Tell me about VWL !!

We just made our first reservation to stay at VWL ! It's just the four of us (usually travel as part of a larger group), so we are hoping for a relaxing time enjoying the resort. I see the VWL groupies thread and am starting to read all the good information there. I have a few questions...

What types of requests are good to put on the reservation? Water View?

What types of activities etc are there (we have two young teenagers) that are unique to that area?

VWL and the Wilderness Lodge are wonderful - my favorite resorts. Staying on Bay Lake, I imagine it would be fun for your teenagers to try out the water mice (not sure of age requirement for driving them by yourself, though).

Can't help you with view request. Over the years I've had really great views and loved them and had really lousy views and had just as much fun so I never make 'em.

My sons (13 &16) actually love to just troll the WL. When we take a break, they will usually head down to the lobby and just wander around looking at different things. They do hit the arcade for a little bit but generally don't want to blow all their money in one spot.

Upon check in, I would definitely ask about being "Flag family" some time during your stay.

thanks for the information....maybe we will leave ourselves at the mercy of the 'room assignor fairy' ! Maybe I'll just ask for an upper floor so that we have a balcony vs a patio.

Glad to hear you suggest asking about the flag family. How early in the morning do you have to get up for this? That will definitely ensure that we have a full day to enjoy the resort ! Our kids are just one year younger than yours (12 and 15). They love DVC and seem to occupy themselves well but i always like to check ahead what might be fun.

How is it going over to Fort Wilderness...we haven't been there either...

If you are booking a studio, be aware that there is a 4th floor studio that does not have a balcony.

I got it once and it doesn't bother me. But you mentioned wanting a balcony.

See...now that's why I read these boards ! A studio without a balcony...hmmm. I guess I would be ok with it, if there was no choice, but I do like to have my morning coffee out there while everyone else is trying to get ready....and fighting over the bathroom....etc etc
