at once. It's a Belgian waffle maker, so it makes the thicker waffles.

I also own a WaringPro...there are different versions of it, but go for the one that is a little more expensive. I think there is one that sells for about $49, but heard it doesn't work as well.

I LOVE this thing! It makes awesome waffles, is so easy to clean and easy to use! I think Sam's carries them also.

Sits on the garage shelf of lost appliances along with the fajita maker,

I agree with a pp that you need to spend a few bucks and get a decent one. Dh is a waffle fanatic. When we needed a new waffle iron, I tried a few less expensive ones, and they were all garbage. We ended up with a Calphalon that works beautifully and was worth the money. We did not want a Belgian iron and we wanted on that makes at least four waffles at once.

I do like it but honestly, only use it once or twice a year. Good thing I only paid 5 Euros for it:)
