Tell me about the Royal Family 5k

I'm nervous because my pace isn't very consistent, but I'm averaging ok. The absolute slowest I've caught my walking pace was 22 mpm but just for a second before I pick it back up. During those slower times, could I be swept, or is that only if the last group is around me? I've heard it's based on when the last person crosses the start, but it says they mark the miles as well.

The 16 min/ mile pace you have to maintain starts when the last person crosses the start line. That's why there are some people that have finish times around 4 hours. They were in earlier corrals and therefore had more leeway with their pace.

I'm not very consistent with pace. I mainly have a fartlek method I suppose. Someone offered me their position (something came up) in Corral B. What should I do???

Not going to lie, this irks me. Many of us have worked our butts off training for this half. Many of those people are in G and H and also terrified of sweepers. Yet, you are going to take someone else's bib and use someone else's number (which is not allowed according to race rules) based on a race someone else ran to start in a corral you didn't earn? I don't see that as okay, although others may disagree. I am sure there will be walkers in B, but these are people who earned their spot and then got injured, which is a different situation.

Anyone else back yet? We had such a good time doing the 5K! Even with a few minuses, it far exceeded my expectations. :woohoo: At risk of seeming like a shameless plug (it's not - I just don't want to write it all over again, lol!), I posted a full recap of our race in my blog - link in my signature.

About corrals and pace... the 5K system was frustrating. Half of us couldn't even get into the start corral, let alone in the proper pace section. And once we got going, there was an awful lot of slow-walking groups taking up the width of the course. Anyone faster was forced to weave in and out and go off-course to get around. Worse, though, were the strollers that didn't follow the directions to walk, not run, and were also weaving in and out of the crowd, yelling, "Look out, stroller coming through!" Dangerous stuff.

Otherwise, it was incredibly well done and a very fun time. How 'bout you all - did everyone have a good weekend?
