Tell me about your experience with Heart Palpatations...

Well after a few episodes where my heart was racing like a crazy horse, the doctor thinks i may have Paroxysmal Atrial Tachycardia (PAT) aka paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia. It is a condition where my heart starts to suddenly beat super super fast. It is not very serious, more annoying than dangerous.

I thought i was going crazy when this started, i thought my anxiety was going thru the roof. I am not sure if I feel better that i actually have something physically causing these symptoms versus my anxiety sending my heart going crazy.

I'm only 33 years old (it is a young person's condition) but having heart issues has really shocked me. Anyone else have some heart issues? How did you deal with diagnosis and getting back to your life.

I am scheduled to have an ultrasound and a heart monitor thing but she is pretty sure this is what it is, all the classic symptoms.

My father had that! I don't believe he was ever treated for it though so even back in the 1960's I guess they didn't feel it was a life threatening problem. When he was in his 60's he did have a pacemaker implanted but I don't think the PAT was the reason.

I was pretty young when this happened so him so my memory's not great about how it made him feel. I do remember him saying it was very scary though. One time his pulse was nearly 200 beats per minute!

Yep, I have it... It put me in the ER once because I couldn't get it to stop beating fast. I thought I was having a heart attack. Since then, on the recommendation of my doctor, I have cut out all caffeine and it has made a dramatic difference. Every now and then it will beat quickly or I will have a short series of palpitations but I use the techniques that the doctors told me about and I can control them. Trust me though, cut out the caffeine....all of it....

I have cut out almost all caffine since the first incident, i do believe it has made a difference but now i will cut out all of it.

It is just so scary to have a heart issue, you just never know.

My brother is in the hospital as I type. He was going in for a colonoscopy (he has been sick since Dec.). His heart was doing just that, so they admitted him to the hospital. After running tests etc.. etc.. the have discovered that he has an over-active thyroid. Hopefully that was the cause of his heart racing. Might be worth asking them to check your thyroid.

I have Mitral Valve Prolapse with regurgitation, and also tachycardia. I was a teenager when it started. My anxiety also went through the roof about it, I always thought I was having a heart attack and was always in the ER. Finally my cardiologist put me on a beta-blocker (atenolol), and it controls the tachycardia. I went off of it the first trimester of my pregnancy, and ended up back on it for the 2nd and 3rd trimesters, the palpitations were so bad. this is the only way I have found it to be controlled.
