My wife and I love Kona and we're going back in a few months. I normally get the steak but I want to try something differerent this time. I keep hearing about the tuna oscar and I want to try it....but...I'm not a huge seafood fan. I like seafood every once in a while...but it's not a favorite of mine. I want to get some feedback from people who've had this dish at Kona. Is it cooked rare? (I don't like rare meat). Any suggestions?

I just had the Tuna Oscar on monday it was excellent. Honestly, all tuna is cooked rare, and this is no different. Char-grilled on the outside with some cajun type seasoning, and very rare on the inside. Give it a try, it's not fishy at all.

OOOH, my husband had it before. I tried it and thought it was delicious!

I love the Tuna Oscar @ Kona. The tuna is seared, so yes it very rare. That is the way "sushi" grade tuna should be prepared. It taste more like a very tender piece of beef instead of fish. If you will be put off by the appearance of the rare meat don't order this dish. But, if you can step out of your comfort zone and try it you might have a new favorite dish. The combination of all of the ingredients is wonderful. It is also a great value, I was amazed at the amount of tuna that was served.

Honestly, tuna steak is my favorite food (unless it's tuna sushi) and I think Kona's is just okay. I liked it, there's a review in my Sept. dining report, but it doesn't even come close to, say, Jiko.

Fresh tuna is one of my favorite foods, and the dish at Kona Cafe is quite good. Judging by your original post, though, I'm not sure it's the best option for you. If you don't typically like seafood and don't enjoy rare meat, you probably won't like the tuna Oscar.

There are so many wonderful options at Kona. No reason to try one you won't love.

We love it! I always request that the tuna be cooked med. rare and they always accommodate us. the sauce that is on it is so good, and the green tomatoes are perfect. I love fish--but not fishy fish--and tuna isn't fishy at all--more like tender beef.
