We were thinking of doing a side trip over to WL and then on to FW for the campfire sing along. Is the buffet any good? Or would Whispering Canyon's be a better bet. It'll be 4 of us plus a 2 year old.

I've made ADR's for both. People said that the friend chicken was awesome and I'm a fan of sweet tea and it's the ONLY place at WDW that has sweet tea. (Sweet tea is impossible to find in Southern California). We're on the DDP, but I've heard that it's one of the least expensive buffets there is!

The buffet is one of the few places that you can actually find fried chicken at WDW. We have had breakfast and dinner there and the food is good. Not great but it is also one of the least expensive buffets at WDW. No real unusual or unique food, just basic items.

It just depends on the type of dining experience that you are looking for. Trail's End is simple, basic, good food in a relaxing atmosphere. It's very rustic (kind of reminded us of a Cracker Barrel). Depending on what time you're there, you may here all the commotion from the HDR next door. The Whispering Canyon, on the other hand, is a different dining experience. There are lots of shenanigans that go on during your meal and pony races for the little ones. The food here is simple but good also. We've done both but probably would not go out of our way to eat at Trail's End again unless we were staying at WL.

My 3 kids (11, 8 and 5) and I just did a night at Fort Wilderness on Saturday 2/23. We arrived at the Trail's End a bit early so the kids played on a nearby playground until it opened. We did not have an ADR. We went to the podium as soon as someone came out and were the second party seated. I thought the food was great and the kids even ate very well. We all started with salads and delicious cornbread. They also had shrimp, soup and chili. For the main course we were able to choose from corn, green beans, peas, mashed potatoes, macaroni & cheese, fried chicken, ribs, sausage & peppers, a fish dish, pasta & sauce, pizza and freshly carved beef. The food was delicious! For dessert there were chocolate chip cookies, brownies, rice krispie treats and a soft serve ice cream machine. Coke products, milk, chocolate milk and sweetened or unsweetened teas were included as drinks. We were not on the dining plan so paid OOP. I would definitely return and would like to take my husband here. After dinner we explored a little and played some nore before heading to the campfire area. We roasted marshmellows and made smores, sang songs and watched the first movie. I would also do the campfire again. It was a great night. We have eaten at Whispering Canyon a few times too and really enjoyed that also but I don't think you'd regret eating at Trail's End before doing the campfire. =)
